84th Scintillian "Scythes"

So I've finally started putting together some veterans as a small allied force(which may grow larger later on msn-wink.gif ) for my Templars. I wanted them to be different from your standard looking guard and I liked the armor bitz from the Tempestus guys, but I really don't like those chest pieces. So I decided to do some converting and use the cadian chest pieces instead. This definitely was more work than I anticipated as the cadian kit and the Tempestus kit have virtually nothing in common laugh.png

But I think I've got down what I need to do to make it all fit. Originally I was intending on using more cadian pieces but after looking at the bitz I really think I'm only going to use the chest and everything else will be Tempestus.

Here are the first two guys

I haven't decided on using the backpacks 100% yet and I'm definitely going almost pure beret heads as there are only a couple of helmet heads that I like.

I wasn't going to make a Company Commander but I really liked the bitz for the leader guys in the Tempestus box and so picked up a pair of Cadian command legs and made a Commander out of the extra stuff from the Tempestus box.

I also promised you fluff in the title of the thread and while I don't have much written yet, I think I know the direction I want to go. I wanted to have a primarily Veteran force assisted by armor. My Templars operate in the Jericho Reach and so I've been looking through AM forces that are present there. There's a sidebar in one of the FFG Deathwatch books(The Achillus Assault) on a regiment called the Scintillan 84th Grenadiers that I really liked. Their description and commander Colonel Titus Rone is basically exactly what I was envisioning for my AM. So I think I'm going to run with that and expand on the fluff there. I think having a nickname for the regiment would be cool and I came up with the Scintillan Scythes. I think it fits pretty good because I intend to run my veterans with a lot of plasma for them to "scythe" down enemy troops laugh.png

So that's what I've got so far, C&C is appreciated!

We've had a Cadian torso conversion army before and it works very well - once you've got the kits to work together that is! :P Your fluff sounds like a good start to me too, but that can easily be done/changed later. Do they have an established colour scheme already or will you be making your own?

I concur getting the scion and Cadian parts to marry together is a bit of a headache but very effective once completed. Look forward to seeing what colour scheme these guys will have.

Looking good Acebaur,

Scintillan Scythes sounds like a good metal band - a solid pre-requisite of any vet force - looking forward to seeing these guys painted :)

Thanks guys, glad you like them.  I'll have more ready soon including a plasma guy or two.

You can see some of the potential ones I've thought of back in this thread from last year http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/297527-paint-scheme-help-for-my-regiment/

They look good with the Cadian chests. How much work was it to get them to fit with the TS parts?

Quite a bit more than I thought actually. Every piece needed trimming of some kind.

Legs - The Temp legs are like SM ones, rounded at the top so I had to cut off a chunk of that because the Cadian torsos are flat on the bottom

Arms - The Temp torsos have slots for the arms so the actual arm pieces have too much separation between the shoulder and the chest. These have to be trimmed down as well.  I cut too much off on these first two guys and so had to fiddle with it a bit and use some greenstuff to fill gaps.

Heads - The cadian head slots are very shallow and flat and the Temp heads are again like SM's. So here I did a bit of drilling on the head slot and cut the head to fit in the slot better.

All in all though none of it was particularly difficult, just takes a bit of fiddling to get it all right.  Thankfully I'm only doing 20-25 of these guys so it won't be too bad ;)

So as you can see I've changed the title as I've settled on the 84th Scintilian Scythes as the name of my regiment. I really like the stuff I read about them in the DW book so I'm going to roll with it and expand on it. More on that soon

First here are two plasma guys. The one one of the left is straight out of the box, but the one on the right is a conversion using a SM plasma and an arm. It still needs some work to make it fit perfect. You'll notice he also has a helmet head. I put that one on ages ago when I first got the box but I think what I'm going to do is use the helmet/mask face guys on just the plasma guys to protect them from when it gets hot tongue.png Who know's maybe it will help me make my armor saves laugh.png

Also I realized that the melta gun arm is exactly the same as one of the lasgun arms so I thought I would try to maximize my options to keep the amount of expensive bitz I have to buy to a minimum, so I magnetized him.
