Thank you all for the kind feedback, and yes, army shots will come when I have better natural light (maybe this weekend).  I have some more progress to share:

Alrack Demogorgnn, Tallyman of Clan Morragul

We are the witnesses of his final day.  His final minute.  His final breath.  We are the witnesses of his betrayal and his murder.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/20/772424_md-.JPG

We watched as his blood gushed out onto the black sands and stained them crimson.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/20/772427_md-.JPG

It trickled down from where he had fallen and pooled at our feet.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/20/772426_md-.JPG

We bore witness to the slaughter of our father and our brothers, and for this, we vow our embittered, unending vengeance.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/20/772425_md-.JPG

No bolter shall stay our wrath.  No blade shall lay us low.  No heathen, verminous traitor shall take our lives.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/20/772428_md-.JPG

For we are already dead.

In other words, my MotL model is... complete!

Well, I've finished up my vows for the 30k hobby challenge:

GORGONS:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/24/773330_md-.JPG

I've just taken close ups of the newly painted models for obvious reasons.  But, while I'm here, I may as well show off some assorted bits of sculpting/building that have been going on in Squig's lair:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/20/772431_md-.JPG

More sculpting for the first dreadnought, including the graviton guns.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/20/772432_md-.JPG

Chain, as well as the obsessive changing of the combi-bolter to my preferred variant.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/1/20/772433_md-.JPG

And, last but not least, something truly beautiful.

I've rejigged my contemptor a bit:

++We were wedged between a wall of broken-backed Spartan carcasses and a wave of the Twelfth when he came.  The Eaters were at us, a swarming mass of despoilers barking and waving chainaxes above their heads, smothered in viscera.  We fired as much as we could before they hit us, although we managed to blast back some.  We drew out combat blades – the Eaters cared nothing for themselves, we could see that.  As they swung, overextending themselves with the force of their charge, we were able to dispatch more, stabbing them in weak spots in their armour.  It was not nearly enough – they were overwhelming us quickly.  Soon, only four of our original sixteen stood.  Our sergeant had fallen; I couldn’t make out details through the mass of bodies.

The he crested the hill.  We all turned, and we took the opportunity to scramble back from the despoilers.  At first, he looked like simply another of Angron’s madmen; armour battered, paint chipping off and blackened by fire, dripping with blood, having torn off his own helm to reveal his pale, creased and snarling face.  Then we spotted symbols, claws and ‘x’s scattered across his carapace.  The Eaters turned back to us briefly, one swinging a chainaxe into Heshan’s chest, who had been too slow to escape their reach, before vaulting over the assorted dead and darting towards the cover of a crater.  The Dreadnought did not change pace, simply stalking after them and picking them off one by one with his Kheres.

Heshan was screaming over the vox.  The axe had chewed into his flesh, leaving a gash that spanned the breadth of his chest.  Even through the gap in the power armour, we could see the wound was deep.  He would not have lived.  We pleaded to him, I remember.  Called out to him, begging him to help us to safety, bring Heshan back to the impromptu command post that our group of survivors had set up.  He did not turn to look at us.  The screaming grew louder, then was cut off by a high whine, a blast and a flash of light.  When our eyes adjusted, a hole had been bored through Heshan’s faceplate, and the dreadnought’s plasma blaster was raised.  And, at that, he broke out into a wordless, loping run, clattering towards where Angron’s Twelfth had fled.  That was the last we saw of him, our broken saviour.++

Looking purty as usual, Swarmlord!  Anyways, I have made some progress on my vows for this month:

Servos jammed or rusting.  I am failing.  Too much time awake; the darkness spreads, worming and slithering across my vision, plunging its claws into my skin and dragging me downwards.  Back to sleep.

Only, I know that I cannot sleep.  I am never again to hibernate.  I have no time for such a luxury, nor do any others have the time to indulge me.  Claws clogged with blood.  I know that soon, perhaps even in the coming week, my circuits will fuse, break beyond repair.  I have none to help me, nor would I have it any other way.  This black world will play host to my second and final death.

Oil leaks.  Sparks dance through cabling inside my carapace.  It has been fifteen days, seven hours, thirty eight minutes since the Drop Site.  I have sustained thirteen hits from plasma weaponry, five from missiles, two from melta weapons.  All have bored through my armour, into my flesh.  Though my soul is strong, I am in pain.  I have bled on this world for the first time in centuries.

The time I have left in which to live is not enough to reach allied positions.  I have heard whispers that the Raven Lord lives, but that, if it is true, is not to last.  Nothing lasts.  Instead I shall remain here in the depression.  This morning, I detected heat signatures approaching over the horizon.  The patterns of movement displayed indicates a force Olympian in origin.  Let them come.  The darkness is spreading faster now; I would have eventually been killed by failure of life support systems.  Let them come.  They cannot do anything to me other than the inevitable.  Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

The whole time, he barely spoke; muttering single-word answers to any questions I asked.  He did not remove his helmet, those glowing eyes boring into me as I spoke to him.  It was as if he was searching for any weakness, or perhaps intent, sniffing around my thoughts for any oncoming attack.  Even a change in my posture elicited a twitch in his fingers.  His name is Ghorsh, though I have heard that his brother-legionnaires have another name for him.

Marvelous, but don't invest to much time on loyalists of an akternate timeline. You have darker deeds elsewhere to fullfill^^

It emerged first during the Crusade, I believe.  Tyrnen Sarrkul mentioned something during our conversations about it having been used to commemorate the passing of a worthy adversary.  A handprint made in their blood.  A rather morbid tradition, if you ask me, and one that has grown ever more morbid on this blasted planet.  Clan Morragul, as I am sure you’re aware, usually refrains from wearing legion iconography; Mor, grumbling creature that he is, had something against Manus.  But after… you know… the legionnaires have started to adorn themselves with the handprints.  I suppose it must link them with Ferrus’ memory, and the rest of the legion.  The Bloodied Hands, they call themselves now.  And they take a bitter delight to it too, drowning their hands in blood, the donor still living, and daubing it across themselves.  Penance, they say.  Retribution.

Happy to oblige!

Red and metals are very simple, being Mephiston Red washed with Carroumbourg Crimson and Leadbelcher washed with Nuln Oil then highlighted with Mithril Silver respectively.  The black is Warplock Bronze washed with two fairly thick layers of Nuln Oil and highlighted with Dryad Bark.  It comes out looking a sorta bronzy-browny black, but another layer of Nuln Oil makes the look far more subtle and closer to a slightly shiny black that looks metallic under certain light or from certain angles.  Play around with it a little until you get the colour you're looking for.
