Forward, Bearers of the Word

Hello, B&C Community. I have been lured out of lurking by the 8th Call of Chaos. This thread is primarily to document my progress for the event, but seeing as I do love a circle jerk as much as the next modeler, I suppose it will also serve as a source of future ego boosts. There will be painting, there will be fluff, there will be conversions, there will be crippling self doubt regarding my financial responsibility. I'm sure I'll learn a lot about photographing minis while I'm at it, and anticipate much apologizing for crappy pictures.

So, as a recap of what I pledged in my initial post, here it is. It's some 30+ models I hope to have done by December. Watch me go.

1 Dark Apostle
1 Chaos Sorcerer
1 Giant Chaos Spawn
1 Renegade command squad
2 10-man squads of Chaos Space Marines
16 Havocs

So let's get on with the Before pictures, shall we?

This is the Giant Chaos Spawn. He's built from a DV Helbrute body, and a random assortment of bits that I needed to use. He still has some work to be done, such as reattaching some horns and adding more GS to smooth him out. His name is Dan.

Here are the two 10-man squads. While they are already painted, they are some of my first models, and I have since discovered a much crisper and vibrant painting style. As such, I cannot stand to look at them. For this Call, I will be remodeling alot of them, and repainting them.

Here is the Sorcerer, who is very much in the same predicament. No remodeling here, as I am quite pleased with his covversion, but he will be getting a new paint job.

Renegade Command Squad. Or at least, what is currently assembled. My Traitor Guard is an ongoing side project, but hopefully the Call will give me the motivation to put some paint on them and settle on some bits. Wouldn't want anyone laughing at my Mark of the Lost.

Gross picture is gross. Here is the meat of my Call. The Havocs. While I have four melta gunners, four lascannoneers and a single plasma gunner painted, the Call will get me in gear to get the rest assembled and painted.

And here is what I am most excited about. My Dark Apostle. Converted from the new DA Interrogator Chaplain kit, I am very eager to get him painted. Working names: V'Raunt and Apophis Votan.

H'okay update time! Woooo! As pledged, I have been working on 20 Havocs (originally 16, but numbers are hard, so I adjusted for my bad counting). I figured I'd post most of what I had done. Ready? Here we go!

First, some fluff, as I have worked it out. The Havoc Coterie "Endmakers" is actually the 1st Coterie. The 22nd Brotherhood is actually quite similar to a codex compliant space marine chapter, in that its newest marines begin duties as heavy weapons specialists, once they are fully augmented and integrated into the Legion. The Havoc Coterie "Endmakers" is actually the 1st Coterie. While veterans of the Legion certainly serve within the 1st Coterie's ranks (those marines marked with devotional scriptwork on their armor or ornate weapons), it is primarily used as a training ground for newer inductees. It bears noting that to the Warp-touched years of the Word Bearers, even a "new recruit" will have already served for several centuries as of their induction to the Endmakers. The 1st Coterie is overseen by Veteran Champion Shaar Tul and his adjutant: Heth.

These are the melta gunners. Like the Lascannoneers and a few assorted others, I already had them completed by the time I pledged for the Call. I like to think the one with the yellow topknot and golden melta gun is a marine who is particularly enthralled by Slaanesh. The heat of slagged tanks is a sublime thrill to him, as is the hiss of melting metal. Slaanesh makes melta fun!

Here are the plasma gunners, ready to ruin the days of some loyalists.

Flamer marines are next. The one built from a DV Chosen body was actually complete before the Call, and I hate him.

Here are the Lascannoneers. I suppose by my own fluff all four of them are veterans of the legion.

Missle launcher havocs. A few details left to finish on these, such as a few flesh seals and the grille of one of them. But they're otherwise finished.

Here are those marines bearing some variety of bolter. Two heavy bolters are finished, as well as two line warriors to serve as ablative wounds. There are two of each left to finish. The marine with the sword and pistol is Shaar Tul, and the one with the skull on his backpack is Heth. While Heth serves as the Coterie's rangefinder and target spotter, Shaar Tul rouses his brothers with fiery oratory and oaths to the Dark Gods.

In other news, I also completed my Chaos Sorcerer for the Call. Which makes it the first complete part of said Call. Like I said earlier, I wasn't going to bother re-converting him at all, as I rather liked where he was. I did paint his robes black, and add a little chaos start decal, to make him look slightly less like a Librarian. As you can probably tell, he is made out of the DV Librarian Turmiel model, with an axe arm from the Fantasy Forsaken kit. I love how many good bits that kit has for a CSM force. Anyway, his name is V'raunt and he's not a very nice person.
