Emperor's Children ...... Land Raider/ Name the Legion

Recommended Posts

I think the bases are fine as is, I'm liking the extra details with the fallen leaves and the flower.

Amazing work, dude!

Thanks guys! I appreciate it, I have a nasty tendency to be overly critical on my stuff. Glad you like the bases, I managed to find the leaves in a model railway shop!

Anyway, thought I'd test out the light box and show off a Veteran Marine; I wanted to learn a good way of painting white on the course, so thought of doing the pads in white. I might now go for a whole squad of vets in MKII/III armours.

I've been champing at the bit to get some tank painting going on, and now with the onset of the ETL I can unleash!!

Had I not had work on the Sunday i'd have gone hardcore and tried to get up to the weathering stage.  Oh well////

I'm going to try and improve on the rhino... So behold the very WIP of my Sicaran....

Wow I love your vet! The bright gold on white coupled with the beautiful base gives him an elegant look that is so often overlooked in the age of darkness. Very unique! A terrain piece in the same style as that base would be amazing!

Thanks mate, I tried to make them elegant and refined, whilst still being war-ry, they are super soldiers after all.... I hope to do an armies on parade board, so you never know....

Here is the current progress on the Sicaran 'Gloriam', couldn't resist giving it a name!

I am still in the midst of weathering it, shall add some more chips and streaking grime, before a layer of dust.

I'm plodding along with the sicaran and a unit of 5 Cataphractii are almost done for the ETL - should have that first vow finished soon; I just felt a little tired of painting and wanted to build some marines! I've started a small squad of tactical supports - sort of based on the below art...

I spotted these third party helmets and figured they'd come in handy! Didn't want all of them being the same, so used some Bedlam fraternity and the classic EC head... perhaps these guys are already on the slippery slope! Might add some nasty looking knives and icons.....

I've also started work on this Delegatus, always thought this model would make a great EC!!

My final offering of the first vow, the comtemptor.....

chopped up the dire plastic calth kit and magnetised the hell out of it..

I'll do a head swap at some point, hopefully the bit will arrive soon --- but got to get these vows finished off, as I've got a new praetor to paint....

The only thing better than ridiculously pink marines is a ridiculously pink Contemptor....

I've really exaggerated the contrast of the shading and highlights, as I've found the oil washes and weathering washes it out.... As the pics of the Cataphractii below.

I like them, but might need to revisit them at some point!

I've been plugging away with the dreadnaught, quite liked the modelling and the painting of this beastie! I could seriously go for a Fury of the Ancients list, as it'd be something I might actually get painted....

I will probably add some weathering in due course, might try a bit of freehand on the scroll, but for the time being I think I'll call him done!!

I've been plodding along on the uber pink fest; this little blighter had to have a 're-pinking' to get it to match the Contemptor! I've blatantly ripped off Kizzdoug's idea of the the grey underside. I also tried to make it look a bit like a 'real' fighter plane, so used a few aircraft decals to help set the scene. It's still WIP, and I can always add more transfers if there are any Airplane geeks with suggestions!!

Following a brief chat with fellow EC-er's I thought I'd have a bash at a WIP of Chaplain Charmosian.

Inspired by the card game art...

http://i64.tinypic.com/1z4xxsz.jpg

I've based it on Erebus, I've added a book, Gladus and removed the accused Word Bearer symbol, replacing it with a III and am considering a back banner. As much as I love the aquila rosarius I am not sure i'd be able to it justice.

I'm in two minds about the Eagle right pad. I still need to make a crozius. Any ideas for a ranged weapon?? Keep the pistol?

Any suggestions welcome!

That's a really cool conversion, the eagle shoulder pad looks great! I personally would leave the back banner off because it is starting to make him look cluttered and his artwork doesn't have a banner, but that decision is entirely up to you.

Weapon wise I can't really say, I don't recall ever seeing art with him holding a weapon but I could be wrong. He is of the IIIrd so any exotic or unique weapon could look good. Maybe give Erebus' maul a tinkering with?

Thanks man!

The full card game art suggests the black banner is his, hence me putting it on! It's all blue tacked together hence cluttered and odd fits.

I'd love to give him a Xenos weapon, or even something a little corrupted - perhaps I'll subtly defile the crozius. Erebus's mace is a bit big and too word bearery!! I was thinking something like a very eagley crozius; so best trawl eBay for chaplain bits....

Ok it's driving me mad, where are the torso and legs from!? EDIT: it's Erebus isn't it...

Great conversion. Love the eagle shoulder pads, they do work well for EC characters don't they! A maul or staff could work really well. A sword would be fluffy but having the sword on the belt looks so cool that I'd rather you kept the sword there!

Really lovely work!

Couldn't resist the new Blackstar model, I like the fact it looked somewhat different from the flying bricks of the Space Marines, kind of reminded me of the old Stormbird art, which I'll be seeking to emulate soon.....

Took the beastie into the local GW to show the Mgr the kit; it still isn't finished, i've got to glue it together for starters, i'm magnetising the missile pods to allow for swop outs, i've got heat blooms to add to the engines (I'll do the Xiphon's at the same time) and lascanon and I probably should chip and weather it, as much as it pains me....

I've probably got a few WIP pics if anyone's interested of the plasticard work before painting! Got a little slack updating my thread of late!

Love the Corvus blackstar - you beat me to it!! I have one that I'm planning on de-inquisitorifying and making into a civilian armoured cargo freighter for combat environments. Needless to say it'll be used as a combat flyer for most situations but one that is used as surprise attack!

I would be VERY interested in seeming plasticard work to see how you covered all the inq symbols!

Thanks guys!

It is actually quite a bit smaller than I expected, I was a little disappointed that there was not pilot with it, can't help but feel it should have been a bit more like the Valkyrie it. That said, I think it does look pretty cool, and it stands apart from existing flyers --- I might have to bling up some more plastic flyers....

Hopefully these will help you out

The wing pieces were cut to shape and then filled to try to get a reasonably flat surface. The top was covered with wide strip styrene at the sides. The very top was thin plasticard with the joins hidden by half round styrene rods, I've then added bits of various IG kits to make the flat area more interesting.

Nice work on the wing panels, I'm going to try and keep the top hatch access for the swappable options. I'm imagining it'll be pretty tough! Picked the kit up a few days back but not had a chance to fiddle. I have a feeling it'll take a long long time!!

I really wanted to keep the top missile launcher and the bolters, however try as I might I couldn't - I tried an idea with mesh and styrene to make a rear engine grill, had it been straight I reckon it would have worked!! I would suggest perhaps filling in the script on the top, then giving it a good sanding. You could perhaps then add the styrene to the sides. Maybe i'll do another one some day... I was trying to rush it out, as I wanted to be one of the first to convert it....

Haha! I know that feeling - the second kizz mentioned doing the slaughter priest my heart sank!! Must hobby faster!

I'm on a zero day on Monday so will sit down with a large coffee and some styrene and give it a go!!
