We all see how great Breachers look and the imagery of a line of Space Marines with shields holding back the tide of enemy is iconic and inspiring.

Remember Betrayer? Possibly the best book of the Heresy series so far and the part where the World Eaters assault the Ultramarines thin line of swords and shields was one of the best bits.

We can see that the ray-gun crowd have their own wimpy support group replete with pretty wall paper in the club house and a soft carpet, so I thought "why for the love of the Throne shouldn't we band together?"

Since Breachers are a no nonesense crowd who enjoy butting heads with the enemy, we can be more pragmatic and less frivolous, but I thought it would be nice to see if we can get an idea of numbers in this thread of who would want in on Team Breacher?

Things open for discussion:

- Strategy and Tactics (including Legion variants)

- Army List creation

- Background

- modelling and painting

- lots of pictures please

- Victory reports and notable actions

- home grown variant models and rules (who knows, I might compile them and send them to Forge World ;) )

What I don't want to see is the tired old comments that Breachers are rubbish as a Typhon will just nuke them - any unit is dead against a Typhon and as a Breacher I am too belligerent to take on board your criticism.

So apply here for membership, get your shield out and start cracking skulls for the Emperor or whatever deity you pray to.

I'll come back with another post shortly with some thoughts on Breacher use and how we can better bring belligerent head cracking justice to our enemies.

Any suggestions are welcome.

I have always been a fan of Space Marines with shields. It draws so close to my love for medieval Europe and Arthurian Legend. I was ecstatic about the addition of Boarding Shields back in Badab and the addition of full scale Breachers for Legions has to be one of my absolute favorite things about Horus Heresy, sod off if they aren't the most viable option. I don't care.

The Chapter of the Ruined King may be of the Word Bearers Legion, but they are Siege Specialists and they are chalk full of grizzly veteran Breachers.

Count me in, good sir.

Excellent. Happy to have you aboard, brothers.

I have been thinking about the strengths of Breachers and thought one of the strongest is their position in the army. As a Troops choice, they actually have great value. I mean, sure bolter Marines are great and all, as is Fury of the Legion, but Tactical squads won't be holding out for long against AP3 in assault. Standing on an objective won't count for much when a couple power weapons cut your boys to pieces. Reducing casualties by a 3rd is potentially game winning.

Almost done building my squad of 10 valiant Alpha Legion defenders...with a "modern twist". Obviously the Alpha Legion wouldn't wander around with Mk III for theirs, but a bit more high-tech variants.

A bit expensive, but I used destroyer bodies and Mk VI heads together with the shield set from FW to make mine.

I like the fact that i can use them as compulsory troops for my Couls of the Hydra lists, while still getting the meltas&meltabombs in play for vehicle targetting. A dreadclaw or Dynat to DS them in place, or just their own dedicated transport, scouted or infiltrated to get up into the field.

I see them as perfect for taking out spartans, because whatever is inside will want to charge something, and these boys are perfect for receiving the charge! :)

What about for a made up unit? I did a breacher shield on my TDA praetor and I'm considering doing a squad of TDA breachers for my Dusk Raiders.

Iron hands fanatic once mentioned something about a night Lords specific breacher unit, maybe involving rad/Chem, don't think it ever got finished.

Also you can combine breachers and choom :p

I like how Ultras can sprinkle the unit with power weapons. I hope other Legions get some options like this.

That said, I think Big breacher unit with 3 Grab Guns, tooled up sarge and a tooled up apothecary. With an Automantic Prevase Deredeo by them.

MOVE ME BRO.

Add Rad Grenades as a Legion 14 member for maximum trolling ;)

On something like Siege Tyrants it's pretty crazy, turning a 4++ into 3++. You just become a bunker of resistance.

On breachers it makes you into a 5++, backed up by FNP that's rather hard to shift.

Can you reroll invulns against blasts if you have hardened armour? I imagine not but a man can dream.

^That is indeed the case of models, not units. So it's halfway practical for a small, rock hard bunker for terminators but less practical for a breacher squad. Especially since it necessitates them clumping up into a neat little easily templateable bunch.

In Zone Mortalis where Mass rending is a thing, and blasts are fewer and far between (other than Dreadnought based, things like Quad Mortars don't work(Barrage), and other vehicles struggle with getting line of sight. If Mole Mortars become a thing, then a Rending S5 Blast from out of Line of Sight could be pretty powerful.

Hacing said that, a Deredeo Leviathan tag team has a 3+ Save and an AP2 S7 Blast.

As for use, i'm a fan of RG or AL Infiltrating Breachers, full size with 4 Grav Guns. An 18" range is usually a nono for a heavy weapon without relentless, but infiltrate lets you force your way up the field, tag a vehicle, and potentially kill it, or weaken it, or force an assault unit to on foot to do so throigh difficult and dangerous terrain.

In other armies, a Vigilator gives you Scout and Stealth, as well as another meltabomb and power weapon.

When u was planning my Raven guard I liked the idea of alvarex maun infiltrating with a squad of breachers to secure the dropzone for the second wave

Now I've moved onto night lords I like the idea of them to help hold my objectives whilst other squads attack.

Think it would look cool with trophies dangling from chain draped shields maybe even crucified guys pinned to the squad leaders shield still alive but begging for death as his former allies charge falters at the sight

I'm in too! The first time I saw the Breachers pop up on the FW site I knew I must have at least one unit of those.

For now I have a 15 man strong Iron Hands Breacher unit - actually Immortals, but I want to run them as regular Breachers. They aren't painted up yet, as it will be a project for next year. Maybe I will have some more - but for another legion

Yep! I'll make a square and even smaller one eventually too, so people with lots of sigs can still show how much they love the board and boltgun.
