I've certainly considered Castellax with a Praevian, back when they would have benefited from the legion trait, but since then have all but forgotten them.

Hm, a good shout, there. I can imagine the Tenth lacked respect for the Alpha Legion long before everything went south, but after desecrating a venerable warrior of the legion...

Evening folks,

I’ve managed to finish of the Vorax tonight, lovely models to paint (perhaps not as nice to build), they’ve got me wanting more mechanicum resin!

What do you reckon?

Cool as always! I love glossy doe eyes :D

Thanks mate, you can lose your soul in those eyes.....

Awesome, they bring a nice varied aesthetic to a legion force, and you did a really nice job with them. I never liked them previously, but you've changed my mind somewhat...

I get what you mean about the aesthetic, I think the overall look of the mechanicum has gradually grown on me over time. They’re just so different to the normal 30k stuff, which makes for a great change to painting power armour!

Hey everyone,

These chaps have been sitting on my shelf for a few weeks, thought I would share a few pics before painting gets underway!

I think that lernaeans are built for combat, cataphractii armour, stubborn and an extra attack on the Squad leader (plus one more for a power dagger with his chain fist). They will be transported in a dreadclaw eventually, and tackle heavy armour and perhaps leviathans....

Combi-plasma sniper rifles look great and are a mix up I would never have considered. The Recon marines are really nice sculpts too, I particularly like the running fellow to the left of the shot.

Cheers Pearson, the idea may have been stolen from Kizz.....

The conversions look great so far, looking forward to seeing them completed!!

Thanks, here you go:

How do you do the glaze work for the Alpha Legion color? Sorry if it's buried in this great WIP somewhere.

Krash

No worries, thanks for commenting.

It’s a fairly convoluted process, and it’s changed a little over the years:

1) base coat black

2) Vallejo metallic black

3) Vallejo chain mail

4) Vallejo silver (plata)

5) pin wash nuln oil and lahmian medium 50:50 mix

6) let it dry overnight - other wise the next step could strip the paint.

7) glaze with tamiya clear mix (one part clear green to 9 parts clear blue, thinned with Tamiya x20 thinned 50:50)

8) on larger models glaze the lower portion with clear blue thinned with x20 50:50

9) glaze with guilliman blue, thinned with lahmian medium, pull down the model and avoid pooling.

10) pin wash deep recesses with nuln oil/lahmian medium 50:50

11) wash model with mig Matt lucky varnish (cannot praise this product enough)

12) edge highlight with lothern blue air

Hey, sorry to ask about something so old, but do you remember what the white/black stripe decal sheets you used for your early AL boys were?

Hi, only just noticed this in the thread! I need to update this blog at some point!

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200812486461

The decals are a little thin, so a pain to work with. If I was to do it again, I’d probably free hand the lines and use some chipping medium.

Hope that helps!

Morning everyone,

Well, long time no update! For those of you who don’t make it onto the AoD forum, I’ve been slowly building a loyalist world eater force over the last year or so:

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/363147-last-of-a-ragged-housethe-19th-assault-company/

I’ve finally reached 3k and completed the initial force, so now it’s time to complete the backlog of projects for the Xth and XXth.

There’s a fair few things either completed that I’ve not posted or built. But also a fair few things that need building!

So to kick things off again, how about a Mkiii destroyer squad for clan Vurgaan?

Man, as awesome as the World Eaters were, I've missed your Iron Hands, they've always been a solid source of inspiration and this upload is no exception! Very tempted to follow suit here, the upgrade torso you chose for the sergeant is spot on, I've always thought of that sculpt conveying a really hostile sense of agression and scorn, very fitting for Destroyers of the tenth. The big bulky ammo drum for the missile launcher is a cool touch to differentiate it from a regular weapon.

Thanks Pearson, glad they’re a source of inspiration! I’m trying to catch up with my iron hands first, there’s a mix of tanks and infantry on the bench. Hopefully have some more pics soon.
