Betrayal at Calth: Conversions and Ideas for the New Box

During the lead up to the release of this box, a few people expressed a wish to see a thread where everyone can share their conversions and ideas for conversions to provide some inspiration, encouragement and help for those who wish to do likewise.

I said I would be happy to start a thread up (so hopefully there is not one already - I couldn't see one here) as I am new to the Heresy myself and have many plans for the new kits.

So, without further ado, please post your creations using these new plastic models...

(And remember, a conversion can range from a bit of weapons swapping to a total re-sculpt so anyone is welcome here, regardless of where they think their skill level is. Hopefully with a bit of encouragement we can all try some new ideas)

Here are a couple of mine to start:

Word Bearers Praetor with Combi-Plasma and Paragon Blade

Legion Cataphractii with Plasma Blaster and Lightning Claw

Excellent looking troops! The Praetor's weapon looks very menacing devil.gif.

If I may: how did you go about switching the Praetor's Chainfist? Was it an in-depth hack job or was it a simple cut at the wrist and shaving away of parts?

I honestly don't know why I'm worried but information is always nice happy.png!

Cheers Mehman! :D

I wouldn't say in-depth, but it was a bit of a hack job - I wanted to replace the whole arm at first but would have required a lot of resculpting due to the way the parts join. So I just cut the arm away just past the elbow and replaced it with a similar part cut from the Cataphractii Sprue. Did have to shave some bits away to get a clean cut though - I started with the piping, then the Chainfist, then his hand, then the rest of the arm. It was also a bit of effort to make sure the arms re-joined nicely but nothing some filing couldn't solve.

I would say not to worry, but it was more work than I had anticipated as I did not realise how awkward that arm would be. All pretty basic stuff though so even for a pretty basic converter like myself it was easy, just a bit fiddly and I would take your time/make sure you tidy it up after or it looks off.

I created this chaplain using the pieces taken from the old resin Dark Apostle, Minotaur's chaplain,  and Kurtha Sedd.  I'm debating adding more purity seal type stuff and some chains.  Maybe swap the head of the crosius for a spare Erebus one that I have laying around.  All I think it came out fairly well thus far.

This thread is a great idea, and will be a big help to me once my box arrives methinks. Look forward to seeing what I can make of BaC. All these figures look fantastic! Like the RG conversion and paint job a lot Nusquam

Here are some conversions for my Night Lords

Librarian, using Grey Knight head, Stave and hand.  Would be appropriate to give him either Telepathy to terrify and control his foes or Divination to see into the future like his Primarch.

Praetor with Paragon blade

Praetor hackjob, was pretty easy to get the power sword from the Terminator kit to work, but care is required to get it right.

Sudden inspiration: Would the DV Chaplain backpack+cloak fit on the Calth Chaplain?

Right, now that's out of the way, my plan is to use the Shattered Legion rules to represent a force made up of members of otherwise loyal Legions that have turned traitor. I've randomised the colour schemes, except for the Contemptor which I've decided will be a Space Wolf.

Converted the Chaplain into a suitable night lord, and had a go at changing the multi melta on the contemptor into a las. Also found out it is easy to change the pose of the legs, to make it slightly more running

Did a little weapon modding and a repose. A cut across the midsection was easy enough to swivel the dread to make it a little more dynamic. The saving grace about the awkward fist is that you can utilize the shoulder and 'elbow bracket' to cheat the KAC into the socket with a little bit of whitteling

KBA, how did you manage to get the KAC on the left arm? I'm trying to get a duel KAC (since I bought two boxes) but I am not sure where to cut on the arms to move the KAC over.

Alright, I'll try my best to explain:

1. Grab the power fist arm and glue it together. Snip the joint (the circle with nuts) in half. Throw the fist into the bits box.

2. Carefully start to hollow the rest of the circle joint out. You could also drill it. I found whitteling away at the plastic, keeping the curved 'end/receiver' of the arm just below the shoulder intact.

3. Grab the KAC and glue it together. Snip the arm in half this time just above the circle joint, right at the 'end/reciecer' you just spent a bunch of time carefully saving, hollowing out on the previous arm. Snip and whittle until the circle joint is exposed and ready to fit into the other piece.

4. Test fit it, it will take some more whitteling on either piece to get a nice fit.

5. Find an angle you want for the gun and glue.
