Scars seem to be getting a bit more popular nowadays

They're getting too mainstream! Hop off now with the hipster train while you still can!!!

 

I hear the first legion has only like two people doing them....we're like way better than those troglodytes doing white scars :P

I've wanted to do them for a while, but I'm loathe to do anything when sculpted pads an upgrades aren't available!

 

I've pretty much finished the 5 veterans now, the Consul-Librarian and the Consul-Delegatus. Just adding a touch of streaking grime to the armour and gluing them to bases and they'll be done! (Actual basing aside). Just got to think on how I want to base the darn things now! Ill take some pictures in the morning when I've got decent light.

 

I'm quite happy, I put in a forge world order, so should have 13 Jetbikes and the other 15 vets/tacticals turning up tomorrow. I'm also repurposing a Storm Eagle, Sicaran Battle Tank and a Sicaran Venator from a previous project as well (they're primed white and raring to go).

So, as promised, here are some pics of the (almost) finished article. All the minis below have been painted and weathered, and varnished. I just need to gloss the eye lenses and they're done. I'm still deliberating on the bases, and what to do with them. Don't wanna go over the top, but just some colour to add a little contrast to the off-white armour.

 

My Forge World order turned up today, so just soaking some Jetbikes now. I should finished the 5 remaining Vets and their Rhino, but really want to have a whirl at painting up a Jetbike.

B1soul - I'm gonna have my Praetor on Jetbike, so I'll give him a Glaive. Just need to find a suitable one to use.

 

KnightoftheRaven - you're too kind! I'm not the best painter in the world, and you can get some awesome techniques down just using enamel oils and paints that apply a certain effect. Really enjoying painting these.

 

Just got 4 Jetbikes in the sink having a soak atm, hoping to get them built, primed and the basecoats started tonight.

Glaive probably makes more sense as a "cavalry" weapon...so I think giving your jetbike praetor a glaive is a really fitting idea. Scars also favour power lances...so maybe you'd like experiment with those as well

These are by far the best take on HH Scars I've seen in a long time, I absolutely love the grimyness of them.

 

Combine this scheme with the fantastic Scars upgrade kits--and my dwindling faith that DA will turn out how I want them to--and I'm sorely tempted to get on the hipster train.

I really like em. However, I think you went a Little overboard with the weathering on the Autilon Skorr masked Helmet.

Arac - I think that's the zoom on my crummy iPhone ha. Looking at him in my hands, it doesn't look quite as grimy. Also, I just need to highlight and gloss the eye lenses which will add a spot of colour to the helmet.

 

Jetbikes are pretty much done now, just a couple of riders left to glue. Havn't anything suitable as a glaive, but tempted to give my Praetor the spear from the Minotaurs Chapter Master.

A quick sneak peak at what's on the painting table now. Here's the sergeant for one of my Sky Hunter squads. Won't be able to do too much today, but will squeeze in a bit of painting (busy day with work and off to see Spectre this eve, woo).

 

I've got 13 Jetbikes altogether at present, but thought best to try out doing just the one to see how my scheme will work on something larger than a tactical marine. I'm also waiting on a GK halberd for my Praetor on Jetbike. Need to do something with it, the straight blade of the halberd doesn't quite work for me.
