Goodwin Joins the Inquisition!

Hello!,

Was hoping for a few tips from some fellow Inquisitors.  I've likely to have this Most Swell of Orders as my primary for my Sisters army, or not, we'll see, but I've been trying to think of neat things to do.  Seems the Sisters are fairly not competitive, and I'm fairly not knowledgeable about the game so I'm trying to be sneaky!

I saw this and was hoping it was as swell as it sounds.  Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

My idea!

Ordos Xenos Inquisitor

3 Servo Skulls

Conversion Beamer

Burner of Worlds

Assuming he'll be riding around in a Repressor so he can shoot out.

My theory is to throw the Servo Skulls on the deployment line of the enemy, or near by.  This should slow down any Scouts.  The Servos run away as soon as someone 'moves' within 6 inches, but I'm not sure, does deployment count as moving?

Either way, in my fantasy, like first turnish I'd be able to launch the Burner of Worlds and the Conversion Beamer with a much lower chance of scattering too far away.  Not much else in the Sisters army I can see that has blast templates, so it'd pretty much be a one shot trick.  It doesn't seem like too many points though?  The Sister Warlord Traits don't seem like I'm giving up much.

Too much dickery for too small payment?

Edit: Maybe one day when I'm well respected Karazmov can tag along and shoot his Orbital Relay too.  That may make it a little more worthwhile?

Welcome to the Inquistion subforum! Looking forward to sharing ideas, tactics, and hobby stuff with you.

As for your idea ... the biggest problem I foresee is that it relies on chance since you don't get to choose "Burner of Worlds" you have to hope that you roll it on the warlord table.

That said, that warlord trait does combine nicely with servo-skulls and I've used to to advantage myself. But it's not something to build a list/strategy around because, for example, in a four game tournament (even with re-rolls for the warlord trait) I only got that trait once.

Karamazov on the other hand is a much more reliable option since he always has the orbital strikes AND more importantly, he gets to use it every turn whereas if you roll it on the warlord table it's a one-shot trick. Also, Karamazov can fire his orbital strike on the move thanks to the Throne of Judgement.

Thanks for the speedy response!

Sorry, forgot to specify!  I'll be doing my first few games in a league, and for it you get to choose your Warlord trait and keep it throughout.  So that should cut down on the chance based nature of it, however, it still does rely on hopefully having an enemy near enough to the Servos to benefit for the Beamer and Burner, but not within 6 inches to scare 'em off!

Edit: Its an Escalation League, so Karazmov won't be accessible just yet.  However, near the final stages I was thinking between him and the Beamer/Burner Inquisitor we should get a lot of bombs dropping.  That does get a little pricey by then though. >.<

Welcome aboard! You're wrong about Sisters though, they may not be one of the top codices but they're far from a push over. Sisters can hit hard even without blast markers, you should visit the cathedral of the B&C to get more help with them there :tu: Conversion beamer is fun, I'd not bother with trying any tricks though as they usually don't last long especially if you rely on luck to get a certain trait.

How much of an Inquisition element are you thinking of including? Just a couple of Inquisitors or will you be looking at henchmen too?

I'd eventually like at least one full unit of henchmen.

I've been toying with ideas of a combat unit and Inq rolling in a sleek black Land Raider, to a  shooty or combat unit flying around in a sleek black Valkyre stealing objectives or just grav chuting to greatness.

I'll try looking around at Army Lists as well to get a feel for what may be working and not.  My ideas were usually plasma or melta squads, though maybe those aren't really necessary with Sisters as my main component and I should look instead towards Psykers and other tricky Inquisition things.

For right now hobby funds are tight, so having an idea of whether either of those are good ideas would also be good.  I don't like proxying so I usually buy/assemble/paint first and then question myself later!

I picked up an Avenger for the gals, so that may benefit or detract from a Valkyre floating around.

Teach me the ways!

Well, Sisters don't have access to plasma, and no one has cheaper plasma than the Inquisition.

My favourite/most fun unit is 3x acolytes with plasma, 1x crusader, 1x psyker, and 1x acolyte with bolter grav-chuting out of a Valkyrie, for example, atlhough there are lots of other combos out there.

Be aware, with the conversion beamer, that you'll not get a heap of shots at the long range option. Even on a full size table, you'll be spending most of your time at the middle range, or even the short range. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, or a reason to not use the Beamer, just something to account for. S6 AP- and S8 AP4 is still quite good, but not a reliable way to kill MEQ or vehicles heavier than a Rhino.

I just realized the Servo Skulls also say the blast/template marker has to be WITHIN 12" of the Skull.  However, since enemies within 6" make it disappear, that's a very small window and may not even be possible since I think within means it has to be entirely inside.  Aw.

I'd say it'd be useful with Burner of Worlds, given it only needs to work /once/.

Plus, at less than the price of a meltabomb, you really can't go wrong. Three of the suckers is less of an investment than two meltabombs. What's not to like?

And as mentioned, the prevention of deployment shenanigans by your opponent is already worth the price of admission without even being able to use them to burn worlds.
