The Unmerciful - Leviathan and a little Grand Master

First things first
I never ended up putting up close up pictures from my final ETL vow. And while the models were done, I put in some extra work to make them a little more alive and complete. Especially with the Razorback.

Now on to the topic name. I really like the idea of the Lion's Blade. It's just feels right for a Dark Angels force. Now, I've collected this army for over 10 years with huge gaps in between. You can completely tell my progress as a painter with this army.
And I learned a lot. Case in Point:

Having such a fragmented progress meant, I usually painted single models.
But now I've started to change how I want to expand my forces going forward.
By building complete squads. Or at least as close to that as I can.

The basis for my plan and color scheme is this Marine

I have finally found the color combinations that I am happy with. I also changed something quite fundamental about my painting process. I started edge highlighting. Which sound ludicrous, but I was never a fan. Until I finally tried it again.

So now, I will use this log to document the building of a company and the auxiliary forces from the 1st, 2nd and 10th company as well as the armoury.

With this, I will leave you with my current workbench. I am reusing an older Sergent with an "all new" squad of Marines. They will wield a plasma gun and a Plasma Canon as is the perogative of the first of the Legions.

Your test marine is great: nice color scheme, effective highlighting, drilled barrel, excellent free handing, and extra detail work. Are you going to add static grass to the bases? You did a fine job with it on all three dreads.

Thanks for sharing.

@Finylcut: I did add static grass, just didn't take another picture afterwards.

@everyone: So glad about the positive reaction. I will try to keep it coming.

I continued on the squad friday and saturday. Didn't get as far as I had hoped, but I took some better pictures.

In my process, I try to batch paint, but sometimes I need the gratification of getting a model further along.

With that, here are some pictures.

I already showed the Test Model and the Plasma Canon gunner isn't far along enough for me.

I looked through the codex today and saw that the squad markings for Tactical Squads differ from what I painted. So I'm going to have to redo that.

I will also fix the more glaring mistakes at the end, specifically when it comes to  black lining

Sergeant:

Old model. All he got were the company markings on the fist and the squad markings on the shoulder pad

Tactical 1:

Super Happy with his face considering I didn't really think about how I wanted it to end up looking

Tactical 2:

Tactical 3:

Last body I built. Going with the theme of making the models more alive, he has a lot more equipment. He'll get the head of the Assault Terminator Sergeant, that is why he is carrying his helmet on his belt.

All in all, I'm super happy with him.

Wow, I just saw how long I've been neglecting this topic.

I finished the first squad and will post pictures soon.

I was able to aquire multiple tanks and a dropped. One of these is my current project.

So, a WiP-shot of one razorback http://i.imgur.com/c8ELLR1.jpg

More pictures will follow soon.

Happy new year and good luck hunting the fallen, my brothers.

Alright.

Finally, I'm updating this thread. I wanted to show what my 3rd company looked like right now.

Unfortunately, I had some issues with the proper settings on the DSLR I borrowed. Meaning, I will have to take more pictures. Especially when it comes to the Assault Marines.

The first Tactical squad:

Now that one is finally ready. I have an order of Grav weaponry on the way, so I'll have additional weapons coming.

What I did finish, is the Rhino/Razorback for the squad. Including the Assault Cannon turret.

Tank:

I salvaged this chassis out of an old Chaos Rhino I had. That's why one of the exhausts was blown off.

Full squad:

Second Tactical Squad:

This one was recruited out of old Marines without markings. Their APC will be the next vehicle I'll paint.

The Razorback in the pictures has the top hatch glued in place, so long term, it will serve and Command or Company Veteran squad.

Various Sergents:

I had these lying around pretty much done without edge highlights and backpacks.

They will get their squads soon

Deathwing:

This is the full strength of the First Company I can muster at this point. They will get some love in the future. I have around 35 Terminators lying around I still have to start with.

So, last weekend I was able to assemble the Marines of the Third Tactical Squad. They will be joining their sergent soon. I finished two of them already, 7 more to got, pics will be up soon.

Last thing I fnished though, is a Scriptor. I realized, I had very little finished HQ units. So, I'll be tackling those, inbetween the squads.

Last thing I assembled is the sergent for the Ninth Squad of the Third company. I'll paint him next, so I can finally field a proper sergent.

Alright, with ETL looming, I wanted to see how far along I am with the first Demi Company

And here it is
http://i.imgur.com/K5k6KEB.png

I omitted one Razorback, which is not here, and the Veterans, cause I won't really use them.

What do I have, what do I need?

Let's startout with the easiest

http://i.imgur.com/P4rolAx.jpg

Assault Marine Squad 1 - Done!

http://i.imgur.com/MMEn40P.jpg

Company Master on foot with a Relic Blade - Done

Company Master with Power Fist and Jump Pack - Done

Scriptor - Done

http://i.imgur.com/WtgPLW2.png
http://i.imgur.com/XmMrzIO.jpg

Tactical Marine Squad 1 - Will get a Grav Canon, otherwise, they are done for now

Tactical Marine Squad 2 - Will get a Grav Canon and their Razorback

http://i.imgur.com/Z6Kms8n.jpg

Tactical Marine Squad 3 - As you can see, they need plenty

- 6 Marines, including Grav Canon gunner

- Razorback

http://i.imgur.com/MUHA7yW.png

Devastors - Again, models are there, not much else

- 9 Marines, including 4 Grav Canon Gunners

- Razorback

And last but not least, the whopper

http://i.imgur.com/ZajNo7L.jpg

Company Master with a Command squad in a Drop Pod - Not much more than the idea.

-CM with Relic plade and combi weapon

-5 Grav Guns

-Banner

-Apothecary

Goal now, is to prep everything for painting.

Meaning, get the bodies and arms build and primed

Enough backpacks primed

Buy more paint and finally premix my main colors in new dripper bottles

For additional vows, I have 4 Land Speeders that are in dire need of painting

BTW, I have been kinda inactive on here, but have been posting regular updates on my Instagram

I just finished assembling all the models I need for my first vow which will complete my Demi Company.
kIVqwAg.jpg
It will be 2 squads of Devastators 9 men each. One with 4 Grav canons and one with 3 Grav canons and a veteran Sargeant.
3 razorbacks with twin linked assault canons
Company master with relic blade and combi weapon
Command squad with apothecary, banner and 4 grav guns
And a drop pod with a deathwind missile launcher
I'll calculate the points when it's time for my vow.

I'm really sorry brothers. I sufferd from premature colouration.

A mate showed me how to airbrush and is selling me his old gun.

Finished this one in around 4 hours yesterday. I'll buy another one for ETL, don't worry. The armored might of the Third Company will grow a lot stronger very soon.

I honestly can't believe how :cussty these pictures are. They are honestly just for documentation! I will take proper ones when I am not bound by oath to other duties (painting)

I have the Grav Canons ready for the first Devastor squad I pledged. Next up are more Bolter wielding Marines.
