2000pts Iron Hands using Rite of War: Armoured Breakthrough

Been attempting some variations on a list using the new Rite of War: Armoured Breakthrough. The gist of the Rite is:

Pros

- Pred Squadrons with autocannons are Troops (must fill compulsory slots), Sicarans can be Elites

- You may take a HQ choice of a Pred or Sicaran which gets some modest buffs

- All HP3 or lower vehicles are FAST

Cons

- All infantry units must be transported in tanks, dedicated if possible

- Limited quantities of Flyers or Skimmers

- No Fortifications or Immobile units

Additionally I'm using the squadron update for Vindicators from Retribution.

HQ

Castrmen Orth (80pts)

Rides in the Sicaran; Warlord

Praetor + Bike, Iron halo, Cyber familiar, Paragon blade, Melta bombs (195pts)

Elites

Sicaran Battle Tank + Lascannon sponsons, Armoured ceramite, Dozer blade (200pts)

Troops

Predator Squadron; 2 tanks + Lascannon sponsons, Blessed Autosimulacras, Dozer blades (260pts)

Predator Squadron; 2 tanks + Lascannon sponsons, Blessed Autosimulacras, Dozer blades (260pts)

Fast Attack

Outrider Squadron; 5 bikes inc. Sergeant + 2 power weapons (185pts)

Heavy Support

Predator Squadron; 3 tanks + Magna-melta's, Lascannon sponsons, Machine spirits, Dozer blades (570pts)

Vindicator Squadron; 2 tanks + Dozer blades (250pts)

Total = 2000pts

So, every vehicle in the army is fast. The Predator squadron with melta's also has Machine Spirits so not they not only move 12" and fire all 3 weapons, but the Magna-melta's could switch targets, too. I was very tempted to use jetbikes, but I liked the idea of wheels on the ground for reasons of personal taste. I thought adding Blessed Autosimulacra to the Troops squadrons might help them hold out a bit longer. It may be better not to use squadrons perhaps?

Someone on Heresy30k mentioned that this RoW may not need a Praetor to unlock...

I don't recall reading anything like that, but if we can get away with just using Orth in a Sicaran whilst still unlocking the RoW then that would be awesome!

That seems very odd - surely you need something with Master of the Legion to get a Rite of War?

It's wishful thinking on their part. There's nothing about not needing a Master of the Legion character to take it. It specifically mentioned the rule at the beginning of the Rites section of the book.

What book is this Rite of War frome? I had no idea there was one where I could take Tanks as Troops!

Book Six: Retribution. I picked up a copy at the Weekender (but missed out on the updated Legion book). There's a new Rite for each Legion, 2 for each of the new Legions (BA, WS & DA) and a good quantity of generic ones. You should go check out the Weekender thread.

I believe you also need either a Sicaran or Predator to fill your compulsory HQ. This becomes the Warlord & gains the Command Tank rule (IIRC). That can easily be fixed by shifting the Sicaran from Elites to HQ.

Other than that, and the need for an infantry squad, it looks good. Might I suggest switching out the Praetor & Outriders for a Delegatus and unit of Tactical Veterans in a Rhino? You may need to still shave some points for that, though.

@raeho: you do not have to pay any extra points for the HQ Sicaran.

The HQ sicaran is optional, but becomes the Warlord if taken. He does not grant you RoW access.

Ag, I must have mis-read that. Thanks.

In that case, I would just suggest a Delegatus & Veteran squad as escort in order to unlock the ROW.
