EVENT - The Shadow Crusade

Seeing as this is quite rapidly taking over the insurrectionists strategium, here's a thread where we can discuss all things related to our universes version of the Shadow Crusade.
The traitors legions are the Berzerkers of Uran, Stygian Jackals and Eagle Warriors.
The loyal legions(at the moment) are the Crimson Lions and Iron Bears along with small detachments from most of the other loyal legions.

Brief Outline

Setting off from the [place where our massacre happens], the Stygian Jackals, Berserkers of Uran and Eagle Warriors cut a bloody swathe through the Ultima Segmentum, leaving the Crimson Lions empire in flaming ruin. Fully 100 worlds are left desolate husks from the unbridled slaughter, culminating on cadia, the war world at the eye of terror. Raktra, hearing khornes call, is dragged to the eye, and all that stands between him and his new master is cadia. And so war is waged, with the three traitor legions battling against isolated crimson lion elements, a large force of Iron Bears, and reinforcing companies from the Halcon Wardens and several other legions, assigned to watch for signs of demonic incursion (Demons are referred to as a xenos strain inhabiting the warp, up until the Insurrection, when the emperor finally admits that there are other forces at work in the material world). Ultimately the BoU, SJ and EW are victorious, and cadia is left barren and isolated, pockmarked with scars from apocalyptic weapons on an untold scale. Raktra ascends to Daemon Princehood, and the BoU continue into the eye of terror, along with the EW. The Jackals open fire upon the Eagle Warriors and then head for terra, Willym Jackel blaming them for what the Berserkers have turned into.

Loyalists

  • Crimson Lions (3/4 strength at the start, 1/4 strength at the end)
  • Iron Bears (1 grand war tribe)
  • Halcyon Wardens (1 company guarding Cadia)

Traitors

  • Berserkers of Uran (en masse)
  • Stygian Jackals (5/6 strength)
  • Eagle Warriors (1/2 Strength)

(All the traitor legions have their primarchs with them)

Couple of questions

  1. does the crimson lions homeworld get destroyed
  2. what other legions are present, at any time during the crusade
  3. have I missed any other important details?

1. There are small detachments from most of the loyal legions present, companies who've survived the various ambushes by traitors throughout the galaxy and have washed up in the CL's empire.

2. The Cl's empire is located in the Segmentum Obscurus rather than the Ultima Segmentum.

3. I think we'd need a pretty good reason for 3/4 of the Crimson Lions surviving the original ambushes.

4. Unless something has changed we're not having a dropsite massacre in this universe. It's lots of seperate ambushes, more like lots of Calths.

  1. Ok then, lots of marines!
  2. Sorry, didn't know that off the top of my head
  3. I assume the shadow crusade is the first major action against the Crimson Lions, while the rest of the legions have been hit hard already. I'd say a quarter died while they were on garrison duty/attached to other legions. Its safe to say that a company of Lions attached to the lightning bearers at the beginning of the insurrection would be obliterated pretty quickly.
  4. wasn't aware that we had scrapped the dropsite massacre, where was that decision made?

Yeah, the Dropsite Massacre was never a thing with this project. Instead, it's more like a series of ambushes on a chess board with Icarion manipulating the pieces without anyone figuring it out..

Thanks for the info guys, wasn't aware that we had scrapped the dropsite massacre. Must've missed it in the ~20 pages of stuff we had in the general discussion.

Lights danced in the void. Huntmaster Zadro looked upon the death beneath him. The Mechanicums futile fleet of light cruisers launched one last desperate attack run. Lance fire passed by, disappearing into the void. The battle barge's escort opened up with their own lance fire, searing bolts of energy pouring into the lead cruiser, and then the next, and the next. The ships were torn apart, flaming chunks of debris raining down upon the mechanicum world beneath.

Zadro grinned maliciously. Now things were ramping up.

"Launch the drop pods"

A single command brought about the end of Higno IV. New stars appeared in orbit, coming closer and closer, until they hit the ground, sending billowing clouds of cinder and dust rolling towards the encroaching Skitarii. Rounds pattered of the pods, until the doors began hiss open, pressurised gas leaking from the growing cracks. After five seconds passed, cylindrical objects were launched from within, into the herd of mechanicum warriors. A roiling electromagnetic pulse was unleashed, scrambling the circuits of the skitarii warriors. From within the pods, deafening cries arose, and from within hundreds of Jackals rushed out, spilling amniotic fluid and blood as they slaughtered the mind numb skitarii. The orgy of bloodshed and violence continued into the holds of the mechanicum's research station, the blood hungry warriors looting the great keep of priceless artifacts.

-first engagement of the Silent Crusade

Zadro stepped from the Stormbird, smiling at the carnage around him. Thousands of skitarii bodies littered the plains, already being stripped of their valuables by the Dark Meachnicum Magi. The Primarch will be pleased, he thought, walking towards the smoking ruins of the keep. He knew where he would find Magos-prime Kilhax, and Swordhunter Lokis. He wanted to know what they had recovered for the Insurrection's effort.

The Primarch will be pleased.

The Insurrections war effort.

These thoughts and many others raced through his mind, but all were surpassed by this one:

Blood for the Blood God

Skulls for the Skull throne

Khorne was calling, and Zadro would answer.

Hope you like it!

Short story about Hectarion meeting Raktra during the Cadian massacre

Alexos could hear the song of the warp in his ears. It was playing all around him, every bolter shot, scream of agony or clash of weapons a fresh note. At the centre of it was his brother, Raktra, slaughtering anything that came in front of him. Although he didn't know it, Raktra was bringing the song to a crescendo with the slaughter he was wreaking upon the loyalists. As Alexos looked on, Raktra went hammering through a squad of Crimson Lions, sending Hectarion sons flying, their bodies carved in two by the Grinder. Alexos could hear the crescendo coming. Soon it would be time. With this thought in his mind, he started chanting.

Raktra heard a roar to his left. Turning faster than many would believe possible, he saw that the roar was coming from a Crimson Lion who was charging him, boarding shield in front of him and swinging a power fist. With the flat of his blade, Raktra knocked the Lion aside contemptously. Then another three Lions charged him, revving their chainblades. 'You have to give them credit' thought Raktra as he carved them in two 'they certainly don't give up'. Just ahead of Raktra, a Crimson Lion champion sliced through five Berzerkers of Uran, his blade moving like a blur of steel, never stopping moving. The champion then leapt at Raktra, blade ready for a decapitating strike only to be shot out of the air by Raktra's pistol. Raktra started to laugh. This was all the vaunted Crimson Lions could throw at him?

Just then, a huge figure emerged from amidst the gun smoke and flames. The figure was huge, easily tall enough to dwarf Raktra. It was a levaithan in bronze and silver, with a massive Lion cloak blowing in the wind behind him. In one hand the new arrival held a shield, in the other an enormous axe. Not only that, but this giant was drenched in blood, astartes blood. Raktra knew it meant trouble. It was his big brother. "Nothing ever stopped you from finishing a fight dod it brother?" said Raktra. Hectarion snarled and said "You lost the right to call me brother long ago Raktra. You know why I am here. You remember the promise I made when you massacred my sons by the thousands". Raktra grinned and said "I seem to recall you lost your temper yes". Hectarion growled again and said "I swore I'd rip your head from your shoulders and hurl your body into the void. And I do not lie brother". Then, Raktra saw something fundamental slip in Hectarion. Some thin veneer of self control, eroded over centuries. Whatever it was, it fell and in that moment, Hectarion was gone, replaced by a savage, snarling being of raw agression and anger. Then it slammed into him and Raktra finally understood that what he'd always thought was wrong. Hectarion wasn't a less dangerous version of himself. He was more dangerous. Much more dangerous.

Yeah. That would be the way.

Maybe the Bloodthirster shards and whatnot transfer to Raktra, a more willing host and all that?

Although the other way around would be the more interesting way.

Maybe you could alter the end a little bit then because actually it reads like hec lost it all.

How about, hectaroin fights Raktra for a while, and suddenly Alexos puts a spell om hectarion, ripping out the deamon of hectarion and smashing it into raktra. Both Raktra and Hectarion black out for two days and two nights, but only raktra takes a second longer to lose consiusnous, alexos then tells raktra in those few precious seconds where to go in the eye of terror for "The final pact of the gods" and then Alexos and his sons suddenly dissapears in a dark purple mist. only to reapear on the planet Alexos wanted Raktra to go to.

Just a idea :p

I think that the idea is great but isn't it enough to infuse raktra with the shard and make some hokuspokus? At least there are alot of dead cadians around and raktra with the shard inside him has enough wrath too speed the transformation process up.

Question remains then: can hectarion survive without the shard? If so. How does it affect him? And is sigismund okay with such an idea?

Only because we love it. It mustn't Appeal to him cause we are altering his char or(@ nearly )kill him

If he makes it out alive.

Keep it open in best GW-Tradition

But it could result in a blast and hectarion is blown away and because of him blackout he seems dead for the rest.

True, true and true.

well, I never said hectarion would die :P

He would be carried away by his sons most likely, Raktra is blacked out anyway, so the BoU charge press is halted drastically, so the CL would have enough time to carry their liege away.

Hectarion should be able to survive without the deamon, he will most likely even profit from it, resulting in increased concentration and self control.

And Raktra would need one last nasty ritual before he becoms a deamon prince in my mind.. Well.. Alexosses mind xD

Hmmm. That would be too much. Too much rituals will take the momentum from the story. A blast where one prumarch dissapears and the other becomes more than a mere primarch fits imho better. And for hects dead....we dont know it is open:) no one carries him away. They would be a too important and easy target.

And remember:big e hasnt removed the whole deamon. So there must be a reason why. Or cam you imagine big e tolet a demon live in his son if the life of the son isnt endangered if the deamon is completly removed?

I'll think on the idea of Hectarion having the demon removed from him, strange as it is. On the other hand, as Mikhal pointed out, there's probably a reason the big E left that shard in there.

On the subject of what happens to Hectarion, we could incorporate both. He could live into M.32 but instead of doing a Corax as I originally intended, he could simply vanish with no one(except for possibly Venerable Leonus) having any clue where he went.
