Saul Invictus Posted September 28, 2015 Share Posted September 28, 2015 Greetings Brothers, As some of you may know, I've had roughly 4 incarnations of Captain Mikael Fabian to lead my 3rd Company force. I've been out of the hobby for a few months, what with having a 2nd baby, moving house etcetera, but I've decided to try and get back into my beloved 3rd, time permitting. And what better way to celebrate a return than redoing my favourite project, making another Fabian? This one is to be my final, ultimate version. I'll be using parts from my extensive bitz box, from kits including, the UK upgrade sprue, the clampack Captain, the old multi part Captain, and probably a few other places. I've adored the little fluff around Fabian ever since I read about him charging a Hive Tyrant at the polar fortress, armed with a power sword and plasma pistol, so that is how I always arm him, more commonly using the sword as the Burning Blade these days. Here's my very very early WIP, with no green stuff yet done, but please, have a look, throw ideas at me, judge my snail pace modelling. phoenix01 Posted September 29, 2015 Share Posted September 29, 2015 I use the Forge World Mark IV Command Set Captain for my Fabian. I replaced the sword on that kit with a modified Dark Angels sword (I reshaped the tip to lose the spatula end and make it more pointy) which I run as a Relic Blade. It has a tilting shield which I can use as a Shield Eternal if I want, and the armor is sufficiently decorated to work as artificer armor. Plus, it has the cool crested Mark IV helmet. Since the pistol is unseen in the model, I can use either a bolt pistol or a plasma pistol. I figure that since Fabian is Master of the Arsenal, he should have access to some of the Ultramarines' most revered armor and relics, so I have liberally used Mark III and IV armor throughout Third Company. I love how you've used so many parts that I've used in mine. That said, while we share a lot of parts, the poses are completely different. Mine is in a more duelist pose. I've also re-sculpted parts of the leg and chest armour to match the 2nd edition Captain (who I always viewed as Fabian) and butchered the original model way more than you did . After a guy, who has always given me stellar advice on another forum, pointed out that Fabian looked a little like he was throwing a spear, or would be stabbing downwards,if he reversed his grip, I'm going to swap the sword arm for something aiming out a bit more, or perhaps just green stuff a better joint in. If you try holding your arm like that with something long in it, it's really uncomfortable. Perhaps you could reverse the sword, maybe make him look like he's about to swing it? Good choice of parts though. The new Ultramarines kit has so many parts that fit Fabian. Shame. *bell ring* Shame. *bell ring* Shame. *bell ring* I completely forgot about this! Sorry. Here he is at the moment - better late than never I guess. I think I'm going to use this pose, after trying several different ones. The torso has been converted to hearken back to the old 2nd Ed Captain (because to me, he was always Fabian due to the background in Codex: Ultramarines). The pistol arm and backpack are just stand-ins, I'm not sure exactly what parts I'll use yet. The ranged weapon will also be magnetised so I can swap between loadouts. I'm not sure if I want to go back and re-pose the legs. As it is, the right leg doesn't match the direction of the sword, so he looks like he's turning to face someone in melee. If I re-positioned the right leg so that his right foot and sword were pointing in the same direction, it would look more like he was standing his ground ready for a challenger. Painting only matters in the event of a tie break, so all I've done is part of the base and a bit more on the crest.
