Good man. Means I don't have to bother learning how to use that rubbish.

So the rest is just strategic spraying of Tamiya clears and smoke and stuff?

I need to see this on a Vehicle. Can't find this scheme looking decent on a vehicle anywhere.

Update Time!

Here’s my first painted marine. I was running around my neighborhood trying to find good lighting to show off the IH scheme but it’s still hard to appreciate in the photos:

I have four more that are currently in the first few stages of painting and I have also built three more veterans bringing the total to nine:

I am currently working on my rendition of Medusan Immortals and the final member of the veteran squad

@SalvationOfReason: Thanks man!

@Frostmourne: Yeah the rest of the scheme is more or less what has been put down by forgeworld. Here’s a good guide to it: http://m-k-painting-studio.blogspot.com/2015/02/iron-hands-armour-guide.html I essentially followed that but used Vallejo silver instead of the Tamiya colors. I’ll be painting a dreadnought soon so I guess you can check it out then but captainblow has done a version of the scheme on some larger models so definitely check those out: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/318305-captains-heresy-log-word-bearers-herald-wip-p2/

@Big Bad Squig: Thanks! It’s a fun one to fiddle with.

@Ironwrought Huw: Thanks man! I remember seeing some Hammerchoominators you did a while back, when are we going to see them painted??

@Jud Cottrell: Wow thank you!

The positive response to my Iron Hands endeavor has been truly uplifting. Thanks everyone for your comments and likes!

Looks great, he definitely looks pissed

Good, he is very pissed! Thanks man!

Amazing work! I want to do something similar to my alpha effrit squad. Did you use Vallejo steel or gun metal?

Thanks bud! Vallejo model air silver, I hope your veterans work out well!

Damn two updates in two days, I'm on fire. I have a wip of my first Medusan Immortal! He is significantly bulkier than my normal marines and has some samurai like armor plates thrown in their for good measure. I am planning to base my army around the new immortal right of war so I will be making quite a few more soon.

(Pose is subject to change, he is also getting a volkite charger when they arrive in the mail).

Comparison shot, God that normal marine looks so strange to me now haha. Notice the bulk difference between the two veterans on the left and the Immortal on the right

Thanks guys and gals! Questions and comments are always welcome

I have a fever, and the only prescription is more breachers!

The new IH right of war fits with the theme of my army superbly and I am planning quite a few more Immortals in this style.

In other news I am currently painting the veteran squad I posted before and am trying to figure out how to make my second character: Adox Ra. I’ll post a full bio when he’s done, but I assure you he’s very interesting!

I also started converting some Raging Heroes Reapers into rogue female Solar Auxilia as a present for my girlfriend. This has been rather interesting as they are much smaller than my Astartes and require a bit of conversion work to curb their exaggerated physiques. I become incredibly frustrated with miniature companies that produce over sexualized renditions of female soldiers and so a lot of what Raging Heroes makes really throws me off. However their Iron Empire line does this to a significantly lesser extent and has some fantastic miniatures and art direction. I can see the possibility of making some awesome Sororites or Sisters of Silence from their stuff!

Astonishing work – the wall of Immortals looks fantastic, and the paintwork on the chaps earlier in the page is great. The Solar Auxilia looks good too – the tattered hood and missing arm combined the with the noir-photography reminds me of Karl Kopinski artwork :)

More paint, please – I've always loved the Xth, and you're really doing something very special with them.

I am continuously overwhelmed with all of the kind support the people of BaC have afforded me!

Responses:

Thank you! Your chaps have been a guiding influence in the production of my Iron Tenth, and getting your approval has been one of the highlights in creating this army. I am a big fan of Kopinski, thanks for the compliment! I am working on painting a few more now so don't worry I'll post it soon.

Brother Pheidias

Thanks man, I think I may start calling it biggerizing now haha

Thousand Eyes

Thanks! The vow is coming together slowly so I'm not sure I'll make it haha

HeritorA

Thanks!

Also to whom ever it may concern I'll be at Warhammer World April 14 due to a family vacation. I won't be taking any of my guys with me but If anyone wants to meet up and drink and talk 30k I'm definitely down!

Small update today. I would like to introduce you all to Adox Ra, the de facto leader of The Immortals:

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/178835-img-8380/'>gallery_84811_11476_532745.jpg

His right hand is drawing a sword (hard to tell from the pictures) and I have yet to build his arm yet so pretend it’s there for now :smile.:

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/178834-img-8379/'>gallery_84811_11476_537131.jpg

Adox Ra was some what of an anomaly amongst the captains of the Tenth in that his induction into the Astartes never fully eroded his innate humanity. Over his hundred years of service to the Great Crusade, Ra came to despise the heavy handedness of warfare during this era and learned to see the practices of the crusade as disgustingly genocidal. Even so, he performed his duty and became a strategist worthy of the Emperor’s grace. He did so not for the ideals of the Crusade, but instead to keep his brothers safe. This too however would erode in his mind until he was ready to walk away from the Imperium entirely. In a vital battle during a latter year of the Crusade, Ra hesitated in his command and only retained victory at a great cost. He was subsequently removed from command and relegated to the Medusan Immortals until death won back his honor. Then came the Heresy. Ra was present at the massacre of his Legion on Istvaan V and pulled Varan Rakor from the wreckage of a spartan and eventually to safety and off the planet. Now Ra leads a band of once Iron Hand legionnaires as they fight through the galaxy avenging brothers lost. Ra knows this war is futile like the Great Crusade before it, but he still desires to keep his brothers safe and will strive to secure that end until they finally meet the annihilation that took so many from them.

I crafted Ra with no helmet crest and few adornments to represent the dejected nature of his command and added the hood as a means to express his shame in being what he sees as a monster. Ra was never meant to be a warrior yet tragically that is all he knows. In this he stands as the direct opposite of Varan Rakor (he’s the cataphractii on page 1) who is a paragon of the fighting spirit. In game Ra will be a Praevian presiding over a couple of darkfire Castallax.

I am almost done with painting half of the veteran squad (I’m so slow at painting haha), you will see them shortly! Thanks everybody!

Look guys I painted something!!

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/180501-img-8427/'>gallery_84811_11476_465774.jpg

I still have five more of these veterans to paint but I think they are turning out pretty well so far! I’m experimenting with the amount of dust on their legs, tell me what you all think. Here is a picture in different lighting, hopefully it captures some of the color range this beautiful FW scheme holds:

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/180502-img-8429/'>gallery_84811_11476_1252565.jpg

I am particularly fond of this guy:

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/180495-img-8425/'>gallery_84811_11476_300094.jpg

His armor just seems so ancient and knightly, it reminds me of the old rogue trader art for some reason.

Also here is Adox Ra with his arm in place:

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/gallery/image/180504-img-8385/'>gallery_84811_11476_811000.jpg

I am currently working on some true scale cataphractii and a display base for them and Varen Rakor. This little project will be titled “Last of Their Kind” in reference to the fact they are members of clan Avernii and survivors of Istvaan V.

I leave for England on Saturday and will be at Warhammer world next week. I am very excited to see all of the awesome displays and pick up some new resin :)

Questions and comments are always welcome, thanks for looking!

So cool – the paintjob really finishes off the great conversion work, and the dust/weathering adds a hint of colour without compromising the starkness of the scheme. In fact, my only criticism is that it's making me want to build some Xth Legionaries!

Looking forward to hearing more about the true-scale Cataphractii; I'm giving some a go at the moment (for the Officia Monstrosa), so would love to compare notes.
