What WB Chapter to choose?

Soooo guys - help me choose my chapter ^.^
The Unspeaking
Led by the so-called "Crimson Apostle" Zardu Layak, it was said that the Word Bearers of the Unspeaking Chapter were warrior-sages to match any others, stilling their tongues with proud oaths of silence. To honour their masters, the Unspeaking's oath-sworn serfs would ritually mutilate and remove their tongues. This Chapter was wiped out during the Underworld War that took place after the end of the formal Battle of Calth. It was known that the Unspeaking had largely retreated from the planet's surface during the final hours of the war, and would go on to further infamy in the Shadow Crusade.

Serrated Sun Chapter
The Serrated Sun Chapter's iconography is that of a golden sun, centered on a black lozenge, on a field of maroon. The Serrated Suns Chapter accompanied Lorgar during his Pilgrimage. The Serrated Suns was ultimately lost to the predations of the first Imperial expedition known to ever enter the chaotic eddies of the Eye of Terror and treat with the Ruinous Powers and their daemonic servants directly some forty standard years before the start of the Horus Heresy. The survivors of the Serrated Sun would become the infamous Gal Vorbak, the first known Possessed Chaos Space Marines. The Serrated Sun Chapter's specialty was tactical drop strikes.

Graven Star Chapter
During the Battle of Calth, the Chapter of the Graven Star is recorded as operating in strength but, as before the Horus Heresy, it was noted that this chapter had made a speciality of boarding actions and gunship-carried assaults. It was known that the Graven Star Chapter had largely retreated from the planet's surface during the final hours of the war, and would go on to further infamy in the Shadow Crusade. The Graven Star Chapter's badge was the Octed or Star of Chaos.

Zardu Layak was The Unspeaking, Argel Tal & the Gal Vorbak were Serrated Sun and Hol Beloth was Graven Star (which also specialised in Armoured Spearhead warfare on Calth).

Which character do you like most out of the 3 of them? :)

That won't help, as I like all of them, and will paint and use all of them haha xD

Col.hertford has a valid point about the Graven Star and me loving Zone Mortalis though ...

well the serrated sun is going to be done by every donkey who wants Argal tal and Gal Vorback so nix them.

The unspeaking have the coolest iconography of all three but they are reported as annihilated at calth if that bothers you well...

the graven star seems really cool especially if you like ZM. my vote goes for these guys

They actually make it off world - p105, Tempest. The scene where they are 'wiped out' in Mark of Calth is a dream/vision sequence given by a daemon.

Oh ok cool I don't have tempest yet sorry well that changes there only problem (if it was a problem personally I like a little fluff twisting) I could change my vote then if you want to go really chaosy do the unspeaking there chapter symbol is wicked and Zardu is pretty cool

Well, I made a few +/- points:

The Unspeaking:

+ already pretty warped/chaotic appearance

+ favour Ashen Circle and Destroyers

+ they were on Calth and survived

- not sure if the transfers are that usable on black shoulderpads?

The Serrated Sun:

+ Argel Tals chapter!

+ love their symbol

- got all wiped out on Istvaan (and reformed into the Concecrated Iron), so not that "usable" for the Shadow Crusade/Calth

The Graven Star:

+ Boarding Actions, and Zone Mortalis!

+ Tanks!

+ M'kar - if only to see him die on the battlefield

+ they were on Calth and survived

On top of that:

- I'll do all the special characters, independently what i choose as "main chapter"

well, I'll probably do the Graven Star since they fit with Zone Mortalis and i can add tanks later on :)

At Calth, the Gal Vorbak are spread throughout the force, and then you end up getting the Unburdened who are all over Calth according to Censure. Not to mention Erebus had two who served a bodyguard role in Unremembered Empire, although those two were killed. So plenty of room for Possessed beyond the original 40 Gal Vorbak.

Hmm, I have to admit curiosity at how the Unspeaking got off Calth. So far only M'Kar and Erebus have done that and they went through warp portals.

I'm really surprised at the Graven Star surviving since Graham McNeill nuked them in Calth That Was.

I think I would probably go for the Unspeaking. Cool symbol, Ashen Circle and Destroyers, and they have a life expectancy following Calth. Oh, and they aren't the Serrated Suns, who are way too mainstream.

Didn't the Serrated Suns get wiped out at Isstvan? Its successor Vakrah Jal/Chapter of Consecrated Iron get my vote. (And since they were formed from the survivors of the Drop Site Massacre, you have the freedom to use multiple symbols in the same army.)

Not exactly. After Istvaan V, the surviving Gal Vorbak all went their separate ways. The Vakrah Jal were a new Chapter created by Argel Tal with officers and Legionnaires from all over the Legion. Presumably, some of them would have been converted to becoming Gal Vorbak. If it remained intact after Argel Tal's murder.

As a result, it is unclear what happened to the actual Chapter of the Serrated Sun since it was rebuilt after the Pilgrimage.

But Gal Vorbaks are damn cool and apparently they are getting a right of war in the next book

Yeah, none of the special units and special characters are an issue, there were alot of Gal Vorbak and Mara Ghals @ Calth^^

No matter what choice you make, my Ultramarines will hunt you down ;-)

no worries Ishagu, the 4th (edit. or the first? the 22nd? ahhhhhhhhhhhhh >.<) will march too ...
