ART - Symbols, Icons and Badges

Something that suddenly popped in my mind while making a German test at school today (Random I know)

Maybe we could put all our legion icons and stuff in here? So the book makers have the collection of icons easily accessible.

And another thing, we should/could create a brotherhood of the lost icon, like the eye of horus is the horus heresy logo, we should also have a brotherhood of the lost logo.

Have a good one,
-Alpharius or Omegon

If you are talking about something like the Heresy "Eye of Horus" that forgeworld uses to represent the heresy, there is something being worked on, albeit a bit more chaosy.

Also, I think a collection of legion symbols would be great. I've also wanted to have a thread for completed (read fully painted and based, not WIP) miniatures from the brotherhood of the Lost project.

Hi there, I'm reviving this thread so that we can really collect all the symbols once and for all: Skalpynock has asked me if I could do some of the Legion Shoulderpad icons on Inkscape, in order to make the Legion quick reference sheets (like the Forge World red posters, which include name, basic colour scheme, icon and summary). I also plan on using these to make some banners/ribbons for the Brotherhood of the Lost.

In that goal, it would be great if you could post your legion symbols (along with names, numbers and colours in text) either in this thread or in PM, as I know some are dotted here and there on the sub-forum, and not necessarily in the first post, so navigation isn't always particularly simple. As an option, you can also tell me what armour mark you think would be iconic for your legion, so that we can have a bit of variety between the shoulderpad designs.

If you have several versions (ie, before and after fall, or finding the Primarch and so on), feel free to post all versions, with a quick precision each time, so that I can find my way around it all more easily.

Also note that I can have a try at making some for the Mechanicum, Knight, Titan or Auxiliae forces if needed, not just space marines. I also think that the Nightguard deserve their own sheet, so give me a heads up on this.

If you don't yet know what you want your symbol to look like, tell me in a PM, and I'll see if I can work something out.

Here's a sample of shoulderpads I've done in the past so that you can get an idea of what it might look like. Note that I've progressed in the Inkscape&Gimp department since, so I might be able to make the shading a bit nicer ^^

These were made for the Grail Wardens project some time back, and the left and right most designs were decided by other members of that project.

For the Nightguard I imagined their main emblem being an unblinking eye(basically the eye of horus)

I always imagined them with Malcador's symbol, albiet with a more round eye in the centre, the current one is a little weird.

For General Legion Emblem, I'm kinda undecided but am leaning towards a Variation of the Prime Helix; maybe a Prime Helix made of two Serpents?

For Veteran, I'm thinking a Blood-Ruby Serpents Eye; kinda like those we see on Sanguinius but a Vertical Reptilian Eye Slit instead of a Blood Drop.

The warriors of peace are in harmony with themselve and balanced. So why not use the classic on?

Remove the dots and you have a mostly unique symbol. You could even go so far and use red and blue( watch out pepsi) but that would symbolize heaven(blue) and earth(red) or fire and water. Put a yellow weapon/ sword etc. or even the needle through it and you have the color for humanity.

Which is a fun detail, cause humanity brings dysbalance to heaven and earth.

If I may, I have what I believe may be a more unique symbol for the Warriors, the Qilin, an ancient symbol of prosperity & serenity as well as a mythological creature that ranks among and sometimes above Dragons & Phoenixes in Chinese mythology.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qilin

EDIT 1: I reckon a simple Qilin silhouette could make a very characterful badge for the WoP, maybe with a pose like this:

EDIT 2: Nevermind, I found something closer to what I mean, although it's still a bit more detailed than what I imagined:

I like that idea better, Mikhal.

San, how would that translate onto a pauldron? It is unique, I'll give you that. Even if I don't use it as a legion symbol, I might use it elsewhere.

Way ahead of you Simison, I was editing my previous post as you asked.
