The Bitterness of Iron (Praetor Conversion pg.4)

More boring wip pictures, since I haven't had time to paint so far this week. Anyway, hopefully I'll be able to get more done soon. For now though, enjoy a half built breacher sergeant... slowly improving my converting skills to add more variety and personality to the plastics.

More dull WIP pics. Teasers, really. I'm waiting until this project is complete before revealing it, because I'm very happy with how it's coming along... feel free to speculate haha.

Greetings comrades, it has been a momentous day. Not only have I painted another breacher marine, I've also finally finished one of the projects I've been working on. I've attempted to create some simple bases which I've now moulded so that I can cast them, making it hopefully easier to base models in the future. The results aren't perfect, first time trying something like this, but they're serviceable enough that I am satisfied. The style is a little different from my previous bases, but I think they will blend ok. We shall see.

I've also decided to try and start fleshing out the vague fluff I have for my force. I have some ideas around their story, and how and why they stayed loyal. It's been a while since I've written anything, so pretty rusty. Need to read more 30k fluff so I am more sure of my terms.

Anyway, without further ado...

--Depicted here is Legionary Vaul Petrov, veteran marine from breacher squad Varrix. Legionary Petrov distinguished himself during the defence of Megaraxes in the early days of the Heresy, taking part in a number of vital actions alongside the rest of his squad, including the massacre at the Heraclean Gate. During the desperate escape from Megaraxes, Petrov was part of the remnant of Squad Varrix who took part in the boarding of the Ferrum Ira.--

Thanks Bernard! Much appreciated. I enjoy painting metallics a lot, so IWs are proving a lot of fun to paint.

Another WIP of the Sicaran. Still chipping away at it. Got a bit left to do, but nearing done.

Thanks!

So, recent events have inspired me to get back into my IWs. Of all my hobby projects, this is one of my favourites, I just love them so much, even in I only work in fits and starts.

I put a bit of effort into planning out, and purchasing parts for, a scratchbuilt Zone Mortalis board last year. I finished a single 12" tile and wasn't feeling terribly satisfied, despite the effort that went into it. Then a week ago I attended Cancon here in Aus, and happened across a laser cut terrain set that was exactly what I had been looking for, but thought no one made. Wish I could have saved a couple hundred bucks on the other gear I bought, but oh well, it's worth it. Only painted a single length of wall so far as a test, but I have a few more lengths in progress as we speak, and I'm incredibly happy with the look I'm achieving. Hopefully people aren't put off by the colour...

Anyway, here's some random plebs I started tonight who are partly finished...

Now, the final picture is of my intended Praetor with paragon blade. I'm pretty happy with the model, but I'm concerned it isn't 'heroic' enough. I'm not a fan of hero models encrusted with detail, but any suggestions for things I should add to the model would be appreciated. I like this guy and want to get him right! On that note, holy wow the tartaros termis are a beautiful kit. Vastly superior to the already good cataphracts.

Feedback and suggestions welcome!

Oh look, I'm painting a thing.

Did a couple hours work on these today. Got the silver done, pteruges are proving time consuming. I wasn't sure if I liked how they were coming along, so I painted one model's loincloth more or less to completion... I think it looks ok. Feedback?

Also I changed my painting setup and now everything is a mess atm...

I have a rough 1500pt list worked out, so my goal is to work towards completing that before buying too much more (wishful thinking probably).

Thanks mate! Yeah, the ZM colours are inspired by industrial machinery and buildings. Something different to the normal steel and beige.

Knocked over the rest of the pteruges and cingulum tonight, man it was a slog. My fault for choosing a method that is probably more detailed than it needs to be. Just the brass left, then hazards and details.

More progress on the Tyranthikos squad. Slowly getting there. It's been a really long week and I haven't had much time/energy, but I plan on knocking these over on the weekend.

Shoulder hazards are blocked in, debating adding them to other areas. Right kneepad? Thoughts?
