The Singing Nails, a Legio XII Project Log

Dry fitted the various armor plates on to see how my white and blue balance was working out...I still need to do the highlights on the white and blue, but i'm digging it so far. Now i need to figure out some decals...i'm debating between putting a whole maw on the left chest, then a bigger maw on the right shin...or a bigger maw, split in half with a half on each chest piece, then some smaller iconography going down just the side of the one of the shins.

Things are getting serious now...just have the lance, banners, and some odds and ends to do. You may notice his left chest plate is missing, i royally screwed up the decal on it and have to throw it in a jar of simple green, lol.

I've also given him a name, Celerem Venator, piloted by Talos Tal, known as the night spear.

Detail Shots
I really liked how the red power conduits contrast with the rest of the model. I think the view from the back is my favorite angle. The mechanicum cog is done in legion colors to show his adaption by the world eaters.

This was my first attempt at anything close to freehand. I painted over the legion decal as a sort of callback to the mechanicum symbol with this inverted colors.

Some detail on the ion gauntlet. I did this a super lazy way with drybrushing but it actually turned out pretty nice.

Some detail on the carapace. I may add a few decals later but for now i'm happy with the clean white.

That Knight is looking fabulous indeed! I particularly like the heraldry you have created from all of those World Eaters decals.

I do think you'll need to convert a model to put inside the cockpit to represent the pilot, though. ASAP ;)

Why not build one yourself, though? That would be the far more characterful approach, plus it's really fun to envision the pilot as an individual like that. I've done the same for my traitor Knight, and it was one of the best parts of the project, really.

Hmm, i haven dived into real conversion work yet but i think that would be fun.  I'm not sure where i'd get started...any seated model i suppose?

Well, the good news is that you already have a complete cockpit, so most of the work is already taken care off ;)

As for a sitting model, there are many different options, of course: A sentinel pilot or a driver from the Taurox driver would be a great start -- but then you can basically use most of the "human" sized legs (IG, AdMech, Tempestus Scions) to create a sitting position. If you want a classic Knight-pilot/Titan princeps look, a Tempestus Scion or Skitarii torso might work best, combined with some IG arms. There are really so many options that you can basically build any kind of pilot you like at this point.

Here's mine, converted from IG and Tempestus Scion parts, some legs from the Dreamforge Games Eisenkern Stormtroopers and a FW Space Marine Praetor head:
