Mars Pattern Warlord Psi-Titan: The Red Comet Walks

Telesto Rises

So I have finally settled on a bit of lore for the Titan Legion to which Red Comet belongs.

Legio Telesto.

In the Lore I've created, Madrigal the homeworld for my II Legion project was once a Primaris grade Forgeworld before Old night arose, and the cataclysm force many to evacuate the planet, this coincides with the rise of the Thunder king on Madrigal, which left the planet an irradiated and warp infested nightmare. Of the cataclysms survivors, most fled to the mountains above the mutagenic clouds. For the most influential Magos and Magi, they fled the world from the tip of mount exodus, establishing themselves on Madrigals sole moon, Akira.

Alongside many of the esoteric machinery and inventions to evacuate Madrigal, were a handful of Goliaths of the Amatarakete. While little is know of these ancient 'Goliaths,' references to them and descriptions match closely to 'Proto-Titans' which appear in Martian historical texts.

Over the Millennia, the Order of Amatarakete, would be the principle defenders of the Forges of Akira, their Psy-Engines eventually evolving and adapting into more commonly encountered Mechanicum pattern Titan engines such as the Warlord, and Reaver.

The Order of Amatarakete also know as 'Amatar', have their roots as a pseudo religious sect on Pre-fall Madrigal, worshiping and exalting the Madrigalan sun god, and God of the mind/Magic Amatarakete. It seems that during the torment of Old Night, some inexplicable, sporadic contact between Akira and Mars, led to the worship of Amatarakete being sub subsumed into the wider worship of the Omnissiah. To the Mechanicum of Akira, Amatarakete is viewed in some hushed circles as merely a facet of the Omnissiah, and due to the taboo nature of this doctrinal difference to the wider Mechanicum, Amatar's rites have largely been lost to the annals of time.

What remains clear, is that the unusual prevalence of the Psyker Gene amongst the inhabitants of Madrigal (and Akira), led to widespread induction of nascent psykers into the order, and later, the Titan Legio it would become. During the reunification of Akira with the Mechanicum and the Wider Imperium, the harnessing of psychic potential to war engines garnered particular interest of the Astra Telpathica, the Imperial order tasked with regulating and seeking out those beings afflicted with the psyker mutation.

It seems likely that, were it not for the presence of Icarion, one of the Emperor's twenty gene-sons, and his sponsorship, the Astra Telepathica would have seen the Akira and the Order purged. Instead, the Titan crews and Engines of the newly established Legio Telesto would quietly take their place alongside other Titans Legions in the Great Crusade, but more discretely, among the ranks of the Mechanicum's Diviso Telepathica.

So I have had a chance to finish the build of The Red Comet. Additionally, I had a friend pick up the Mars-Beta Pattern head, so I built that and let me tell you, it is beautiful.

The new princeps sculpt is gorgeous. It's similar to the new Knight Pilots. Sort of a cross between a Knight Scion, and a Titan Princeps with the armor.

Even a Las-Revolver, tucked in a under arm mount on his right side.

Other than the Princeps, the interior is largely the same.

I also had the opportunity to finish the Legio Telesto symbol on the Mars-Beta Shield. I'd love to hear whether you think it looks suitable for a titan Legion, I'm quite pleased with it.

Finally, I have begin the task of painting the Warlord. The skeleton has been undercoated in black and then Sprayed with Leadbelcher (Praise the Omnissiah for Leadbelcher spray).

The Legs have gotten their base coat and are ready for a wash of Nuln/Agrax Medium. Once that has been tested, it should be relatively quick to finish the rest of the titans skeleton and move onto armor plates.

I'm sorry for how long it has taken me to get updates, but I've had a bit of a nervous mental block about starting the painting process of the Titan. Ive been terrified that I might ruin it.

No longer.

Plus I need to get the titan finished for an upcoming mega battle with Depthcharge12 seeing as his christmas present has arrived early. Or should I call him Princeps Depthcharge?

As always, I'd love to know what you think.

I totally understand the block.  I managed to get the family to pool funds to get me a KX-139 Surpremacy suit for Christmas (which is nowhere near as expensive as the Warlord) and it is still on my desk, in it's boxes, untouched due to my terror.

Your build and stance look great, and I love your custom shield/heraldry.

One of my misgivings about this model is in most stances the legs appear too short. Such does not seem the case in your pose. Can you give a measurement of the overall height; for those of us so inclined to scratch build one? (Not!) :D

Love the work so far - the Scrits, Guardian serpents and the Unicorn icon are nicely worked out. And to think that the Guilliman model I have was filling me with thoughts of dread assembling and painting. Nothing compared to dealing with a Warlord! blink.pnglaugh.png

ChromeZephyr - I had that thought too laugh.png

Now seems like as good a time for an update as any so....

The skeleton is completely base coated. I'll be testing my new washing medium over the weekend so after that, its just lightly drybrushing Necron compound and the skeleton is done.

(The Warhorns are probably one of my favorite little details on the model.)

And as silly as it is, I finally got around to adding the wind bells in between all the prayer Scrits. in total, there are 34 on the Warlord.

++++

It took a lot of work to get to this point but things should start to progress a bit more quickly over the next few weeks.

Thanks for checking in, and i'd love to hear your impressions of the skeleton base.

I saw the Warlord at the Open Day and whilst I saw for myself the amount of detail, it still amazes me of just just how much.

I really like the black and gold you've painted already. Do you have any idea what colour the scrits (perhaps a bone or aged parchment colour? The addition of the bells really adds to them now happy.png ) and Unicorn icon will be?

Sorry I missed this question before.

I know exactly what you mean about the legs looking too short. and I can't explain it either. I think it might have something to do with how people take pictures of the warlord. Pretty much every picture I have seen of it is taken with a view facing slightly down on the titan. Which can which can diminish the visual height of the legs compared to the torso. I try to take my pictures, level with the titan. The Height to the Carapace void shields is 48cm. Just under 19 inches. With the Guns on the shoulders tack on 4 inches.

It is daunting with all the details. Although having had a chance to look at the Reaver Titan I bought Depthcharge for X-Mas, I must say, that while the details on the warlord are superior and crisper, the warlord really lacks some of the character of the warhound and reaver, which is imparted through all the hand-sculpted/gothic details on those titans.

The scrits and bells should be done similarly to the ones found on my dreadnoughts, to help tie this titan with my II Legion project. Here:

Although these have yet to get their watered down blue wash to shade them but is should give you an idea.

I have no idea how I've gone so long without knowing this thread existed.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE THREAD EVAR!!!!

I'm glad you like the work so far! This thread has been easy to miss because I've been so bad about updating it. So, my bad tongue.png

I hope your Christmas gift will be arriving soon by AIR to help BRUSH those large armor plates msn-wink.gif

And yeah once I get out of finals and get my Titan up we'll have a reckoning between our Titans...

I can't wait to help you with your reaver, and to start playing with it, and the airbrush.

This is inspiring!! Your legend grows. Can't believe the output you manage.

Thank for the kind words. If by output your mean affording my resin, I'd have to say its due to the insurance from the fire. Other than that, I feel like my output has been pretty down lately, on both this front and on my II Legion. Hopefully, with the holdidays in full swing that will change!

Oh man, Athrawes, how can it be that Forge World hasn't scooped you up as a designer yet. Truely awesome stuff again. It might just as well all be Canon.

Thanks friend! Honestly, telling me the lore I write is head cannon is just about the biggest, nicest compliment I can get. So again thanks for that, it means a lot.

Whoawhoawhoawhoa!

How have I not seen this before now?!

I hope you like the work, and again apologies for slow updates due to my mental block about beginning painting.

Wow. Looking great! That pose is stellar.

So jealous. Eagerly awaiting more updates!

SOONTM

Where did you source the bells from?

Where did you source the bells from?

They look like trimmed-down krak grenades, but they must be bigger than that.

They are indeed trimmed down Krak grenades. My poor tactical squads are now ill prepared to handle tanks but alas it has been worth it.

They are meant to be representative of temple bells and furin wind chimes like this:

Progress:

So I still have an amazing amount of work left on the pieces being shown here, I need to wash the skeleton (still sigh), and do a fair bit of clean up on the armor plates. I also need to work on the back of them just enough to make them look good. This is pretty much just me playing with my X-Mas present from Depthcahrge, an Iwata HP-CH airbrush. This is the first model I've ever tried airbrushing and I think it is turning out pretty well.

I'd love to hear your thoughts though!

How does one get on this x-mas list to receive a Reaver titan? Lol!

Lose a few games to me so that I feel guilty and have to by you off. Just kidding. Basically I knew Depthcharge was planning on buying himself a Reaver this winter, to combat my Warlord. I felt a little bad that the Titan created such an expensive arms race so I thought it would be nice to gift him a titan instead of letting him one. I don't think he likes his any more though msn-wink.gif .

A worthy sacrifice, indeed. Thanks!

No problem, the Krak grenades have worked very well.

Oh hush you. You know I love that Reaver - heresy besties 4 life.

...it's just the evil side of me has a hole burning in his pocket to get a whole Titan legio, but the sensible side of me beat him up. I still need to put together the one Reaver I've got :D

But that Mexican standoff between our Titans is coming...soon...verrrrryyyyyyy sooooon.
