army of dark compliance

  • primary detachment is made up of any units from legion crusade or the militia/cult army list
  • must contain at least a single praetor or centurion (including consuls) and they are the warlord
  • must be traitors
  • may not use rites of war
  • legiones astartes rules do not carry over to militia
  • units are counted as being from the same army list, so may share transports benefit from warlord traits .etc
  • may not have more unit choices from legions than militia.
  • may not take a discipline cadre (that's what the marines are for)
  • legion astartes gain +1 to cover saves if shot at through a militia unit, however said unit takes D3 wounds with no AP value
  • any militia unit may take the 'disposable' rule for free (don't confer victory points for being killed) but are no longer scoring.

Anyone got any further clarity on how this list works? Quite intrigued but looking for detail around how the provenances work, ie; can you still take any and all of them?

Until the new book becomes available and I can order it I'm looking for a kind soul who can shed some light to begin planning to roll two armies into one!

Garro on heresy30k confirmed you have access to the entirety of the army lists under a single FOC, meaning provenances as long as you take a Force Commander.

I myself am interested in an Iron Warriors list with artillery carriages! ...either that, or a cult horde/tainted flesh Levi horde to absorb the enemies firepower as the warriors advance! :laugh.:

Excellent! I was hoping this was the case but didn't want to get my hopes up too much. Now to work out some power armoured, power weapon wielding Ogryns as bodyguards for some HQs!

This is definately a rework of tyrants legion. I think this could be really fun

The astartes still have to be the warlord though, which might be limiting for anyone wanting to make 'thunder warrior' AP3 ogryns

Well one can still take the Force Commander for provenances, I assume, so not the end of the world.

This is really quite nice timing, I was reading the Titan Tactica and how the Warhound needs shielding with ablative wounds.

Cue Warhound surrounded by abhuman zealot/tainted flesh inducted levy swarms while World Eater Land Raiders and Storm Eagles zip around the board :biggrin.:

Just some question about rules- do I have to take everything on a 1:1 ratio or just infantry units and so on?

So if I take a praetor, a thudd gun, a contemptor, a sicaran and a heavy support squad, will I have to take 5 levy squads for example or only 1 levy squad as the only true unit/squad I have is the heavy support squad?

240 points on 6 levy squads holding objectives isn't asked to much for. Shooting at them is a total waste but you can't ignore them either. You haven't have to pay a blank marine squads tax of 300 points to get them on top of this.

And you can stuff marines into an arvus if you want to. Hihi.

.

My read on this is it says "have more units..." With no specification of infantry. So you would need five or more milita units above. Doesn't matter that you have 1 artillery unit, 1 vehicle unit etc etc. they are units so they need a counterpart.

The more I look at this the more I feel like it's the natural home for Fanius Bile. Been waiting to fins somewhere for him to call home!

Zardu, Daemon Force Commander for Genecrafted Cult Horde, Level 2 Alpha Psyker, allied detachment of Tzeench daemons.

Fill in heavy support with Malcadors and maybe a deredeo. Fill in Elites with Gal Vorbak and rapiers. Fill in troops with Dark Channeling Ashen Circle and inducted Levy squads who are S4 I4 Zealots. Shell them with fire while hordes eat bullets, and the summon train gets going.

How do Primarchs work with this?

Would love to take one with it but you have to take a Preator/ Cent/Consol to be your warlord... I know the FAQ touched on this but not sure how it works here.

Does it mean I have to take a consul, but also can take a Primarch and he succeeds the Consol as the warlord?

Not sure tbh. Good question.

Would be cool to take primarchs in a massed squad of pimped Ogryn in your vehicle of choice to romp across the board though.

I'd be tempted to say you can take a Primarch...

Since the FAQ specifically says a Primarch can always overrule any provision that says another model must be warlord, I fail to see how the AoDC rules could limit their inclusion.

Yeah that is my thinking too! Plus it's not like i'm skipping a Tax.

Zardu, Daemon Force Commander for Genecrafted Cult Horde, Level 2 Alpha Psyker, ...

Well, you're using the Army of Dark Compliance as your Primary Detachment, so you'll still have to adhere to the 'Charismatic Leadership' rule.

Which leaves you with Zardu, the force commander, plus either a WB centurion or chaplain consul. No room for a lvl. 2 alpha psyker.

There's also the issue that using an army of Dark Compliance requires your opponent's permission, which is a problem at competitive events and also is a swift kick to the nutts of trying to make a broken good build using them.

Having no Rites of War is a serious drag too, since they offer a number of creative ways to customize each Legion. Being allowed to combine multiple legions and Warp Cults into a single army is interesting though... I wonder what neat themed builds could come out of this?

Asking for opponents permission at competitive events is asking your tournament organiser. No dffierent than relics, or variant FoC's. Just ask beforehand, rather than turning up on the day and suddenly found out you've been dumped without playing and given your opponent a free bye.

Allies don't allow units to ride in Transports, and the ability to take a ton of Infantry units that do not give up VP's when necessary, in exchange for scoring/denial.

Also, Scouting Ogryn's in a Spartan with 4 S7 AP2 attacks on the charge, and 3 T5 3+/5++ Saves in CC with Hatred thanks to attached Chaplain.

Other than the cover save bonus, which is situational at best, what does Dark Compliance give us that an Allied Detachment does not?

Troop spots filled by 80 pt levies instead of tactical squads

As a WB, you get legion forces, cult, and daemons in one list

Fluff up the wazoo

So looking at how you can add the disposable rule to any Militia unit; Disposable Stormhammers anyone? No-risk super heavy tank (unless it blows up next to your whole army).

Disposable militia artillery battery...And may as well take an astartes artillery battery too.

Levy troops to gum up the bad guys. I like tainted flesh and abhumans helots.

Then with that module you can affix an astartes force designed around disposing of the enemy, a Spartan death star, rhino rushing shooty guys, flyers etc. Whichever method suits your flavour.

The plan for my Death Guard and their levy is to use the human hordes and heavy guns to pin the enemy in place to enable a mobile astartes element the time and space to complete their objectives.
