Recommended Posts

That Loken conversion is beautiful. It is definitely swaying me in choosing BA for my legion allies. Really digging your style :smile.:

Agreed!

Thanks guys!

Don't worry terminatrAM, there is more red coming, of the praetor-y flavour

Would anyone be interested in a step-by-step tutorial for the Blood Angels?

I'd be very interested!

Yes, please! Especially the gold, it looks great with the red without being too bling-y.

Good morning everyone!

Thanks for the great responses :smile.: ! Currently I'm leaning towards options 2 and 3, but I'll wait until the Mk V helm arrives and then I'll make a final judgement^^
For the Alpha Legion Praetor, I'm waiting on some plasticard sheets with diamond imprint as I want to make Zone Mortalis bases.
But now, as promised, I give you one of my Blood Angels Praetors. Enjoy!

Seraph Antael, the Reaver of Badram, 6th Company “The Final Verdict”

"Each battle that passes rings you inwardly with memory and strength. Wield your heart, and the world will tremble."

-Antael to Lazav, as the latter was crowned Supreme-Seraph

Antael, proud son of Baal, was Lazav’s second-in command, serving as his right hand in war and peace alike. At his side rests his trusted sword Mortis, a paragon blade born in the dark ages of Terra, which he wields with unparalleled ferocity and precision. As it befits a son of Sanguinius, his armour is a work of art. The wing upon the left pauldron is fashioned out of gleaming marble; the deep red ceramite is emblazoned with pure gold and the winged skull above his head has been bestowed to him by the Lion himself after the Razing of Badram.

This engagement is depicted in various ways upon his warplate; the groinplate bears the grim reaper that Antael was during those days, the skull of the Badramii ruler encased between wings of ivory and, perhaps not quite as obvious, his faceplate. If one were to remove it, one would look upon blackened jaws and charred teeth. Antael was wounded by a Badramii royal guard’s plasma weapon, which burned his lower face away and left him horrendously mutilated. Nevertheless did he survive and kill the ruler of the dissident human pocket-empire. The faceplate was grafted onto his skull and provides him with a way of communication. His recruits jest that not much has changed, as his voice is still as raspy and growling, as it had always been.

Antael has taken  the mantle of his Lord's Aegis , a protector and friend alike. Despite his age and position, he has remained a humble and loyal friend to each and every son of Sanguinius.

Wow guys, thanks for the overwhelming responses!! :biggrin.:

@Olis; Just finished :smile.:

So, here comes the promised tutorial!
http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/pp194/hodoalmir/WP_20160310_019_zpsngcqiq6j.jpg
http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/pp194/hodoalmir/WP_20160310_021_zps5kuizhry.jpg
http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/pp194/hodoalmir/WP_20160310_022_zpsbl83o1rc.jpg
http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/pp194/hodoalmir/WP_20160310_023_zpsxybkifca.jpg
First of all, prime black. Then coat with a 1:1 mix of Abbadon Black and Khorne Red. Drybrush with Khorne Red. Drybrush with 1:1 Khorne red and Blood Red. Drybrush with Blood Red.
VERY VERY IMPORTANT: Use a soft brush! Under no circumstances should you use a brush with hard or sharp bristles! Wash the whole figure with a 2:2:1 Mix of Carroburg Crimson, Agrax Earthshade and Lahmian Medium.

http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/pp194/hodoalmir/WP_20160310_029_zpsdurwakns.jpg
Now, base the gold with Runelord Brass, then layer it with Retributor Armour (Great Colour!) and try to achieve a patchy coat, with a bit brass shimmering through. Wash the gold with a 2:1 mix of Agrax and Lahmian Medium.
Everything black is painted first with Abbadon Black, then drybrushed with Mechanicus Standard Grey. The yellow is based with Iyanden Darksun, then highlighted with Iyanden Darksun and Ceramite White (1:1), then washed with Agrax Earthshade and Lahmian Medium (2:1). Silver is simply Runefang Steel. Aply all transfers now.
Take a sponge and dab it into Runefang Steel, then sponge it onto the miniature. Now wash the whole figure with a 1:1 mix of Nuln Oil and Lahmian Medium.

http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/pp194/hodoalmir/WP_20160310_034_zpsqt8p17gj.jpg
Now come the details. Everything white is based with VGC Ghost Grey, then layered with Ceramite White. Then washed with a mix of Nuln Oil, Drakenhof Nightshade and Lahmian Medium (1:1:3). Everything turquoise (Blood Drops, tassels, jewels etc.) is based with Sotek Green and then faded into Sybarite Green, with a small white drop. Wash with Coelia Green and Lahmian Medium (3:1). The lenses are based with Warpstone Green and highlighted to Moot Green, then washed the same way as the turquoise.
The Base is just multiple coats of sand, PVA glue and smaller rocks. Base with a 1:1 mix of Trollslayer Orange and VGC Earth, then drybrush with Trollslayer Orange and finish with a mix of Trollslayer Orange and Ceramite White (1:1). Wash with Reikland Fleshshade. Add a bit of FW Light Rust Pigment on the base and around the legs.

Voilà, you got yourself a Blood Angel!

As a little bonus, here is a Terminator painted the same way! :biggrin.:

I'm enjoying your work here in this thread, especially the background stories that you have written for your individual squad members in the first post. You method of painting is also interesting with the mix of weathering and brighter accent colors. The terminator above looks outstanding!

Good evening folks!

@Pearson73; Thank you! The initial idea came to me after seeing a beautiful Angron figure, armour in a deep, cracked red and all the tassels painted in deep turquoise.$
@Geostryke;Thank you very much! I have been thinking about doing a larger post concerning more detailed techniques and reasons why I do stuff the way I do. (Would anyone even be interested in that?)

Tonight I bring you two cousins, one a child of Sanguinius, the other born of Curze's ilk. Enjoy!

Veteran Ulyn, Veteran Squad Ulysses, 6th Company "The Final Verdict"

"Run, filthy child of Fulgrim. Run and beg that our light never shines upon you."
-Veteran Ulyn to unnamed Emperor's Child

Ulyn, son of the Pureblood Tribe, was a promising recruit in many ways. A fierce fighter, he mastered hand-to-hand combat with axe, sword, spear and knife, as is expected of every veteran amongst the 6th company. In recent years, the Reclusium and Delegatii-cadre have taken great interest in him, as he has shown a raw talent for oratory. The scroll on his hip indicates, that Ulyn himself might have chosen to side with the Delegatii as he has expressed great distaste for many things concerning chaplaincy, which he views as to deeply rooted in Colchisian tradition. Interestingly enough, much of his armour is richly embossed and decorated, except for his chestplate, which only bears the white winged drop of blood, slathered with blood in this pict-capture. He explains this lack of embellishment as follows: "As my father's son, there can be no greater ornament, no greater pride, than wearing his own sigil above my heart." Ulyn would survive the Siege of Terra, gutting many sons of Fulgrim with Karona, his chosen blade.

Korun Arat, Terror Claw The Dead Eye, The Crimson Sons

"Hard to scream without a tongue, isn't it?"

-Korun to a maimed Vth legion member

Korun, one of the very few hive-born Nostramans of Sariel's Crimson Sons, was the newest addition to The Dead Eye and has still not been awarded with neither the black skull nor the bleeding eyes typical for his brethren. The former is awarded for surviving horrendous battles, poised against all odds. The later is bestowed to those who, in Sariel's mind, have accepted the lessons of brotherhood, trust and loyalties which many of the Nostraman-born, especially those born in the bowels of the hives, fail to learn. Huntmaster Ivus Latam keeps a close eye on him, as neither he nor his Lord will accept any form of treachery and falsehood towards their brethren, doesn't matter if adopted or not.

Korun would not survive Terra. He would be left behind by the retreating Crimson Sons for killing Barras, adopted Salamander and bearer of the black skull. Korun would bleed out his last lifeblood in the mud of the Emperor's domain, pierced by hos brother's bolt shells.

Thought for the day: Never betray your brethren, neither the bloodborn nor the oathbound, for they are the first and last thing you can trust.

------------------------------------------------------

Hope you like it!

VIII: Angelus Lacrimarus

Brother Andreas' neck was cramped. He and his two brethren were seconded to guarding one of the western blast-doors, after engaging with the XIVth legion for several weeks. The templars were tired, their posthuman physique driven to extremes.
What has changed... Andreas found himself asking this very question often. He remembered the XIVth legion, their first iteration hewn from the hard people of Albia, then their second, more feral and yet ever so stoic, hailing from Barbarus. He enjoyed crusading with them, but alas that was no more. Now they were nothing but rotting and shambling carcasses and cruel tyrants. He looked upon his brethren and himself. They were all covered in dirt, grime and dry blood. Their armour was pitted, yellow, white and black blending into a mush of faded colours.
Indeed, much has changed. Where unity once reigned, fratricide now raged. Where good-spirited concurrence once had been,  now was bitter hatred.
"Champion Andreas." Voxed Lucas.
"Speak Brother."
"Why are the lights flickering?"
Indeed, Lucas was right. Andreas had not noticed, but the various lamps were flickering and buzzing.
"I assume that one of the generators in the outer circles was hit. Do not-" A screeching noise, like daggers drawn across walls echoed through the hallway. "Be vigilant brothers!"
The templars assumed battle-stance. Though they were tired, they would not fail in their duty.
Then, as Andreas' lids closed for the fragment of a second, it appeared.
A beast of hulking ceramite and brass. One hand encased in a humongous claw, the other clasping an astartes-sized hammer. The armour was daubed in midnight blue with painted lightning strikes arcing across the scarred plates. A son of Curze, Andreas thought, Why is he all alone here?
The light fizzed out again and reappeared, no longer than the merest of a moment, quicker than the auto-senses in Andreas' helm could adapt.
The Night Lord had crossed almost half the distance between them, without even making a sound. The champion was startled. How? The armour alone should have made it impossible to move so quickly. Not even the Tartaros-armoured units amongst his company were that fast.
"For the Emperor" Lucas bellowed, advancing towards the beast. His sword was stopped by the massive hammer, the glowing claw crunching through his warplate. The enemy moved fast, as if the cataphractus-suit weighed nothing. Then the light went out again.
Now it was Cain's turn to scream. Andreas did not see how his remaining brother died, but he saw his crushed body beneath the Night Lord's foot.
Andreas' body was failing him, he was paralyzed. Who was this beast? Who was this Astartes that moved between blinks?
His brain was misfiring, battling between retreating and attacking. Then he blinked again.
As he opened his eyes, Andreas found himself staring into black lenses. The Night Lord's helm was fashioned into a vampyre's skull. Tears of blood ran down the cheek-bones, as if the eyes were gouged out.
Then and only then, did the intruder make a sound.
"Do not blink."
The light went out.

Thanks for the kind words guys! :)

I'll be uploading colour pics of the Night Lord in a few hours, had to finish one or two things on him first.

@ThePsycho; Haha, that was the initial inspiration^^

@Black Cohort; Thanks man, I do agree with your sentiment on the BW photos. I find them also very helpful with writing fluff!

With some kind of background the BW photos would be great for "low grade pic captures" showing the marines in action.

Lord Sariel, The Angelus Lacrimarus, Duskwalker, Praetor of the Crimson Sons

"His victims often beg for their death, rather than their life. He denies them both."

                                                                                                                    -Primus-Medicus Hvar Talram

Lord Sariel, born into the Helvetian technocracy, was one of the first children to be mass-inducted into the legion following the success of the VIIIth Legion Project.  Sariel, like many helvetian children, was a psyker. His powers manifested in the dark, in those micro-seconds that passed in the blink of an eye. When the lights went out, he would traverse several dozen feet without moving a muscle. This would earn him the title of Angelus Lacrimarus, or Weeping Angel, bestowed by Sanguinius, who saw a disturbing resemblance between Sariel and these beasts of Old-Terran mythology.
Sariel would distinguish himself for his very unusual way of leadership; he emphasized the importance of brotherhood and loyalty. He encouraged trust amongst his men, believing that even the gutter-born Terrans, like himself, and the decrepit Nostramans could live by a code of honour. To ensure his vision, Sariel demanded discipline. Whoever dared to murder or betray a brother, was to be put to the blade. This would lead to a form of union almost unparalleled amongst the VIIIth legion, save perhaps for Sevatar's own brotherhood.
Sariel survived the Heresy, reaping a great toll amongst the loyal forces, and would later on follow Lord Decimus into the fold of the 13th Black Crusade.
------------------------------------------------------

Hey everyone, thanks for the kind words!
Here is the promised colour-pic of Lord Sariel. Hope you like him! I'll be posting a bit more fluff for my Crimson Sons in the next few days.
Now, what have I been working on?
Well, let me show you...

Work on my IW Prator has started, I decided for the MK V head in the end because it fitted him the most in my eyes^^

I have taken an interest in the Death Guard as a potential Kill Team Force (and perhaps more...)

And the last pic... Well, let's just say that I've taken an interest in the Unification Era... :biggrin.:

@Black Cohort, Yeah I agree, I've started experimenting in that direction^^

@Thousand Eyes; Thank you, greatly appreciated mate!

Have a nice time guys and leave a comment or criticism, helps a lot!

EDIT: It has been brought to my attention that the Firstborn project was NOT a part of the original background that was fleshed out by Hyanidae, but an original creation by him. Thus I have decided to edit my Lord out of it as a.) he has no room in there and b.) I have no permission whatsoever to use that material, thus I deeply apologize. Thank you The Psycho for bringing that up in a very civil manner and I wish you all a pleasant day! :smile.:
