How did CA2019 invalidate your list? I am not seeing what's illegal about it ... I guess I missed something in CA2019 :huh.:

EDIT: Or do you just mean that it is now significantly less than 500 pts?

The edit ;) CA points drops are all very nice but when you have a limited amount of models it can be frustrating. My full Custodes collection started at 2000pts and incrementally drops each chapter approved so I need to keep mucking about with it :P

Indeed, I was thinking I was going to be within reach of it once the recent squad was done then suddenly I wasn't :laugh.: However as mentioned the changes are very appropriate and welcome so it's a good thing :smile.: Besides not like I wasn't going to be adding models anyway, this just means I need to add them sooner for gaming :tongue.:

I'm focusing heavily on my Daemons currently but I'm considering grabbing that box of Stormies before too long as a break project. I'm thinking that a Tempestor Prime is first on the list, but I'm not sure if I'll need a Command Squad at least yet so I might do the other four as standard troopers or perhaps alternate special weapons?

Next squad of Stormtroopers up:

A Tempestor will follow. Aside from adding some standard hotshot troopers as planned this also neatly updates my Inquisitorial 500pts:

Now with the Tempestor:

I may look to GS the coat a bit later today so I expect to prime them tomorrow :smile.: Regarding the list I think I'll move one of the GLs to this squad, may as well spread it around a bit and have the other squad be the higher priority for the two specials.

Stormies are coming along nicely:

gallery_30308_10604_62389.jpg

Should get them finished tomorrow, only a few things left albeit a bit more time consuming for the detail involved. Then the Tempestor Prime follow  For the eagle eyed I have adjusted the red so it's a not as dark, and hoping I don't regret this decisions as I repaint the 15 models I've already finished :laugh.:

Once these are all done I have four more Stormies to assemble, I'll need to review but plan is to fill potential gaps as I'm planning to run four squads most of the time so alternate weapons and squad sizes will be nice. Then I have a couple of Taurox Primes :D

Finally have a proper Stormtrooper HQ :smile.:

gallery_30308_10604_55912.jpg

I confess I was never sold on the overcoat originally but added it so he would stand out next to troopers but now it's all painted I'm really glad I did :smile.: It inspired me to add a little lore for them:

The Inquisitor Lord [REDACTED] knew he had found an unpolished gem of the highest raw quality when he stumbled across Arukan. Not content to draw their great clans into mighty regiments of the Imperial Guard he saw too an opportunity to fill a particular need of his own. Formed in secret along with the clan regiments, what was first a simple regimental number would turn into a name in its own right - not the 501st Arukan, but simply "the 501".

The 501 intentionally distance themselves from their cousin regiments, for they do not live in the same galaxy. Not for them the glory of great wars against His foes, or heroic defence of His domain. Instead they function as a lightning reaction force, ready to despatch at a moment's notice to wherever their lord needs to do whatever he demands. From the seemingly innocuous escort to the most daring of Kill Team missions they carry all out as if the Imperium's survival hinged on the result.

To the line regiments of Arukan the 501 are a question they know better than to seek the answer to. While their obvious talent is highly respected and appreciated - not least when the Stormtroopers of the 501st provide vital covert assistance - their complete and utter disregard for anything other than the mission is confusing and sets them ill at ease. Without honour, what is a soldier?

To the 501 the opinion of others counts for nothing. They have no need for honour; there is only duty for they are not soldiers but tools. Their relentless pursuit of victory no matter the cost has won them a string of improbable victories, most never known to anyone other than the regiment and the Inquisitor Lord himself. How many times have entire systems - or perhaps more - been saved by their timely actions? The 501 care little, for victory is all they want and duty all the reward needed.

For those who don't remember - and given it has been a while that is probably everyone - I was repainting the red on my Stormies so it wasn't quite as dark. That's now finished :)

gallery_30308_10604_52337.jpeg

Better late than never? Since I was there I thought a shot of all the painted Inquisition models was a good idea also:

Maybe GW will give the Inquisition a nice rules update, but I don't think we'll see anything until at least the middle of next year.

I've yet to get them all on the table together. I've not really explored the Inquisition's options in depth as I'm still working my way into 9th Ed and games are few and far between for the unfortunately obvious reason :sad.: However now I have a decent start to my Stormie force the Inquisition has more options that I can start exploring soon hopefully :smile.: Plus outside of the Stormies I've always approached my Inquisitorial elements with one focus only: what is cool? :laugh.::sweat:

I did get a 500pts game in with the Stormies and Greyfax (aside from 5 men, all their first game!) which I will be writing up a batrep for this week, so that's a start. The Inquisition has seemingly only lost options as time has gone on, and given we're far from their heyday that needs no further embellishment, so I think they work best as an addition to another army. While Stormies aren't much better off they are a natural fit that I can't resist :smile.: This is easier said at smaller point values though.

I'd really like your approach to it :)
i'm going for a crusade kind of thing with my inquisition + guard but haven't been able to come up with a cool army list yet, as if i use the inquisitor in the same detachment of the guard i lose the acolytes and daemonhost (i'm kind of a radical, you see XD) but if i use the guard as a patrol detachment and the inquisition as an allied vanguard detachment (the elites one) i gain access to the acolytes but lose the few command points i'd get :/

On the modeling aspect i agree a lot. it's always better to go for what one likes the most (thats why my guardsmen are necromunda orlocks XD)

The Inquisition is second to none when it comes to variety and choice :smile.: Necromunda has been producing a lot of models that would be perfect with little to no change even. I really like the Credo or whatever her name is but need to ask myself if I need another Inquisitor model :laugh.: I'm a little busy with other projects currently, but when I get some clear decks I will look at the newer models and see what might serve Him in other ways :tongue.:

I am hoping that when the Inquisition is finally given some attention the detachment issue is resolved somehow. I'm not sure how, but it is a bit silly to count including a meagre and ineffective Inquisitorial detachment with anything else. Hope for the best, expect the worst :laugh.:

The vile and perfidious Eldar dare to tread upon the Emperor's world and claim it is their own by some ridiculous "Maiden world" argument. What nonsense, and naturally the Inquisition can't be fooled by their tricks. However with only Inquisitor Helena and a contingent of Stormtroopers and officers can they protect His planet from the xenos machinations?

Deployment

This is my first Stormtrooper list, but thanks to the barracks I am more than familiar with how they work. With the threat of the Wraithlord and risk from all the anti-infantry fire power present it's an easy decision to hold my plasma and melta squads in reserve to gravchute in to try and take out the Wraithlord, along with the Tempestor Prime to help with orders. The question is can they get the opportunity to do so, but I'm hoping my 24" Hotshots can help there.

gallery_30308_10077_121893.jpg

The plan is therefore straight forward: hold off the xenos as long as possible until the hammer blow can be struck!

gallery_30308_10077_8974.jpg

Turn 1

Luck is against the noble forces of the Inquisition as the alien takes first turn, advancing swiftly with their trickery and laying down fire but only a single Stormtrooper is lost as they hold their defences waiting for reinforcements.

gallery_30308_10077_65482.jpg

This is a good start, but that Wraithlord is far too close and needs to die if any hope of victory is to be had so without delay the rest of the Stormtroopers arrive and prepare to unleash His wrath.

The Prime issues orders, and I spend some Command Points to give the melta squad the best shot at doing the damage - and the are well spent for the Emperor's hand guides his faithful servants and the Wraithlord is slagged! This is obviously a game changer, so if I can start thinning the Guardians out I can break cover and try and finish the job. It's not quite so easy though as witchery and Stratagems make them quite durable but I can take three down.

gallery_30308_10077_74175.jpg

Turn 2

Now I have the momentum my opponent needs to take it back, so the evil xenos move up to lay down more fire and witch powers. Unfortunately my denies struggled and I'm not stopping much from happening.

Fortunately for all the shooting it doesn't achieve too much, with the +1 save Stratagem earning it's place in every turn so far so I'm thinking that things are looking positive and I have a good opportunity to build a lead my opponent is unlikely to counter.

gallery_30308_10077_158417.jpg

That means it's make or break time, so I send all my forces up to engage the enemy and try and crush them. Some great Smites followed by thunderous hotshot volleys do a fine job, I make good use of Stratagems and Orders to ensure the job is as good as it can be. The top squad is badly reduced and finished off in combat, and I just manage to eke out the last wound to destroy the bottom squad leaving me free to charge the Farseer.

gallery_30308_10077_118727.jpg

Turn 3

Combat went well on the charge as I could inflict damage without taking any in return, this is further compounded by psychic might dominating the Eldar and blocking all attempts at powers. With yet more boosted saves the Stormtroopers hold. No further help is needed as they can do the job themselves; a Tempestor's chainsword cuts down the xenos witch to bring victory!

An auspicious game as a lot of my models were new, including Helena for her first outing! Fitting then that she helped the troops hold against the alien onslaught and then drive them back :tongue.: The Wraithlord was not a small deal in 500pts so it worked out well that I had the tools for the job, something Stormies are good at. Perhaps it was the right sort of list for mine to go up against, I wasn't expecting great things when I made it but so the game goes. It's what helps keep it interesting

The last of the Stormies are on the hobby desk:

gallery_30308_10604_45234.jpeg

Shouldn't take too long to finish them. I'm thinking that the next Inquisition project should be an acolyte or two, but I'm busy with other army projects currently. Such one off models make for good break projects in between though so I'll see what the future holds :)
