Alright the bases didn't come in yesterday and I made it until late tonight when I finally threw in the towel and just barely glued some of the Veletaris to their bases so I could at least work on the colors. I was painting-starved and needed a quick fix damn it! ohmy.png

So the goal was the following with slightly lighter armor (My previous pic I accidentally did the hand grip as red, which is why I'm reposting it):

...and while I'm still not entirely thrilled with the gun stock, as I didn't have mournfang brown around to do it properly, I'm still pretty damn happy with how it turned out. I actually ended up working some red into the padding using Doombull Brown which helped play to the "rust" portion of their name.

Once again he's only on this base for painting so disregard the fact it isn't painted, I just need it as a grip point.

Anyways, let me know what you guys think of the color scheme because while I can tweak it a little and adjust, I don't want to get 5 models in and run into a serious problem. The more opinions the better!

Looks good to me, just need a complementary base scheme smile.png

I have all resin bases coming for these guys, over 60 on order between Dragon Forge and others. It's going to be a rocky/stone style with much lighter and darker tones so it doesn't wash out the model. I should be receiving them any day now but I've been dying to paint these guys for weeks.

I also managed to get a steal on ebay last night with a Dracosan, magnetized, primed but unpainted and a full Veletaris storm section with free shipping for $140. Only two of the storm section have been lightly painted (metal on the helmet and a bracer) but since they aren't primed it won't be a problem. The resolution on the image was high enough for me to make sure the paint wasn't thick and that the Dracosan was well put together.

I'm so excited about this because I've been trying to get a Dracosan but even standard shipping with taxes and the conversion rate it ends up being about $140, so I basically got a free Veletaris squad! Oh and I don't have to clean up a ton of resin dust from the Dracosan, hell yeah! cool.png

Wow fantastic looking army. Can you tell me how you did you bases? I am looking for a similar theme for my Daemon army. Thanks

Well the bases for the Lions of Leander VI were done entirely with Agrellan Earth, except for the Valkyries where I added trees. The one exception would be the base on the Marauder Destroyer and it was made by Dragon Forge.

I have a large order of bases in to Dragon Forge but as Jeff is getting hammered with orders, I've been supplementing with Secret Weapon Miniatures in the mean time and have been pleased with their service and quality. My entire Solar Auxilia Cohort is sitting on their bases.

Lately I am posting almost exclusively down in Age of Darkness, except for a few comments here and there, so for those of you who either didn't know about it or are curious what I've been up to...here is the crash course on what has been eating up my time and money!

(I feel comfortable posting this here as the Solar Auxilia are still part of the Astra Militarum!)

The fourth shot is going to be pretty massive but I need to finish another Incinerator and a Malcador Annihilator when it shows up as well. biggrin.png

Miss everyone up here in AM, I'll try to get in here a bit more regularly and avoid enormous posts of browser destruction in the future.

Wow. I'm supremely impressed. That's a really interesting paint scheme, and a really cool set up. I'm curious about your Solar Auxilia forces. I know they can be played in 40k, if you do so, can you ally them with other 40k armies? Like IG?

I'm planning on keeping them isolated due to force structure concerns but I will be most likely playing them against 40k armies as I believe I'm the only one in the GW store actively working on a 30k force.  I'm closing in on the final few things to get these guys in the field but I will admit that I'm getting exhausted due to the rate I've been painting them.  If you look at the top of this page you'll see that the very first Veletaris painted was finished on or around October 18th.  Since then I've painted 20 Veletaris, 10 Household Retinue, 2 Dracosan, 1 Leman Russ Incinerator, 1 Leman Russ Annihilator, and the Auxilia Tactical Command Section.  With shipping time accounted for...that's basically one month for all of that painting!

My goal is to have enough people to field the Scorpion Formation, which I posted in my Age of Darkness Thread, designed to provide full cover for the disembarking of the troops while providing overlapping fields of fire and a "Stinger" of 3 Leman Russ Incinerators rolling up the center and bringing the armored fight to the enemy.  Keep in mind Dracosans are AR13 with armoured ceramite/blast shields decreasing incoming damage even further and neutralizing meltaguns.  The Annihilator is sitting at AR14 on the front with Siege Armour as well.

The only real issue is having to get a Thunderbolt for anti-aircraft coverage as I don't have any dedicated AA guns to deal with them as it stands.

Here is the rough PowerPoint I did for it:
