Deep in the Segmentum Tempestus there is a small system called Lutum, with a lone planet of the same name. Boasting only a single hive of any note, it would be of little concern were it not for the resources it provides to - in galactic terms - the nearby Forge World of Stygies VIII. As the sole producer of the venerated Vanquisher cannon the importance of this Forge World can not be overstated so even the smallest of contributions is noticed when it ceases...

Skitarii were immediately sent to investigate only to find the worst case imaginable, that under Governor Luars Nadoun the planet had turned from the Emperor's light and he had set himself up as dictator, enjoying the planet's fruits that rightfully belonged the Adeptus Mechanicus. The Skitarii forces would have been captured - or worse - were it not for the appearance of an Inquisitor to spirited them back to Imperial controlled space. Although he didn't give his name, he reported that the heresy of Luars Nadoun had not gone unnoticed by the unblinking eye of the Inquisition and he was already assembling a Crusade to reclaim the system in the name of the Holy God Emperor.

Lutum is the Emperor's, and the Adeptus Mechanicus will have their due once again. The war materials of Stygies VIII must continue to flow at full capacity...

Introduction
Welcome comrades to the new barracks event: Campaigns! These will be one off series of challenges that you may join in as and when you please, the focus is on the shared narrative as much as the modelling and painted and this is also have the different Campaigns will also be linked. Those familiar with Regiments of the B&C will find some similarities but there are numerous differences too so please read on to find out more and as ever if you have any questions let us know.

Campaign Phases
Each Campaign has three phases in the form of three modelling and painting challenges in succession, each running for a month. Once you have pledged to the Campaign you may participate in as many of the phases as you like in any order - there are no prerequisites, you can make a vow even if you failed previous ones.

Pledging to the Campaign
Does your regiment have what it takes to reclaim Lutum? For your first vow you will need to provide the following information:

Regiment Name
Your regiment's official name, along with any nicknames they may have.

Regiment Commander's Name
This is the commander of your regiment's contributing forces. It doesn't have to be the regiment's overall commander, or your avatar - could be a character you make up (or model...) for this particular Campaign. Perhaps he might also lead your forces in future Campaigns..?

As mentioned previously the goal is also to form a narrative which is why we need this information. Maybe we can build up our own barracks alternate history and if we're really lucky some of it might work its way into your regiment's background msn-wink.gif Following on from this there is also a couple of optional extras you can help flesh your regiment out with. Just a little paragraph on each will do:

Regiment Commander Description
A small piece on your man at the top. Maybe he loves armoured assaults and hates Orks? Or perhaps he's incredibly stubborn and would rather die than surrender?

Regiment Type/Method of War
Is it an armoured company, or do they make use of massed artillery? Give a short description on how your regiment's participating forces prefer to make war in the Emperor's name.

Vowing for a Phase
Each phase must be vowed for as it comes in the same way you would normally - each vow is a single unit. Once officially vowed you are taking part in that phase but must re-vow later if you want to do the following ones. There is no cut off date save for the final deadline, you may vow for any phase during its run. Each phase shares the same primary rule of which you will be familiar: Guard models only from any Guard publication using GW, FW, counts as or kit bashing. For clarity; any traitor forces vowed will be "represented" as loyal (if perhaps ramshackle and dubious...) elements of Imperial forces for the purposes of the overall narrative.

Your official vow requires a WIP shot of the model(s)/bits which may be primed ready for painting as well as the total Points value from the appropriate publication you are vowing from. Your vow is only finished when you post a finished vow image stating your vow is complete. Note that unlike Regiments only the model(s) are part of a vow, the backstory part is done when pledging to the Campaign but you are more than welcome to add some fluff to your vow.

The Phases of War
Each campaign has three phases, all being identical save for one difference: the bonus FOC type. You can vow anything you like for each phase, any single unit without any associated limitations - for example a Special Weapons Squad without the rest of the Platoon, or a Chimera with no squad to transport. The phases are as follows:

Phase 1 - Landing and Recon
Bonus FOCs: Troop and Fast Attack

Phase 2 - Pitched Battles and Commando Raids
Bonus FOCs: Troop and Elite

Phase 3 - Sieges and Decisive Battles
Bonus FOCs: HQ, Heavy Support and Lords of War

Completing a vow in an associated bonus FOC selection grants you a bonus to the Points value of your vow. Unlike the ETL the points value isn't a direct competition, instead whoever has the most completed points across all Phases will be installed as the Lord Commander of the Campaign. Success or failure of the Campaign will rest solely on your regiment commander's shoulders, and his deeds of victory (or not) will be forever recorded in the narrative of the Campaign...

Campaign Resolution
Each phase runs for a month in succession, so the Campaign is three months long. Once this time is spent and all phases completed the commissariat will retreat behind closed doors with all the stats and background armed with a good supply of tea, biscuits and steely resolve. The Lord (or Lady) Commander will be calculated and the narrative of the Campaign written up for publication. Whether the Campaign succeeds for fails will depend on the success at the hobby desk, and your own regiment's fate will be decided by your own completions... We can't make any guarantees this will be a quick process but we'll be as fast as we can smile.png

The Narrative
As you might expect we don't have the time to write small novels, instead there will be a variety of pieces written in potentially different ways - on the fate of the Campaign and planet and a piece on each regiment's participation. We're not planning on writing your army background nor killing everyone off, so whether the Campaign's results make their way into your regiment's official background is entirely up to you.

Awards
Of course you can't have a Campaign without shiny trinkets right? msn-wink.gif Everyone who participated will get a sig image, they will be customised to represent your successes and participation in each phase. The Lord Commander will get their own customisation to represent their status as the leader.

FAQ
To clarify a few things, or pre-empt some potential questions here's a few FAQs - if your question isn't answered here please ask below thumbsup.gif

Q: How do I become the Lord (or Lady) Commander of the Campaign?
A: Vow and complete more Points than anyone else! Remember only one vow per phase and one unit per vow, so choose wisely... The bonus value for appropriate FOC choices is currently classified information. In the unlikely event two (or more) vow totals are the same we will let the Dice Gods decide.

Q: Will my regiment be destroyed/commander killed?
A: Your personal success rate dictates their fate - fail all your vows and they probably won't be winning much... We're not planning on writing Game of Thrones but this is the Campaign's narrative not your regiment's so maybe he goes missing during the Campaign but is found safe and well later for example? Of course the best protection is to complete all your vows msn-wink.gif

Q: What level of detail will there be in the write ups?
A: We're not going to be writing lots, but they will be a direct reflection of your vows and we can make use of whatever background you give us. Succeed and your regiment and commander will succeed with you. Vow lots of tanks and they will roll into battle upon them - but that also means they will fail with you... Their fate is in your hands don't let them, the commissariat or the Emperor down!

If you have any questions please let us know, otherwise make your vow soldier - glory waits for no man...

Special thanks to @Brother Chaplain Kage for providing the planet image used!

Good to see vows already, don't forget you only get one vow per phase and that vow can only be a single unit - whether it be a physical one or a single FOC unit so if you're aiming for Lord Commander chose well msn-wink.gif You don't have to choose a Troop or Fast Attack selection, you can vow anything you just won't get the bonus towards the Lord Commander smile.png

I'm not sure what you're asking Henricus - if it's about your vow then only unpainted/primed models are allowed unless you are planning on repainting the model. If you're talking about your regiment's commander for the Campaign then he's there in name form only - you'll only have to paint him if you're pledging him as a vow msn-wink.gif By all means post up a picture of your commander in your WIP if you have a model of him thumbsup.gif

The entrants list has been officially added, along with a participation image to flaunt your heroic deeds to come! I will be making my vow soon biggrin.png

<<INCOMING TRANSMISSION>>

<<DESTINATION: Lutum High Command>>

<<REFERENCE: Astra Militarum Datafile//Paradise 1st Rifles>>

<BEGIN TRANSMISSION>

The Paradise 1st Rifles

Aka: 1st Paradise Freeborn, The Lucky 1st, Katrin’s Own

Regiment History:

The Paradise 1st Rifles were formed from the remnants of two other Imperial Guard Regiments, the Westufolk 63rd Infantry and the 51st Orshire Rifles, along with the hastily conscripted residents of the former penal planet of Arxanos following its fall to Hive Fleet Titan.  When the unexpected arrival of the xenos into the Egisse Sub Sector caught the local defenses off guard what little forces could be scrapped together were sent to stop or at least slow the Tyranid advance.  With the sub-sectors traditional defenders, the Interdictors Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes, forces commitment elsewhere the job would fall to the regiments of the Emperor’s Imperial Guard.  As the first few worlds fell regiments were brought from further abroad, namely the 63rd Westufolk and the 51st Orshire and were sent to fortify the former penal world of Arxanos.  Arxanos had, in its past, served as a dumping ground for those less desirable elements of Imperial society.  Her the convicts would toil away in labour until they died from exhaustion.  Although the exportation of criminals had long since stopped on the world most of the planets inhabitants, either former criminals or the descendants of them, still slaved away under the harsh rule of their Imperial Overseers.  The Imperial Commanders, upon arriving on Arxanos, realised that he didn’t have the numbers needed to stem the Tyranid advance and so gave the inhabitants of the planet a choice; fight for the Emperor and be free of their slavery, or keep living in slavery and die like the cowards they were.  Almost a full 93% of the planets enslaved people agreed to fight.  In fact so many joined that the Imperial Forces were hard pressed to equip them all and so many took to battle with whatever tools they had at hand.  It wasn’t long until the shadow of Titan fell upon the planet.  Fighting desperately and valiantly the planets defenders held on for life.  But for every xeno they slew another two took its place.  The planets fate soon became apparent and as Arxanos’ final defenders prepared to sell their lives dearly, like so many before them, help arrived in the form of the Interdictors.  The news they brought was grim however, the planet was lost and Imperial forces would be evacuated.  When it was suggested that those native to Arxanos would have to remain behind an impassioned speech by Colonel Jonas Vicary, of the Orshire Rifles, swayed the Astartes mind and the decision was made to take all that could fit.  Arxanos was evacuated and then condemned to burn via Exterminatus.  The survivors of the Fall were taken to an unsettled world in the Sub-Sector where they were unceremoniously dumped and the Astartes returned to their fight against Titan.  It was a planet that the survivors would settle upon.  They named it Paradise, despite it being a harsh Death World, as to them it was compared to the horrors unleashed by the Tyranids on Arxanos.  When the Interdictors returned to take the survivors they found a sturdy Imperial colony with a large number of survivors ready to take back to the Emperors wars as the Paradise 1st Rifles.

Commanding Officer:

Colonel Katrin Pendt

Colonel Katrin was one of the many refugee survivors of the Fall of Arxanos.  Born and raised, using the term lightly, in the former penal planets prison slums, known locally as ‘The Sump’, she was one of those whom took up weapon in defense of their homeworld at the arrival of Hive Fleet Titan. Her natural charisma and stead fast nature soon saw her raised to a commanding position before the final seige of the planet and the subsequent evacuation and Exterminatus of the world in the attempt to stem the Hive Fleet.  Along with many others she was quick to answer the call to reform a regiment from those willing and able to fight again.  As the Paradise 1st started to make a name for itself so did the young Katrin, quickly rising through the ranks till she found herself in the position of Colonel.  She is one of only a few officers in the reformed regiment that doesn’t come from the former 63rd or 51st Regiments, a fact that doesn’t sit well with many of those she now outranks.

Katrin, like most of those in the Paradise 1st, is driven by a near obsessive need to prove both her own worth and that of the Regiment.  For those born of Arxanos it is a driving need to prove themselves free of the taint of their forefathers.  For those of the former 63rd and 51st it is the need to make up for their perceived failures.  Whatever the reason it has given the young Colonel and those under her command a perchance for digging in with trench warfare and fighting wars of attrition.  She is given to pushing her men to the limit or even beyond.  Whilst this has often achieved victories on battlefields the regiment might have otherwise conceded it hasn’t come free of cost.  Her victories are soaked in the blood of her soldiers, a fact said to haunt her and drive herself even further.

Regiment Overview:

Although classified as a Rifles Division the First is actually a more mixed group.  Its core is the dedicated and hard bitten guardsmen infantry known to hold the ground at all costs.  This is backed up by elite veterans from both the Westufolk 63rd Infantry and 51st Orshire Rifles supplemented now by the growing number of Arxanos survivors.  The Orshire Rifles, however, were a part Mounted Regiment and this has carried on into the Paradise 1st, with the regiment maintaining a number of rough rider platoons mounted on cybernetically enhanced equines.  The Regiment is known to maintain limited numbers of ordinance weaponry as well as other vehicles but this role is usually filled by more specialised regiments.  Their perchance for trench warfare has meant the Paradise 1st also maintain a small fleet of Hell-Hounds and their variants, as well as a large number of flamers and other trench clearing weaponry.

I, Commissar elmo, hereby pledge the support of the forces of the 711th CCAB under the detachment command of Lt. Colonel Gett,

Officer Commanding 897th Infantry Company, to the reclamation of Lutum in the name of the Emperor. The contribution of one infantry squad (the 112th ) under the command of Sgt Petr including a voxcaster and flamer along with their dedicated transport of a Chimera #190 fitted with a dozer blade, heavy stubber and HK missile at 145pts will do their duty no matter the cost.
Brigade Name: 711th Cadian Combined Arms Brigade
Detachment commander: Lt. Colonel Gett
Lt. Colonel Gett started his career, as all Cadian children do, in the Whiteshields and saw initial action against a heretical cult which had gained a small foothold in the Cadia system but it was only after seeing his parents gunned down during a Chaos attempt to break out from the Cadian Gate did he decide to try for the officer corps and after successfully passing out was granted the rank of Lieutenant. He then had an eventful career which will be expanded upon in the 711th Cadian Combined Arms Brigade - History and Characters thread ending up with his current rank of Lt. Colonel and command of the 897th Infantry Company, attached to the 711th CCAB.
The 711th CCAB is a mixed arms unit comprising of the 897th Infantry Company and their support vehicles, the 975th Armoured Battalion, the 201st Artillery Regiment (a mixed platform force), remnants of the 661st Air Support Squadron unit and a small force of Elysians and Vostroyan Firstborn.
They are currently deployed to Eridanus Tertiary fighting the Greenskins but Lt. Colonel Gett and a small force where en-route when the Administratum requested aid in the battle against the heretical forces on Lutum. It was too late to re-equip so they will be fighting in the currently issued chocochip pattern fatigues and tan/green vehicle scheme and have been trained in desert fighting and survival.

Oh wait, one unit? Since I'll be running them as Chimera squads at some point, I won't be blobbing them, so does that make my vow illegal?

No problems, your vow is legal - an infantry platoon is a valid FOC slot and you are vowing a partial platoon so it comes under the same rules as if you where just vowing a Chimera for an infantry/veteran squad.

The Cadian 710th Mechanized:

Regimental Nickname: "The Desert Jackals" or "Dune Hogs"

Regimental Motto: (Can't think of one yet)

Current Commanding Officer: Colonel Caelia Vandar, sometimes referred to by her troops as "Ironhart"

Colonel Caelia Vandar is regarded as one of the youngest female regimental officers in all of Cadia's history, at 27 standard Terran years old. Many fellow regimental commanders look down upon her, but she has more than earned her rank in the months since she took command. The fateful Atrion IV Campaign took its toll, seeing the regiment's strength scythed in half. Now, six months later, she rebuilt and retrained the regiment to its full complement, and she eagerly awaits deployment to the next warzone, a world called Lutum.

Regimental Quirks: The 710th is organized fairly differently than other Cadian mechanized regiments.

The main body of the regiment is composed of two different kinds of companies; Strike Companies; and Aegis Companies:

"Strike" Companies: Mechanized companies whose tactics are a sudden, overwhelming bumrush into enemy territory. Usually small in size, but comprises the most experienced Guardsmen the regiment has. 10 Companies: 1,490 Men, 130 Vehicles

          -I Company, "Sabre"

          -II Company, "Claymore"

          -III Company, "Gladius"

          -IV Company, "Scimitar"

          -V Company, "Glaive"

          -VI Company, "Rapier"

          -VII Company, "Scythe"

          -VIII Company, "Estoc"

          -IX Company, "Lance"

          -X Company, "Falcata"

"Aegis" Companies: Mechanized infantry companies whose tactics are to move in behind the Strike Companies, and mop up any remaining resistance. Less elite than the Strike Companies. 5 Companies: 1,330 Men, 125 Vehicles

          -XI Company, "Shield"

          -XII Company, "Bulwark"

          -XIII Company, "Bastion"

          -XIV Company, "Stronghold"

          -XV Company, "Citadel"

The remainder of the regiment is several permanently attached units, including an amoured company, and artillery company, a Kasrkin company, and support elements.

Armoured Company: 10 Vehicles, 60 Men

            -XVI Company, "Paladins"

Artillery Company: 10 Vehicles, 44 Men

            -XVII Company, "Thunder"

Recon Company: 94 Men

            -XVIII Company, "Spectres”

Reserves, Indoctrination, Punishment (RIP) Company:

            -XIX Company, "Rest In Peace"

Kasrkin Company: 53 Men, 4 Vehicles

            -XX Company, "Executioners"

Headquarters and Supply (H&S) Company: 457 Men, 19 Vehicles

            -XXI Company, "Brains"

Welcome to the battle Guilloom. My codex AM shows that the Special Weapons squad consists of 6 Guardsmen (no Sgt) and you only get 3 special weapons and does not allow them camocloaks. Can you please confirm if you are using a different codex or if I am just having a weekend moment ;)

We are fighting against a dictatorial turncoat Governor, Luars Nadoun, and his forces.

Nice, the entrants list has been updated. Here is my additional background:

Regiment

The 144th is a regiment that never sits idle, when not in battle they are training for the next. Their old ways of war, demanding that they be capable in all forms of warfare, is a demanding one so the merest slip in preparation could spell disaster in the galactic wars they partake in. Whatever the foe, wherever the battle the 144th must be ready for victory is the only acceptable outcome. As the ancient saying of Arukan goes: "a thousand deaths before dishonour" and the 144th take their traditions very seriously for to admit defeat is to blaspheme against the Emperor...

Lord Commander Firionel

Reserved, speaking little more than necessary and with carefully picked words Firionel is much the same as any other Arukani. Armed with a formidable knowledge of warfare and the running of an army he is the same as any other Arukani officer too, raised as they are from birth to lead. This is enough to prime him for success, for the Arukani nobles no of nothing but war yet for all this Firionel stands heads and shoulders above his peers in accomplishment. To those that have no knowledge or experiences with the man it could appear as luck but those that have served closely with him know it is something simple, yet significant.

These men and women learn in time that his gift is the humble understanding of hearts; to inspire others to great feats is easy for him, to know someone's worth takes only a moment. In doing this he lets others achieve their potential and can surround himself with the most talented and capable of support. To those that know Firionel his regular statements that victory is earned by those under his command is understood to not be the modesty of a man who dislikes attention but also the truth as he sees it. The powerful patron of the Arukani surely knows him better than any, so those who know are in little doubt that the 144th's status as the Inquisitor Lord's preferred regiment is as much for Firionel's talents as the regiment's.

I just bought a sentinel with an aim to make a vow for phase 1. Is it acceptable to post the sprues/box and/or receipt as 'WIP' for vow? I may not be able to assemble it until this weekend.

Also, fluff is being worked on. I have the regiment name & a few ideas of background, but need to flesh it out. Should post by Friday.

Sprues are a valid WIP shot yes :) You don't have to do fluff, just the regiment and commander names are mandatory the rest is a bonus :tu:

Excellent to hear. I know fluff is a bonus, but to me it feels mandatory. ;)
