Although I do not have pics, there's two very simple solutions.

1- You'll need to trim the round bit off the top of a Terminator torso, be very careful not to damage it. Them trim the lugs off the inside of the BT upgrade torso front and test fit it to a Terminator torso back. You will find a very small amount of trimming/shaving with a hobby knife will produce an acceptable fit. Before gluing, trim the PA torso, the two little nubs beside the head which match up to the rear of the torso.

Now position and glue the round bit you cut off the Terminator torso at the start.

2- Buy and de-angelify the Dark Angel Terminator Knight torsos.

Cheers,

Jono

I haven't found any other examples yet, specifically a tutorial I remember :/

I'm going to pick up a box of death wing knights and take a whack at Templar-ification... So yeah that'll eventually get posted up...

Marshall Matt. did you ever paint those terminators you posted in that thread based on the death wing kit?

I started one... :P

I am easily distracted. I moved onto the chaplain biker for our event, and am currently batch-re-painting around 20 crusaders to try and get a decent tabletop level for a whole playable army, finally. Maybe I can finish one of them off, just for an example.

Cool step by step pictures, how's your french?

Nice find - that's very similar to the one I was remembering. I actually might have a go at this at some point - I have some tabard torsos and some old termies that I was considering turning into tactical variants. They would look better this way, provided I can dismember them easily enough.

I think I got the key info (plus the pictures are pretty clear) but I doubt anyone would complain if you have the spare time ;)

If you do knock together a post, maybe it would be worth popping it into the resources thread for future reference?

This tutorial is inspired by the work of Nicolas Fournel on the old GW website and archived here : http://www.thargannis.com/Hobby/Modelisme/termi/tutotermi.htm

The objective is to convert standard terminators into BT terminators using the BT upgrade sprue to achieve the following results :

gallery_83433_11634_19521.jpg

Stage 1 : fitting the tabard on the back

  • Cut the arched part from the orginal torso : gallery_83433_11634_11421.jpg
  • On the back, cut or file off the rounded bits highlighted in yellow to ensure a flush connection with the new torso gallery_83433_11634_6793.jpg
  • File off the top and back of the tactical torso until they are completely flat gallery_83433_11634_11446.jpg
  • Assemble the three parts, starting with the arched piece then the torso gallery_83433_11634_11119.jpg

Stage 2 : fitting the legs

  • The tactical torso isn't flush with the back of the terminator body, it is necessary to modify the groin section of the legs to obtain a good fit gallery_83433_11634_10768.jpg
  • Cut off the front half of the leg connection and file off part of the groin as necessary gallery_83433_11634_11079.jpg

Stage 3 : assemble the full model

and paint as fitting

I did a little work on the sgt yesterday. It's such a scruffy WIP that I didn't want to post it :tongue.:

I'll try and finish him today and get a pic up.

As always, I can see a few errors thanks to the photo zoom, will try and correct them later. Still, this is broadly what I was aiming for with the kitbash so pretty happy. Also I would say this is the least dynamic pose from the squad - there's nothing wrong with it, but the others are all much much more 'action-y' than this fella.

  • 2 weeks later...

nice.  i see some GK bits in there...  i could use the helms for sure....

i've been terribly busy out side of the hobby as always...  this is as far as ive gone...

swordbrethren terminator front

ive scrubbed off most of the DA icons... ive left a lot of swords icons which i can justify as they are "Sword Brethren"  but thats still up for debate for me...

man some of those were rough to take off...  i'm thinking the first on the left will be used for my Marshall (with burning sword and SS or SE)

i'll be cleaning off the storm shields and using some of the Vehicle icons to create my Templar storm shields...

Since this thread got brought back to my attention, here's the result of both techniques (DA robes and converted BT tabards) in the same squad :

As far as I am concerned, I believe they blend fairly well.
