I've been somewhat remiss on this thread, the excitement of the Tale of 20 Hobbyists distracting me somewhat!

 

I've been keeping this little project on the sly.... but it's been in the pipeline for some time, and I've been discussing it on and off with Grieux who's been building his recently. He pipped me to it, stealing my thunder so to speak.

 

Behold 10th Captain Saul Tarvitz, Honour of his Legion.

 

As today is my birthday I feel it only appropriate to share this bad boy with you fine people!

 

As a treat to myself (and after several efforts to sculpt hair) I commissioned Den of Imagination to finish off and paint my conversion based on Loken. Somewhat annoyingly I had to reset-glaze the purple armour myself several times to get it to match my existing scheme, it took a lot of guts (partly overcome due to annoyance, but hey ho!!) but I'm finally pleased with it. I also think I am not far off achieving such results myself having seen him in the flesh...

Just finished off the base, again to tie it in with my own stuff, quite pleased with it now!!

Glad you like him! I really wanted to make him look like the various Art works flying around the place; what can I say, I spent too much time playing drop assault....

 

That's a nice oshifer of the economy...but damn that pink...*sunglasses*

 

Looking at the exposures, I think the lighting has made him look a little pinker than he should be.... Oh well, if you are going to wear pink, at least do it properly.....

For those who don't already know I enlisted myself in the crazy task that is the Tale of 20 Hobbyists, one of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time.... Then you realise that you'd pledged 4000pts....eekkk!

 

Rather than spam the board with too many duplicate posts, I figured try and put more of my WIP stuff here, rather than the hobby thread.

 

I purchased a Deredeo from Kurama and promised i'd immortalise him in Iron Form, so behold Ancient Kurama.

As you can see, I've used ball bearings and bevel magnets to allow for a multi poseable monstrosity; taking what i did with the plastic contemptor to another level.

 

My plan, is put some subtle hints that there is something rotten with the goodly Dred, after all it is Kurama, and we all know what happens when the EC go off on a bender..... At the moment, he just has the brass etch and I'll finish off the scroll work, as shown just placed on the chassis in one of the pics. I don't want to go full Slaaneshi on him, as it is early corruption, so I was thinking maybe some Lodge symbol, or some Dark Eldar barbs etc... If anyone has any ideas?

 

What's the view on the studded leg? I can easily do the other one to match. Do the studs look properly proportioned?

 

I am also pondering the head... what do think of these options

I would definitely go with option 1, I think the existing contemptor head is stunning. Option 2 if considering to turn to slanesh... my 2 cents...

Awesome work brother Ancient Kurama is coming along quite nicely. I think the studs are brilliant Idk why it never struck me to just use larger beads for larger armour I may just end up doing something similar on Ancient Prometheus. As for the helmet I've gotta echo everyone else I think it depends on your level of corruption. Super early stages go helmet #1 otherwise I'd say #2 for anything beyond that it definitely has the "I like to party" kinda feel and #3 just looks too IW I think. just my two cents though keep up the awesome work I can't wait to see paint on this fella.

Thanks for the comments guys, good to get some input.

 

As is my way, I’ve kind of ignored the plan with the painting I set myself for the tale of hobbyist, but you really need to go with the flow. As you can see, Ancient Kurama is coming along nicely, credit to Kizzdougs as I’ve kind of ripped off his Deredeo. I am thinking I will magnetise the head and go for two options, the EC head and a ‘Kakophoni’ head! I have actually decided I quite like a different head… so if anyone has this and wants to trade, please PM me.

I’ve added some etched brass and put some studs on the other leg. I’ve got the scrollwork attached and have filled the gaps where I’ve stuck the pressmoulded scroll. I’ve also tidied up a few of the joints around the magnets and ball joints.

It’ll be fun to get some paint on this bad boy!! Still looking for a a few ideas to make him a little more deviant

 

I have however got some pink down on the Speeder and Praetor, in addition to some more tactical marines!

Great stuff, I must commend the head selection ;-), how have you made the "studs" on the legs? I must say will all of the conversion this is the first "deredeo" I really like, I must confess that I initially greatly dislike the model.

Well as is my way, I completely avoid painting what I should be painting this week, good job I’ve only actually pledged 3 things over in the Tale of 20 Hobbyists...….

 

Anyway, I decided to do my damnedest to get an Armies on Parade entry on the go (yes, in between building 4k of EC!!), using my ETL stuff and my proposed 10 man tac squad!! 

 

This is what the board looked like on Thursday….

Here it was by Friday afternoon; quite enjoyed the building of the terrain, takes me back to making Elf towers from pringle tubes….. The worst part of this was waiting for stuff to dry, and painting the bloody Shrine of the Aquilla to go with it ….. Sadly no WIPS of that, as it was a literal paint as fast as you can thing…..

I kind of blitzed through the tacticals, alas 10men in a few days was a bit much, I reckon I could have got 8 done, if I’d rushed them, but with the board and the shrine I was losing the will to live! So I got 5 done to a standard I was happy with, and have 3 more almost done. Here’s a bit of WIP action.

I did indeed get the board finished, and army more or less sorted. Couldn’t get the termies based and I need to re-do them in any event…. So we have 1 Xiphon, 1 Blackstar (Storm Eagle), 5 Tac Support, 5 Tacticals, 1 Apothecary and patient, 1  Contemptor,1 Rhino, 1 Sicaran, led by Saul Tarvitz….

Ended up 3rd, somewhat appropriate given the Legions.... Have to say I'm a little miffed I didn't place higher, I thought myself a lot better than the 2nd place, both interns of effort on the board, quality of painting etc... Oh well, I've been shown to be imperfect and must now fall on my sword.....

I’ve been plodding along with my tactical squad… you know the one I thought I’d just do in a couple of days for AoP!! The good news here though is that I’ve managed to get 4 more done to the point of basing; so the squad will now sit at 9! The Sgt is causing me grief, think I need to do something else with him, not quite sure the pose works…..I’ll post him later…. As I’ll have to go take more photos!!

I am thinking I’ll do the knee pads white on the Apothecary, as it’ll break up the pink, I better find out where I put the vials for his belt!!

Well I've made a little progress on my latest apothecary,

 

This is inspired by Obscura's use of Kakophoni, my take on 'Otiartes' Von Kalda from the Path of Heaven; he hasn't quite gone bad yet, but you can see the rot has started....

Still a little more work, I mean a base would help... He's glossy due to varnish for the transfers and oil wash, so i'll tone it down soon.

Von Kalda was an Apothecary of the Emperor's Children during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. A follower of Fabius Bile and Eidolon's Equerry, following the fall of the Legion on Isstvan III Von Kalda began to explore the limits of torture, mutilation, and Daemonic rituals.

 

My take on him here is he is still nominally loyal, but perhaps the rot has started.....
