2k word bearers

Hey I've been messing around with a few lists trying to include stuff I like from the Horus heresy range whilst still trying not to stick to the word bearer legion restrictions. I tried to go for a predominantly infantry based army as I am trying to model them on the word bearers Graven Star chapter which seems to be a boarding specialist so no tanks here is what I came up with

Word bearers 2000pt

Erebus 195pts

Forge lord 195pts

Boarding shield, cyber familiar, rad grenades, cortex controller, thunder hammer, conversion Beamer

Elites

Apothecarion detachment 150pts

All with augury scanners

Troops

13 breachers 310pts

Dark channeling, 2 meltaguns,

14 tactical marines 260pts

Extra close combat weapons, dark channeling, sergeant with power fist

14 tactical marines 260pts

Extra close combat weapons, dark channeling, sergeant power fist,

Heavy support

Deredero dreadnought 235pts

Atomantic pavaise

Deredero dreadnought 235pts

Atomantic pavaise

Castellax class battle automata 160pts

Darkfire cannon, paragon of metal, siege wrecker,

How does this look? Was looking for a massed infantry backed up by some long range firepower. Would the conversion Beamer be worth it on the forgelord? more saw it as a bit of a laugh especially if he managed to snipe a vehicle or two at long range.

Also a couple of questions. If I take Erebus I don't have to take a chaplain etc so I can field a forgelord???

Very durable with lots of infantry, but little long range firepower and no fast-moving units. I think this force will struggle against a gunline army, or against an opponent with a dedicated close combat beatstick that can just mow through your infantry blobs.

Hmmmm true, any advice how to change that???? More looking at a infantry based army though but inexperienced with heresy stuff so just went with what I thought was cool

........... Any suggestions I was thinking of going For the Pride of the legion getting  cataphractii or veterans as troops instead of the tacts but wouldn't have any transports ( I have vowed to stay away from land raiders and spartans) unless i freed up points for pods/ claws. Should I drop a dread or something?????

I'm going to bed ATM. When I wake up tomorrow (today, actually) and have a good re-read of the WB rules and all-that-jazz I'll try and come up with something to help you on your way!

So, I thought about it a bit and....

At 2k Points, Even with 2 Deredeos and a Darkfire Castellax, I get the feeling that you still don't have a real answer to Av14. LasDestroyer Rapiers might actually be a good choice in this case being S9 Ap1 Ordnance.

I also feel that Dark Channeling benefits units that are Dedicated to CC and/or Don't have an invulnerable save since you have the chance to get a 5++, +1S or Zealot; though Zealot is less likely to come into play since you'll likely shove the mandatory Chaplain with them anyways.

You might actually be served better by an Equivalent-in-points Assault Squad instead of the Breachers or, if you're not opposed to the idea, Gal Vorbak. The Assault Marines mainly because they have the option for Squad-Wide Melta Bombs and add a fast-moving element to your List; the chance for them to roll the Daemon 5++ making them  that much tougher while potentially saving you points for not having to buy them Combat Shields, the +1S or Zealot making them that much more Potent in CC, etc.

For the Forgelord, if you want him to take a Conversion Beamer, get him Relentless in some way.

For the Deredeos, the Antomantic Pavises wont be adding much to your units unless they get the Daemon 5++ which would get boosted to a 4++ You'd be better served with the Missile Launchers for the 60" MEQ Killing. The Points saving would also let you take more Bodies or other Equipment especially due to the short range of the Pavise.

+++

As is, the list is playable with the aforementioned Lack of Reliable Av14 Countermeasures being the only sticking point.

Edit: just remembered you wanted Breachers in :p

In that case, a Breacher Squad for back-mid field support at 20 men (if possible) and 2 Equivalently equipped Assault Squads might serve you better then the Tac Squads. The points saves from losing 2 Apothecaries means you can gear up the Assault squads a bit more.

Between 2 Deredeos w/ Missiles, a Darkfire Castellax and 15+ breachers w/ Apothecary, you have enough back-to-mid field shooting.

Can a Praevian be the second hq unit required?

If so he could make a more effective unit when joined with some Castellax...

If you could shave 120 points from somewhere you could add 2 Thudd Guns that would greatly help with both anti horde and anti armour...

Yes he can since Erebus fills both the Chaplain and Diabolist Requirement though you still need a second HQ.

That said, he'd still need to find the points somewhere for 3+ Castellax with Darkfire Cannons to make it a decent threat and at 2k Points, thats on the cusp of being a very tough choice to make.
