Well, if you're going for DAT FLUFF, fair enough on the selections.

Only thing to be cognizant of when you play a game is that your Spartan will be a VEEEEEERY high Priority Target :p

Out of curiosity, how would you change the list up to make it more competitive? I honestly don't know how 30k games normally play out so the input is very welcome =D

I was hoping the armoured ceramite would somewhat alleviate the risks of the Spartan becoming a fireworks show.

Ceramite is a good start but the Flare Shield on top of that makes it that much harder to kill and is pretty much mandatory if you plan on running a Spartan Borne Deathunit.

First is, you'd get some Anti-Air, Probably a Deredeo, a Mortis Box Dread at the least.

Probably cut the Tac Squads down to 10 in Rhinos. Big blobs are nice, sure, but that big blob eating an S10 Template from a Typhon or Medusa makes them disappear real fast and mean that the points you invested into an Apothecary for FNP were kinda wasted. If you know that S8+ Blasts / Massed Shots aren't prevalent in your area, then run with the 20man Blobs. I'd also at least get Artificer armor on your Sarge to tank Non-Ap2 Shots.

Swap the Preator for a Forge Lord Consul and make your Existing Consul a Primus Medicae with the same gear. With Vulkan around, you dont need a Praetor since their main draw is Master of the Legion.

Depending on what your local area looks like, A minimum of 3 Grav Cannon Rapiers to counter any Spartan since they're Haywire Shots and get around the Flare Shield and Armored Ceramite.

Next would be getting more Anti-Tank. A single Sicaran and Spartan wont kill much and are pretty big targets themselves. Alongside a Normal Deredeo you could add another Sicaran, Venator or more Rapiers, probably Thudd Guns for more general purpose firepower.

Also, as more General Advice, Primarchs who are, at cheapest, 380pts, isn't really that strong of a choice, imo, in sub 3k Point Games. Essentially you're building a 2k List to go up against 2.5k and those 500 points can usually means more firepower, the best example being a Typhon who, unlike a Primarch, will be dishing out S10 Ap1 7" Ignores Cover Templates.

Couple that with ~1k Points of your army just in Vulka+HQ+Firedrakes+Spartan, it doesnt leave you with much to work with to make your list capable of dealing with multiple threats. Additionally, if your opponent were to take out your Spartan which your whole lists survival relies on, then they're stuck Footslogging it and eating gunfire.

If you did prop the list up to 3k, it would give you a lot more room to breathe since it would let you build a Strong 2k List then just slap the 1k Deathmobile into it.

Against a list thats ready to deal with and take out a Spartan ASAP, you'll struggle to actually do anything since so much is invested into it actually doing its job and unloading the occupants in your enemies lines.

Thing to keep in mind is that, the more competitive a list, the more generic it will get.

All very good ideas, I was thinking of bumping it up to 3k for the exact reasons you mentioned, and sorry I forgot to mention the consul was a Medicae.

The local meta where I'm from is pretty nonexistent (for 30k), I would be the 4th one to start a force, so the odds are i'd be playing the list into more 40k forces than anything (unless this rumored HH plastics box bumps up the local hype for heresy gaming).

I'll get to work on a version 2.0, I'm not too upset about the point increase, it just means more shinys to paint and play with.

Edit: just read the Sallies RoW rules, can only take 1 Consul, so no Forge Lord.

Here's an edited 3k list, still trying to keep it fluffy-ish so the Marines are all on foot (though that really has nothing to do with fluff, mostly just preference). Added in some bleachers for the cool models and to serve as an escort/ bodyguard for the 2 Grav Rapiers, as well as a Deredeo Dread for anti- air and armour. Only issue being I have 55 points left to use 0.o.

You dont necessarily have to use a Preator. Most consuls are valid Compulsory HQ selections. Only the Librarian, Primus Medicae, Master Of Signal and Praevian are support officers.

So after looking over the rules I remembered that in order to use the Salamanders RoW you can only have one consul, which in this case is the Primus Medicae. Im playing Salamanders mainly due to their insane resilience and how it matches up to the way I enjoy gaming so it's no skin off my back to have to take the super tanky praetor in stead of another consul of any kind (none of in which I found that fitting to the list thematically).

Edit: original list edited to most recent version.
