I'm not wholly keen on them but they seem firmly established. So, I have to open it up to you and if you want to do something with them, make me like them :tongue.:

Might the Drowned use Saturnine armour? Distrusting machines and lacking large Dreadnought reserves, specialist Terminators could be handy.

This could work well with Talonair and the reparations made by the abyssi to the drowned. We can include the issue/repair or retrofit of saturnyne armour (most likely stolen) within that, and then it's covered cannonically quite well.

 

Speaking of the dreadnought thing and lacking, based on this, the armour could be armed like miniature boxnaughts, so an ironclad suit for breaching doors, with a mini version of a hurricane style weapon top mounted, then regular and mortis variant loadouts. But veeeeery limited because from regular universe these suits are stupid 'ard

Destroyer Flamespiller Kyllan

 

The destroyer Kiellan is indicated to have been a veteran of the Drowned's gruelling campaigns of subaquatic campaigns of extermination. He was commonly known for utilising phosphex, a flame that failed to perish in even the coldest depths. During the Battle of Untarra he was assigned to ensuring the slaughter of any Scions Hospitalier within the planets northernmost refinery. After teams of automata were used to secure the various vehicle bays containing air-capable craft, Kiellan's destroyer squad mounted an incursion into the structure's lower levels, resulting in a phosphex conflagration that rapidly began to consume anything in it's path. The Scions sheltered within were forced to flee into the open water only to be mercilessly gunned down by Legionaries and Charonic Seekers lying in wait. Despite surviving the Battle, albeit with severe injuries, Destroyer Flamespiller Kiellan's name does not appear in any further records from either side.

 

The Destroyers' armour appears to be a heavily modified suit of Mark III armour, most likely custom altered by the Legionary himself, visibly both for aquatic and chemical warfare. The armour itself is plain, if in good repair, and almost unmarked with the exception of shoulder pad Legion insignia and a simplistic unit badge. The plating also shows signs of riveting with additional layers in order to withstand pressure. The most clearly augmented piece of armour is the helmet. While it lacks the 'gills' of the Mark IV suits gifted by Icarion, additional rebreather systems obscure the helm's original vox-grilles. Flamespiller is shown here as also being equipped with an 'Argonian' type jumpack. Considerably bulkier than patterns used by the Scions, it can be deduced that this was used by the destroyer to escape his own phosphex blazes as he set the water itself aflame. Armaments consist of a pair of 'Sarnath' pattern bolt pistols, a power bladed Shotel and two phosphex charges.

So, I'm very late to the party, and I'm beyond happy to see that this project is still up and running. I'm absolutely gutted that I can't be an active member, especially now that I'm currently no longer an active hobbyist, but I'm so, so proud of you guys and what you have turned my inanity (or is it insanity? After all, I'm actually writing questions to myself, so maybe that answers it) into something my wildest dreams can't contemplate. While I'm here, I thought I might as well post what was the last working draft of the rules I had regarding the legion. Points, obviously still need to be worked out, and perhaps a run over with the balance guru.

SPECIAL RULES

Sire of the Drowned; Sorrowsworn Morro has the Night Vision and Move Through Cover special rules. While Morro is on the field, all Characters with the Legiones Astartes (The Drowned) special rule gain the Hit & Run special rule. In addition, all models with the Legiones Astartes (The Drowned) special rule gain the Immune to Fear special rule, and gain the Rage and Furious Charge special rules until the end of the charge phase if they declare a charge against a unit that has Gone to Ground.

 

The Bleak Tide; Legion Terminator Squads and Legion Seeker Squads may be taken as Compulsory Troops for a Drowned Legion primary detachment with Sorrowsworn Morro as its Warlord. In addition, all suits of Terminator Armour (any variant) grant the wearer the Deep Strike special rule; this Deep Strike is done by Teleport.

 

Dispassionate Watcher; While Sorrowsworn Morro is on the battlefield, if a model with the Legiones Astartes (The Drowned) fights in a challenge, any unsaved wounds they suffer (including any excess wounds should they be killed) do not count for the purposes of who won the combat.

 

WARGEAR

War-Panoply of the Daeva; All Primarchs were equipped with a suit of armour that enhanced their chosen combat styles, while mitigating their weakness. Morro was no exception; although his armour was comparatively gaudy compared to that of many of his legion, it was still rather spartan compared to that of his brother Primarchs. Secreted within the wrist was an immense bladed chain, used to trip foes, and grapple them.

 

This armour provides a 2+ Armour Save, and a 4+ Invulnerable Save, and any wounds allocated to Morro caused by rolling a 6 to wound with a Rending Weapon are resolved at the weapons normal AP value instead. In addition, any Initiative checks made by an enemy unit with one or more models in base contact with Morro treat the Initiative value of all models in the unit as being 2 lower than normal, and any enemy unit making a Hit & Run move to leave a combat must do so as if they were in Dangerous Terrain. Any wounds suffered as a result of failing these Dangerous Terrain tests are made at AP3. If the model making the move is already in Dangerous Terrain, successful tests must be rerolled.

 

Shotel of the Suhlt'ahn; It is unknown how or why Morro came to favour this style of weapon, but it was made to his specifications. Shaped like a traditional scimitar, but rather than a gentle, inwardly curving blade, the shotel curves outward, with the cutting edge on the inside of the blade. Morro can wield it with a speed that belies its size, and can easily bring down the guard of a shielded foe, each strike releasing a blast of radiant light.

Shieldbreaker; Invulnerable Saves granted by any kind of Shield against attacks by this weapon have a -2 penalty.

Prismatic; This is treated like the Blind special rule for all intents and purposes, with the exception that a test must be taken for each unsaved wound caused by this weapon.

 

NOTE; This is Sorrowsworn Morro prior to the loss of his hand, and thus before the commencement of the Insurrection. These rules are intended to be included purely for the sake of completeness, before Morro's slide into depravity. This is signified by his title; "The Copper Prince". The form he takes during the Insurrection is more widely known as "The Impure Prince"

SPECIAL RULES

Poltergheist; Hennasohn is a Psyker with a Mastery level of 3, and may select any 3 powers known from the Telekinesis discipline instead of generating them normally. He is never considered to have Psychic Focus, although he may select the Primaris power as one of his powers known. Hennasohn is always considered stationary while firing his Master Crafted Boltgun, and may assault even after shooting that weapon.

 

In addition, Hennasohn adds his Mastery level to his Weapon Skill, Strength, Initiative, and Attack values in the assault phase. However, this value is reduced by the highest Mastery Level of enemy any Psyker within 6" to a minimum of 0. If there are models with the Ex Oblivio and/or Psychic Anathema special rules within 6" of him, Hennasohn's Mastery level for this purpose is reduced to 0.

 

Marked by Dark Fates; The Fates seem to hold an unending existence of war for Hennasohn. In campaign games where character casualties and injury between battles is a factor, any such chart results for Hennasohn may be rerolled.

 

WARGEAR

Netheramber Torc; This amulet is said to be forged from a time before any civilisation existed with an inlaid gem of solidified corposant.

This Torc gives the wearer a Refractor Field and a Psychic Hood.

 

The Detritus; While many Legion Commanders have specialised weaponry, tailored, or crafted for their skills, Hennasohn instead wields the captured blades of enemy as adroitly with his mind as some of the most skilled blade-masters in the legions. Some consider it to be cheating, and not true skill; Hennasohn cares little except for the proof of victory.

Warlord Trait

He often leads a strike force in the old dirges of the Styxian orphanage workhouses before a battle, and he can often be heard spreading his melancholy during battle as he continues to do so. Although he has been tested for latent psychic potential and been found wanting, it is unclear as to why these so-called Hymns of Misery can impede those who wish to deal harm to the equerry.

 

Any charge made against Boraeo is considered to be both difficult and dangerous terrain.

Pistolier; Boraeo has the Precision Shot and Chain Fire special rules. Whenever Boraeo makes a Chain Fire attack, his pistols are counted as having the Gets Hot! special rule. In addition, any Overwatch attacks he makes are resolved at BS2.

If the test is failed, the power is not used, and the unit is Pinned (though they do not go to ground). Further information on these abilities can be found here. Although a unit may have multiple models with the Channelled Power, it may only be used successfully once per turn.

On a note, the hades may need replacing due to the termite coming out.

Thanks for the heads up - but I'm more than happy to keep the Hades as part of the Legion. All of the Legiones will have access to the Termite and the Mole (just researched them both; They look incredible! Can't wait to actually get them painted up). The Hades however has long been something I've wanted to include, especially given that the Legion has not been part of the typical Crusade structure for such a large time.

Yeah, absolutely, been reading through this afternoon. Absolutely stunned; and the painted models look incredible! I sold all of my gear, so I'm starting back at square one, picking up odd models here and there for DnD purposes. I have however just seen the protosculpt for Alpharius. This legion started off as a Proto-Alpha Legion army in any case back in 3.5ed Chaos (hence the use of Auxiliary forces influences etc), and I can't wait to get a hold of him, and paint him up. It also appears as though his gauntlet actually has a chain around it also; looks like I may have the basis for pre-Insurrection Morro; just need to find an appropriate blade. Edited by Hesh Kadesh

Fluff time:

Unabashed Kharkis: probably the most straight up and down member of the drowned you'd ever meet because he never danced around issues, not even when confronted by superiors, fortunately he was on the taller side as an astartes, and a skilled combatant with a mace (a weapon to match his bluntness) which prevented some from engineering his demise. As a commander, he doesn't seek to mask his forces, in fact he appears to actively display them, some more foolish would say this is vanity, those less so knew that was what was going to end their life that day should they choose to fight.

In appearance, his features were broad and flat, not a handsome astartes by any means, and his body was heavily scarred.

Until war called he was always helmetless as he believed in looking a man in the eye, and when he was in battle, his plate was largely plain, with legion symbol, company and rank displayed.

@ hesh: for your consideration as I forgot you don't discord:

Is there potential for some funkiness as regards ayatollahs and ships within a fleet? Said funkiness would be an appropriate number of command thrones to monarchs on the bridge of any ship. Each monarch/ayatollah sits in the centre throne, and holo projections of the others appear in the remaining seats so the group command effort is maintained.

 

so as long as each ship is in system the link can be maintained, any exiting commanders disappear from the projection

The sum of the changes from a Veteran Tactical Squad to a Seeker Squad is +55 initial cost, and +8ppm. 175 Base, +55 for Seeker Upgrade + 15pt Deep Strike Boost = 245pts

 

Wargear

- Exchange Combi-Bolter for a Rotor Cannon - +5ppm

- Exchange Power Weapon for a Powerfist - +5ppm

- Give Havoc Launcher - +15ppm

 

Total Cost

= 245 + 25 + 25+ 75 = 370pts

 

Further upgrades;

- Grenade Harness for Ferryman

- Havoc Launchers upgrade to Cyclone Missile Launchers (75pts, entire squad)

- Bio-Corrosive Ammunition (Poisoned 4+, 15" Range Rotor Cannons, +10ppm)

- Rotor Cannons to Iliastus Assault Cannons (75pts entire squad)

- Powerfists to Chainfists/Thunder Hammers (5ppm)

 

Would there be any complaints with the Charonic Seekers thus being priced as such?

 

370pts seems like quite a large amount. If we compare Fulmentarus with Cyclones; 375pts.

 

Now, there's a slight difference between the units;

- Fulmentarus; dedicated medium AT - 10 BS5 Tank Hunting S8 Missiles, with Night Vision (375)

- Siege Tyrant; dedicated light-medium AT - 10 BS4 Wrecker S8 Missiles with Night Vision (295)

- Charonic Seekers; anti-light infantry/assassin squad - 20 BS5 S3 AP6 and 10 BS5 S5 AP5 Missiles (370pts)

 

However, I don't think that the pure numbers works out well. If they go up against the best possible target for them, which is a squad of Militia, that's about 19 hits and about 12 dead from the Rotor Cannon, and if we imagine that they've got an average of 3 under each template, that's another ~26 dead. But put it up against a Terminator Squad, Command Squad, or similar, and the damage really drops off - it's maybe only 3 dead. And that's including with the Preferred Enemy buff going up. Given that the squad cannot do anything against armour other than hope for lucky glances against a Side/Rear, or spending a vast amount of points, I suggest that the cost of the unit is 325pts, with a possible upgrade for +75pts for the Cyclones and/or the Iliastus.

If dropped to Mastery 2 (powers wouldn't change, he'd have Assail through Focus, I'd increase WS and A by 1 (to 5 and 2 respectively), but otherwise leave the same; saving reducing total by 35pts to 225 to match Ahriman's cost.

 

There is a Boltgun as well, but that's not exactly going to do much, similar to how Tarvitz' Sniper Rifle does nothing.

Before the unit and characters, any revisions you want to do to the Drowned wargear? Specifically, are you okay with Grifft's drill switch?
