You can use this opportunity to get assistance on fleshing out your army's fluff, Noeh.

Many people start off listing ideas they're not quite convinced on yet, or they post a barebones outline they can further flesh out with the feedback they get. Sometimes it helps to get some constructive attention while still early in the process.

Well said Conn Eremon. If there is anything the B&C has shown is that it is a diverse group and is typically overwhelmingly supportive. The Liber Astartes group has a thread called Liber Surgery to help people put together background fluff that is widely seen as being plausible in the 40k Universe. The same can easily be done here. I even encourage WIP threads to help individuals develop their ideas. While this event has an individual achievement, it has the benefit of bring members together to collaborate on each others projects and providing a level of depth to not only the game but the community as a whole.

the Daughters of Russ, known to the Imperium as the order of the Shieldmaidens will also add there history and there customs in these hallowed webpages. (heyy got to stay in character right?)

Edit, when i post the lore and all that stuff i doubt i will add it in one go, so i will add "WIP" to it at the top of that post, once its finished that will change to "Finished". I think this shouldnt be a problem right?

Sister of the Ruby Blade

ORDER NAME: Order of the Ruby Blade

SUMMARY

HOME WORLD: Ananke, Jupiter, Sol System, Segmentum Solar

MAIN COLOURS: Silver robes with red lining, turquoise armour

SPECIALITY: Anti-Ship Operations, Drop-pod Assaults

BATTLE CRY: For Mina and the Emperor! On wings of fire, we fly!

CURRENT STRENGTH: 1,500 battle sisters

ALLEGIANCE: Ordo Astartes, Adepta Sororitas, Adeptus Ministorum

ORIGIN OF THE ORDER:

The Order of the Ruby Blade was originally founded from the survivors of a mission to cleanse Rogsh, the Crimson Sabers' home world after their fall to Chaos in .M40. While the mission to Rogsh was mostly successful, the traitor marines having been forewarned, the Sisters suffered heavy losses. The joint leaders of the expedition, Inquisitor Joyeuse of the Ordo Astartes and Canoness Muriel of the Order of the Bloody Rose, fell in combat against the Marines' sorcerous leader, the blue-armoured Epistolary Arvang.

The survivors returned to Terra with the bodies and wargear of the fallen. The highest-ranked survivor was Seraphim Superior Vanella, who bore Joyeuse' sword before the High Lords of the Inquisition and the Ecclesiarchy, and the Abbess Prioris. She spoke with great passion and honour of the heroic sacrifice of the Inquisitor and the Canoness, and demanded leave to found a new Minor Order in their names. One who would specialise in the kinds of missions needed to hunt down renegades and traitors. Purportedly, the three High Lords shared a long look, before unanimously agreeing to found the Order of the Ruby Blade, named for the way Joyeuse' sword glowed in the evening light when it was found, buried in the corpse of Arvang.

HOME WORLD:

Ananke is one of Jupiter's outer moons, and the heart of a cluster called the Ananke Group. The moon was once a mining colony, then a prison, and is now a fortress guarding the approaches to the inner Sol system - and, though the Sisters of the Ruby Blade are unaware of the fact, the Grey Knight fortress-monastary on Titan. The convent spans the entire Ananke Group, with transit between the different sections performed by shuttle or jump pack. It's considered a rite of passage for any of the Order's aspiring Seraphim to do a circuit of all seven major members of the Ananke Group.

PRESENT ACTIVITIES:

As the Eye of Terror opens, the Order of the Ruby Blade have their hands full. The agents of Chaos are many and widespread, infiltrating and corrupting Astartes at every turn. Three whole chapters have fallen in the last hundred and fifty years alone, and an estimated six to seven chapters' worth in individual desertions up to the squad level. With the vagaries of Warp Travel and astrotelepathic communication being as they are, even with the Emperor's luck on their side the Sisters of the Ruby Blade arrive too late to cleanse the fallen three out of five deployments.

COMBAT DOCTRINE:

The Order of the Ruby Blade specialise in rapid strike tactics, especially boarding actions. They deploy primarily using drill-tipped torpedos fired at close range. Their initial targets are always the enemy ship's bridge and magazine, first to cut off their ability to respond properly to the attack, the second to set charges and detonate the magazine, scuttling the ship.

Ruby Blade boarding teams are made up of thirty Sisters in each torpedo. The first ten Sisters are armed with boarding shields and bolters. The five behind them are armed with Flamers, and the five behind them with Meltaguns. The next five carry heavy demolition charges and bolt pistols, forming the main 'payload' of the team. The remaining five Sisters in each boarding team are armed with bolters and power mauls.

When assaulting ground targets, the doctrine changes slightly. The Sisters deploy in four-squad teams via drop pod. Two teams will carry heavy weapons for target suppression, while the remaining two carry meltaguns. Space Marine Fortress-Monastaries are some of the hardest targets in the entire galaxy, and these clean-up crews know they cannot waste time on less effective weapons.

The last major departure from standard Sororitas battle doctrine is in the Ruby Blade's deployment of Seraphim squads. The Ruby Blade has over a hundred Seraphim, and roughly half of them are trained as pilots, primarily equipped with Voss-pattern Lightning Interceptors as one of the few Imperial aircraft capable of matching and downing Stormhawks and Xyphons in the air. Their main role is to prevent the escape of rogue elements via Thunderhawk, however.

The remaining Seraphim perform a skirmishing role, attacking exposed elements and wiping them out, or otherwise distracting larger formations and forcing them to split into manageable units.

Due to the nature of their prey, the power of their sponsors and their proximity to Mars and Deimos, these Seraphim squads are as over-equipped as the rest of the Order. It is not uncommon for entire squads to be armed with plasma pistols in addition to their hand flamers, although inferno pistols remain a rare and treasured resource.

ROLL OF HONOR:

- Battle

Description

Short descriptions of famous battles and outcomes in the order’s history. Try to provide at least three different battles.

ORDER ORGANIZATION:

How is the Order organized? Do they have any special formations? Do they have notable attachments (Militia, Inquisitors) What about the Specialists? This section will probably contain the Painter images of the different paint schemes of the various sisters and specialists.

The Order is broken down into hundred-strong task groups.

BELIEFS:

Unique beliefs and practices.

RECRUITMENT:

Novices seconded to the Order of the Ruby Blade are taken from the bi-annual swearing in on Terra. These twelve-year-olds are chosen from the other Militant aspirants based on their performance during transit from their schola, their reactions to the Void and to warp-travel, and their good balance between aggression and level-headedness.

They then train for one year on Luna's Ring in zero-gravity combat, deck-clearance tactics and room-to-room CQC. They then spend another year training on Mars, launching Drop-Pod assaults on the Syrtis Major planum, where they practice assaulting the ruined Forge against Skitarii training battalions, Techmarines-in-training and other Sororitas orders.

The third year of their training involves a round-trip through the Warp to Ophelia VIII to obtain the blessings of the Abbess Sanctorum and train in fighting warp-borne threats. This journey is done in one of two specially modified Cobra-class Frigates whose Gellar Fields have been altered to deliberately leave the ventral galleries unprotected for the purpose.

At the end of this three-year training programme, the novices are initiated into the Order of the Ruby Blade in a ritual that takes place on their convent-world, the guardian moon Ananke, and stand ready to execute their duties.

LOCAL RITUALS:

Any rituals in their home world/base.

Does the unit have a ritual they always perform before going into battle?

Colour scheme:

sister.php?bpe=56A0F0&bpj=56A0F0&bp=56A0

(Note: The gold part is originally a skirt while the blue loincloth is a cape.)

History:

The history of the order of the Shieldmaidens and is one of the best kept secrets in the imperium. There legend begins when the Emperor sat with Russ in his feasting halls. It was noticed by the Emperor that among the many warriors there were almost an equal amount of female warriors.

the Emperor asked Russ if all those warriors were battle proven, in wich Russ responded that each and everyone of them were as what the Emperor just asked.

Pondering on what to say next the Emperor chose his words with care, and in whisper he told Russ that up till that time he hadnt altered females to Astartes, but seeing the situation at hand he could change this policy. He explained that up till now the process was almost impossible, but infact he had solved this ages ago. However at the time he didnt want to change all to Astartes so he had planted this rumour ages ago.

Russ agreed, and to make sure this rumour stayed he also said that he would keep his legion split, his main force being the Spacewolves and the others working in secret under guise of Sisters of silence as his 2nd. (Hence the real reason why the Spacewolves were 1 of the smaller legions).

During this time they contributed to many victories, among those the most famous being the attack on Prosspero where there guise as sisters of silence took many Thousand son by suprise. Even though many records on this fact have been carefully erased from historical records.

The Horus Heresy aftermath:

After the Imperium survived the battle that was to become known as the Horus Heresy, the Emperor enthrusted the secret to Dorn, making him the second one to know about the Daughters of Russ, Dorn was to make sure that the existence was to remain a secret and they Daughters of Russ were to reapear when they were needed in far darker times yet to come.

Dorn and Russ met during these times and pondered on how to proceed when oppurtunity arose when the Primarch of the Ultramarines presented the codex Astartes. There plan was simple, make as much noise and oppose the idea to draw attention from the Daughters of Russ while they relocated to a new planet, preparing for a dark future where they were needed. And so it came to be that they made Falris there new homeworld.

Return to the Imperium:

For many years the Daughters of Russ kept silence, and hid. Untill during m36 a single hooded battle sister bearing word from none other than Alicia appeared, she told them that they Daughters of Russ could act as if they were an order similar to what they would become, making sure that they were prepared for what was to come.

Records kept by the order show that from time to time they fought together with an order known as the Order of the Amazon Fist, this order is clad in bright yellow and there banners sport the same symbol as the Imperial Fists Space marine chapter, not to mention there adapt skills in siege warfare. It has been speculated within the order that Primarch Dorn also has a female Astartes succesor chapter fighting in the name of the Emperor, but question on this subject has not been officialy made.

Home world:

Falris is a small world on the edges of the known universe, its slightly smaller than Terra and is in a stable orbit. Its mainly covered by forest with trees so large that they even cover the oceans making it appear as there are only trees to be found on Falris.

The planets north and south pole are covered by large tundras, the north tundra also maintains the main order keep of the Daughters of Russ who are better known as the Order of Shieldmaidens in the 41st millenium.

The people on Falris are simple folk, living with nature and fending off the many dangers that lurk in the woods such as Tree trolls or the sharks that live between the treeroots in the oceans.

Recruitment and Training:

They mainly recruit from Falris but will from time to time take recruitment from other planets when they encounter such a promising individual. Just like there Spacewolf counter part they recruit from the best, and even than it isnt certain they make it to become a fully fledged Astartes battle sister.

Note on the mark of the Wulfen, even though there Spacewolf brothers are subject to this curse, it appears to be less so for the Daughters of Russ, although this might have other causes. The reasons for this might be because of them simply being female.

There training is similar to that of any regular Battle sister, although due to there nature and because of the planet they also train in use of combat, in addition to this they have acces to gear that other Battle Sister orders have not. There most elite might eventually gain the rights to don Terminator armour or ride into battle on one of majestic Falris Deers that can be found on Falris.

Heroes of the order:

Grand Valkerie Brünhilde, Wolfqueen of Falris has been in command for over 50 years and under her guidance they Daughters of Russ have retaken back there original name after many years to been known as the Order of the Shield Maidens. She rides into battle on the only Horse found on Falris. (although it might have been from another planet).

Time and time again she has proven to be a mighty warrior and a capable leader. Many Chaos warriors have already fallen to her blade.

First sword lady Sif, keeper of the lore.

Lady Sif is instantly reckognisable amongs the ranks cause of her trademark red cloak, also a great sword fighter she is an inspiration to any who look upon her. her role in the army is similar to that of a Wolfpriest.

Grand Enchantress Ysmiralda.

As the order is not what they appear to be, psykers can be found amongst there ranks. Although most wouldnt be able to tell the difference. The most powerfull amongst these is Grand Enchantress Ysmiralda. Even amongst the tribe folk of Faldir she was a capable healer and was known to controll the elements. She was found by the order and eventually she became one of the battle sisters, rising all the way up to be Grand Enchantress.

She is a modest person and this even reflects in battles, not waving around with her powers instead changing things in the orders favor subtly. A feat even Njall has reckognized as to more usefull than his grand storms.

the Chooser of the Slain:

A title held by a select few battle sisters, its a role often been executed as adviser to the Grand Valkerie, but it also includes duties that can be best described as what an Aphotecary does for a Spacemarine chapter.

Current day M41:

As to current day affairs the order is preparing to stand along side there Space Wolf brothers when Abaddon makes his move and starts his 13th crusade. Brünhilde and Logan met in secret and plans for a united front have already been put in place.

One of the Emperor's biggest secrets is about to reveal its full might.

"Grand Valkerie Brünhilde"

The sons and daughters of the Wolf king will strike the darkness together and show the Empire what true heroes look like.

Relics/ Beliefs:

The Dragontooth blade:

-A blade forged during times the Emperors still walked, its a treasured blade that never seems to dull and has been the signature weapon for every Grand Valkerie. Its blade seems to cut more smoothly through anything chaos related.

They refer to the Emperor as the Allfather just like ther Spacewolf brothers.

Ashen Wolves of Gersemi

SUMMARY
▪ HOME WORLD: Vanr, Syr, and Valfrej
▪ MAIN COLOURS: Soot smudged tan, black, and red.
▪ SPECIALITY: Close combat and fire
▪ BATTLE CRY: "Lady Freyja guide our flames!" "In the Allfather's name!" "Leave nothing but ash!"
▪ CURRENT STRENGTH: Full strength with the planets of people.
▪ ALLEGIANCE: Independent but they follow the Allfather like Fenrisians.

ORIGIN OF THE ORDER:
The group began as a detachment of Fenrisian Defense Force members loyal to the Space Wolves. The group was simply one that had a higher percentage of women that had proven themselves as capable leaders than men. The group itself was led by one who was known to be as fearless as any member of the Wolves proper. The others referred to her as "Lady Freyja", and she controlled the force with an iron fist.

When a relic of ancient technology was discovered relatively close to Fenris in the galaxy, the Wolves opted to first send a detachment of defense force members, rather than  worry themselves with such a trivial matter as securing a relic on an uninhabited, icy, death world. And so, Lady Freyja and her group were sent off in a battleship to assess the relic. The relic turned out to be some sort of portal gate from an age long lost, but it had managed to be activated by Dark Eldar forces to serve as a webway gate instead. Seeing the local inhabitants of the star system in peril, the defense force hailed their home planet for aid against the xeno threat. When no response was heard they could wait no longer and led a noble  attack against the Dark Eldar forces. The death toll was a steep one, but they managed to fight back the invading forces. and the ancient portal went dormant. After the battle, only thirty members remained alive or simply injured to try and re-establish control of the planet. Within a week, most of those succumbed to their injuries as well, leaving only a dozen.

Months later, the twelve had led the locals in securing the portal grounds and organizing them as best they could. The Dark Eldar had been terrorizing them longer than anyone on the planet could remember. The civilians turned to the twelve for leadership, viewing them as divine heroes for saving them.

As more months passed, the area around the portal was turned into a fortress to protect the only habitable zone on the death world. The nearby planet of Syr, took notice of the looming battleship on their planetary neighbor. Crashing down from the skies came three terrifying juggernauts of metal, House Najrell's Knights. The knights were like none the defense force had seen before in any training manual, these were altered in a clearly heretical fashion! As they prepared to strike out at the invading machines, the locals intervened. They spoke of the knights as saviors and not demons. With so few to fight back, the twelve had little choice but to restrain their better judgement. The members of House Najrell proved to be allies to the civilians and met with the twelve. The two sides agreed to a loose alliance as long as the locals of either planet were protected.

Years passed, decades after that. It was now nearly two centuries since the first battle. There had still been no response from Fenris. There had never been a response. The twelve had now been reduced to merely four, with five succeeded by their own children. The alliance with House Najrell had strengthened in folds and the portal fortress had expanded into a makeshift hive city. While they had never intended to stay in the system, it had become the new home for those that remained. The Nine had raised an army of their own in the meantime to fight any threat that might come from the portal, but nothing ever did. However their ship, still in orbit  received a troubling call from a pair of smaller ships not too far off. The Wolves had finally arrived, but with weapons hot. It seems they believed the planets had been overrun and only wished to purge the threat. All attempts to hail them were in folly. The defense force vessel had little choice but to fire upon those they once viewed as allies. One ship was critically hit before they even reached the system and hurled it into the binary star. The other managed to avoid too much damage and troops landed on the surface outside the fortress. The Wolves pressed onward, breaking into the fortress with ease. It was hardly a fight for the Astartes and their equipment.

As the battle raged on, the moon nearby shifted dramatically. A giant, dark storm the Nine had taken to calling "The Allfather's eye" normally whirled across the milky surface, but now it focused on the planet itself. As if a message from the Allfather himself, the portal reactivated in the heart of the fortress and Lady Freyja drew herself out from the rippling energy. She was by no means the same woman that had died in the original attack, Freyja was surrounded in a divine glow and carried herself on a pair of enormous wings. For whatever reason, Freyja had been resurrected as a Living Saint. No matter how many fatal blows she took during the battle as it raged on, she continued to stand again and defeat Marines in waves alongside her own forces and the Knights of Najrell.

The battle came to an end with Freyja spearing the last Astartes with her flaming blade. Once reduced to ashes inside his armor, she turned back to those still alive and faded into nothingness as if she had never been there at all. The battlefield was littered with ash, bodies of the fallen, and armor of the defeated marines. The moon's storm still seemed to be standing still, aiming directly at the planet. Together with the Knights, armor covered in ash and soot from those that had fallen, the Nine formed the Ash Dusted Wolves of the Gersemi System. This name would later be shortened to Ashen Wolves of Gersemi in the coming eight centuries that the three planets sprung back into a self sustaining and thriving system, all but swearing off the Imperium entirely. Any battle they faced or any threat they came into contact with from that day on their Lady Freyja returned in her divine glory to lead them through and left nothing but the ashes of their foes.

HOME WORLD:

  • The Gersemi System on the worlds Syr, Vanr, and Valfrej

PRESENT ACTIVITIES:

  • At present, the Ashen Wolves are simply maintaining their respective worlds and keeping the peace among them. They have no true goals other than to protect their new-found people from any threats, whether from the ancient artifact or from off-world.

COMBAT DOCTRINE:

  • Each respective planet fights in a different way, but they stick to the same theme of fight and glory in close quarter combat. They ways they fight varies based on what equipment they have available. Most of what they obtain is made by their forces, salvaged from combat, or stolen from ships passing nearby their system.

ROLL OF HONOR:
- Dark Eldar

The first encounter on the planet before the Ashen Wolves were formed. Dark Eldar forces had raged across the planet from a portal, crushing, pillaging, and enslaving all those they could.

The defense force eliminated them, but took extremely severe losses.

-Space Wolves
The defining battle that formed the Ashen Wolves. Lady Freyja returned as a Living Saint to lead the forces to a blazing victory. This battle was actually the start of the tradition to coat armor in the ashes of the fallen.

The Wolves broke open the fortress on the planet surface and tore their way through to the portal at the center. Most of their forces had fortunately been lost as their second ship hurtled into the suns, otherwise the Ashen Wolves may not have been victorious even with a trio of modified Knights on their side.

ORDER ORGANIZATION:
The order itself is divided into roughly nine parts. Valfrej's four sections each have an army of their own. Syr has the three Knights and the least number of forces due to the battleship sitting in orbit as a defense measure. Vanr has the largest deployment centered around the hive fortress itself. A smaller detachment watches over the remaining half of the planet.

BELIEFS:

  • As native Fenrisians, they believe in the Allfather rather than the God Emperor of Mankind. They hold to the belief that the Allfather watches over their battles and guides them through a living saint known as Lady Freyja.
  • They also believe that the ashes of their fallen grant them strength in battles and protect them as a second armor.

RECRUITMENT:

As those that survived the original battle were all women, the Ashen Wolves have kept the tradition to only recruit women they find worthy. As they were once Fenrisians. the women are put through vigorous tests and trials before being allowed to don the power armor of the Ashen Wolves. Those that fail are still held with respect for surviving and offered higher class positions than the general civilians. Either is seen as a great honor.

LOCAL RITUALS:

  • After a battle, the fallen Ashen Wolves are burned on the field where they fell. The entire battlefield is typically cleansed in fire by A group of women known as the Valkyr. It's believed that burning the bodies where they fell is the only way their deeds are remembered when the Allfather takes them.
  • The ashes, now freed of their souls, are then taken by the survivors and rubbed upon their armor in a ritualistic fashion. That way their memory is carried on and protects the ones who live to fight another day. Because of this, even the armor of the fallen is protected in their eyes before it is given to another sister to use in battle.

ORDER NAME

Order of Our Lady of the Perpetual Flame (Ordo Nostrae Aeterni Ignis Dominae)

SUMMARY

▪ HOME WORLD: Stralitsa IV, XXX System, Lysades Sub-sector, Gothic Sector, Segmentum Obscurus

▪ MAIN COLOURS: Deep Red and Bone White with Grey accents

▪ SPECIALITY: Mechanized assault, Hive warfare, and Close range firefights

▪ BATTLE CRY: Faith in the Flames

▪ CURRENT STRENGTH: 400-800 (exact number not known due to ongoing campaigns without constant contact)

▪ ALLEGIANCE: Order of Our Martyred Lady, Convent Sanctorum, Adepta Sororitas, Adeptus Ministorum, Ordo Hereticus

ORIGIN OF THE ORDER:

In 589.M38, a mission of the Order of Our Martyred Lady was sent to Stralitsa IV in the Drastar System to crush a rebellion.  Working with the local ecclesiarchy, the mission was quickly able to put down protesters opposed to the local governor and cardinal, but a longer campaign was necessary to root outrevolutionary cells on the planet.  It took just over one Terran year to remove the anti-Imperial forces.

Upon the completion of their task, Palatine Yianna was seized by the governor’s forces under false accusations of heresy.  She was found guilty by the local cardinal and brought the next day to the square before the imperial mansion to be burned.  But as the flames engulfed her, Sister Yianna did not burn.  Her faith in the emperor cooled the flames, as the crowd watched for nearly an hour.  Even as the fuel burned out, the flames still surrounded Yianni, who moved to attack the cardinal after her bonds had burned away.  Yianni was martyred by the cardinal’s guard, but her body remained wrapped in flames.  Yianni’s body would months later be recovered by her Sisters, and was found to still be wreathed in the flames though her flesh had long burned away to ash.  Sister Yianni is venerated as a saint by her sisters due to the holy moments around her martyrdom.

After Sister Yianni’s martyrdom, the mission began a campaign to remove the governor and cardinal for their heresy.  Preaching against the local government, the Sisters were able to turn many loyal citizens against the apostates, as well as organizing lightning raids on the traitorous and weak PDF.  In five years, the Sisters were able to defeat the heretical forces and take control of the planet.  For three decades, the planet was held under the control of the mission, before the Administratum and Ministorum could replace the local leadership.  In this time, the planet was under the control of the mission’s newly raised palatine, Sister Eirene.  Sister Eirene’s rule was harsh and unforgiving, resulting in numerous uprisings and numerous purgings of heretics and unbelievers.  Upon the resumption of Administratum rule, the planet would calm.  During the mission’s long stay on Stralitsa, a new convent had been established by Sister Eirene, based around those who served in the two campaigns of pacification, named Ordo Nostrae Aeterni Ignis Dominae (the Order of Our Lady of the Perpetual Flames), after the miracle of St. Yianni.  They changed the color of their armor to a deep red and their robes to a bone white, to symbolize the fires surrounding the bones of St. Yianni, and adorned their armor with grey accents, for the ashes that remained of St. Yianni’s body.  To this day, the Order does not fully trust the local governor or cardinal and keep a close eye on all of their activities.

HOME WORLD:

Stralitsa IV is a civilized world that shares certain traits with an agriworld and is one of three inhabited planets in the Stralitsa system, the others being a Adeptus Mechanicus research station within the gas giant Stralitsa VI and the other being Stralitsa VIII, a mining world and training grounds for low gravity and atmosphere free combat for the Sororitas.  The planet has a population of approximately 75 million.  The southern hemisphere is temperate, but due to millennia of over farming and frequent, rapid temperature shifts due to odd wind patterns, is poorly suited to agriculture.  Instead, the southern hemisphere is largely urban and industrial, and it is here that the planetary governor and cardinal live.  The northern hemisphere is largely agrarian, and devoted to growing and grazing luxury foods for off planet use (either in the form of the tithe or through trade), as well as agriculture to ensure planetary self-sufficiency.  The convent of the Order of Our Lady of the Perpetual Flame is located here, and it controls a large fiefdom responsible for the food production for the convent.

PRESENT ACTIVITIES:

Tabor, Bar-El System, Agripinaa Sector, Segmentum Obscurus

The majority of the Order of Our Lady of the Perpetual Flame has been assigned to the Imperial defense and reconquest of the Agripinaa Sector during the Thirteenth Black Crusade.  Due to their experiences fighting in hive cities, the majority of the Order has been assigned to the defense of the hive world Tabor.  Canoness Sophronia is currently leading three quarters of the Order on this mission, but has been out of contact with the remnants of the convent left to garrison Stralitsa IV.

COMBAT DOCTRINE:

The Order specializes in armored assaults, pushing deep into the enemy’s position before disembarking to unleash a torrent of flame and bolter shells.  The Order heavily uses Retributor squads equipped with Heavy Flamers, and prefers to equip its battle sister squads with flamers and heavy flamers; melta weapons are commonly only found on Immolators and in Dominion squads.  Recent wars with Orkish threats have led to the adoption of small, fire support squads equipped with heavy and storm bolters to blunt the Xenos assaults, while still using mobile units equipped with flamers to quickly respond where the enemy was strongest and to purge the battlefield of the infestation.

ROLL OF HONOR:

The Burning of Kayzha - Part of the Purification of Stralitsa IV

Kayzha, Stralitsa IV, Stralitsa System, Lysades Sub-sector, Gothic Sector, Segmentum Obscurus

Date: 4094592.M38

Nearly midway through the war to remove the heretic governor and cardinal of Stralitsa IV, Palatine Eirene coordinated her forces for an assault on the apostate city of Kayzha.  Despite being the second largest city on the planet, the city was able to contribute little to the heretics’ war effort aside from bodies, but Sister Eirene thought that an assault on the city would massively demoralize the traitors.  Fully half of the mission was organized for the assault, including nearly every piece of armor under her command.  From all sides, immolators and rhinos rushed into the city, firing as much at the buildings of the city as the traitor PDF.  Exorcists would fire one chord at the rebelling defenders and the next at a skyscraper or apartment block.  By night, the heretics were routed and trapped in the rapidly crumbling city, as the Sisters burned with melta and flame every piece of flesh and architecture they could find.  Within four revolutions, the once proud city was a charred wasteland.

The Incineration of Dome 76-J91  - Part of the Reconciliation of Plothen Underhive

Plothen  Hive, Archaos, System, the Drusus Marches, Calixis Sector, Segmentum Obscurus

Start Date: 5633824.M39

End Date:  5690824.M39

A Scavvy uprising in the underhive of Plothen brought the Order of Our Lady of the Perpetual Flame to aid in quelling the uprising.  Upon starting the Warp journey to Archaos, the small mission of the Order had been informed that they would merely be assisting the local PDF, who should have no problem putting down the scum and mutants.  When they exited, the Sisters received a series of messages detailing the routing of the multiple PDF forces, coupled with strange accounts of what sounded like witches and heretics among the mutants.  Upon arrival, the Sisters quickly mobilized in the underhive and began movements against the rebels.  Their support by the PDF was minimal, with only the force’s light armor accompanying them.  After a few Terrans weeks of small skirmishes with the rebels, the Sisters managed to trap a large force of the mutants in one of their hovel villages in Dome 76-J91.  What began as a massacre of mutants turned into a melee as mutant witches brought daemons in from the Immaterium.  The battle raged for fifty-seven thousandths of a Terran year, as daemons, heretics, and mutants were purged by the holy flame of the Emperor’s justice.  Upon burning the witches and routing this group of rebels, the Sisters proceeded to incinerate the entire dome, purifying it of any potential taint.

The Martyrdom of Dvol - Part of the Orkish Infestation of Stralitsa IV

Dvol, Stralitsa IV, Stralitsa System, Lysades Sub-sector, Gothic Sector, Segmentum Obscurus

Date: 5860250.M40

The first Orkish rock landed on the planet on 4752246.M40.  By midway through 250.M40, a further three had fallen on the planet.  While at first the Orks participated in ramshackled attacks on massive formations of PDF and raids on small farming communities, by late 250.M40 they had organized under the rule of Uznak Splittooth.  The first large battle between the united Orkish threat and the Order and local PDF came at the small town and shrine of Dvol.  The Imperial forces organized barricades and set up a series of firing positions to wait for the Orkish advance.  And, not failing to disappoint, the Orks approached the city in a vast mob, charging headlong into the firing lines set up for their approach.  But the withering hail of bolt shell and lasbeam was not enough to halt the Orkish assault, which spilled into the town.  As the PDF wavered and sections of their lines began to route, the SIsters began chanting as a single body great hymns of courage that inspired their secular brothers and sisters to hold fast and redouble their efforts against the Orks.  Throughout the night and into the morning the battle raged as the Sisters slowly retreated through the town to take up defensive positions at the Shrine of St. Harmon, where the entire defense force, save one sister who fled, would fall.  However, during the final assault on the shrine the Warboss Uznak was felled, sending the Orkish forces into even greater chaos in the aftermath of the battle, allowing the Order ample time to prepare greater defenses in the surrounding countryside.

The Sack of Mataix Spire - Part of The Purging of Tarhel Hive, Part of the Gothic War

Tarhel Hive, Bladen, Bladen System, Lysades Sub-sector, Gothic Sector, Segmentum Obscurus.

Start Date: 4220158.M41

End Date: 4381159.M41

Towards the end of the Gothic War, the Order of Our Lady of the Perpetual Flame was called upon to aid in reclaiming the eastern hemisphere of the hive world Bladen.  Canoness Prokopia Ptoliporthia was given command of the efforts to retake Tarhel Hive in 4983157.M41 by Lord General Aact Rakho, after the death of General Galeazz Biskon.  The walls of the hive had already been breached by the Legio Fulmen, creating an opening to the hive city.  While the already long siege had cut the population of the hive to a small fraction of what it once was, the dark powers had managed to keep the hive thick with the vilest sorts of mutants, mad cultists, and dark daemons.  On 4220158.M41, Canoness Prokopia’s Sisters had made their way to Mataix Spire where the heretic leadership was.  Squadrons of Dominions rushed through the highest reaches of the upper city to breach the adamantium walls of the spire, followed closely by the great shields of Exousia squadrons, pushing through a mass of mutant bodies.  Even as the defenders all laid dead within the first few hundred yards of the spire, daemons continued to pour into the hive from the Immaterium, through a rip in reality created by the vile sorcerers of the heretics.  For eight weeks, the Sisters pushed through the hordes of daemons, purging the tainted spire with holy promethium, until the prayers of the Sisters and of Canoness Prokopia reached the Emperor, and the rift was closed, sated by the carnage wrought upon the dark beasts.

ORDER ORGANIZATION:

The Order of Our Lady of the Perpetual Flame largely follows standard Sororitas organization.  The primary  exception is the formation of dedicated close combat squads made up of Celestians called Exousia squads.  It was during the Ork Infestation of 246–478.M40 that the Order first organized Exousia squads.  The Order suffered a number of pyrrhic victories and defeats every time that even small numbers of Orks were able to reach their lines.  To address this problem, they formed these squadrons to meet any Orkish threat that could survive the hail of bolt shell and flame to reach their lines.  They consisted of groups of Sisters equipped with great storm shields to blunt the Xenos assault and Sisters fitted with combat blades and given doses of Onslaught (previously kept by the Mission for dosing Penitent Engines and Arcoflagellants) who would charge through gaps opened in the shieldwall to sow havoc in the Orkish mobs.  They are accompanied by Dialogi practiced in the hymnals of the blessed Ministorum and trained in the use of the holy eviscerator, to aid in the dispatching of Orkish walkers.  The members of these squads tend to cover themselves or their shields in the divine words of the Lectio Divinatus.

Standard color scheme of the Order

sister.php?bpe=900000&bpj=BBBBBB&bp=9000

BELIEFS:

The Order of Our Lady of the Perpetual Flame follow the beliefs of the Sororitas and Ecclesiarchy very faithfully.  Their only minor divergence from standard Sororitas belief is their distrust of the local branch of the Adeptus Ministorum; the Order likes to keep a close watch on the Ecclesiarchy and is quick to root out potential heresy.  While this is a duty shared by all Sisters, the Order of Our Lady of the Perpetual Flame is more eager than most to see to these duties.

RECRUITMENT:

The Order of Our Lady of the Perpetual Flame’s convent takes in a significant number of orphans from the Stralitsa System to be sent to the Schola Progenium on Acre in the Port Maw Sub-sector of the Gothic Sector.  It is from this Schola that the majority of the convent’s recruits are drawn.  Unfortunately, most of the female progena raised there end up becoming naval officers due to the high number of recruits that Battlefleet Gothic requires from the Schola.  The Abbey of the Dawn, a Sororitas training facility on Iocanthos in the Calixis Sector, also provides a number of the new recruits for the Order of Our Lady of the Perpetual Flame.

LOCAL RITUALS:

When a novice is to be inducted into the order, she fully dons her armor before the congregation of the entire convent.  Her armor is then painted with a thin layer of holy promethium, and she kneels before the relics of St. Yianni the Erythromartyr and begins chanting requests for the Saint to beg the Emperor to strengthen her will.  As she is doing this, the Canoness Preceptor (or the highest ranked sister present at the convent) lights the novice’s armor on fire.  When the flames extinguishes itself, she will be a full sister of the Adepta Sororitas.  This ritual is only very rarely fatal.

ORDER BANNERS OR BATTLE STANDARDS:

The Order’s heraldry is a light grey fleur-de-lys sitting atop a pool of flame.

HONORS, RELICS, DECORATIONS AND AWARDS:

The Order’s most prized relic are the remains of St. Yianni.  They maintain a reliquary of her bones, still alight in the holy flames of the Emperor, in the chapel of their convent.  The Order also keeps a Mantle said to have been worn by St. Sabbat during her Crusade that was recovered during a mission on Hesketh in late M39, as well as a sword of authority wielded by St. Asceline, recovered from a desecrated shrine during the scouring of Pemko Hive on Lo.

BATTLE CRY:

"Faith in the Flames!"

CHAMPIONS OF THE ORDER:

St. Yianni the Erythromartyr - A palatine of the Order of Our Martyred Lady and considered the founder of the Order.  She was martyred by traitors after a campaign to pacify Stralitsa IV, which led to a longer campaign to pacify the new outbreak of unbelief on the planet.  Though technically not of the order, she is venerated by the Order and seen as their patroness, who intercedes with the Emperor for their prayers.

Palatine Eirene Tagmatokos - Yianni’s successor, who in actuality was the founder of the Order.  She led a lengthy campaign against the planetary governor and cardinal after their unbelief was revealed.  Despite being outnumbered many times over by the governor’s PDF and the cardinal’s fanatics.  Primarily a warrior, Eirene was not well skilled in strategy, and her assaults tended to be result in high casualties for the loyalist frateris and sororis militia she was able to rally to her aid.  Her brief governorship of the planet was brutal and characterized by frequent purges of those suspected of heresy.

Mistress Fokaina Xenoktoni - The sole survivor of the Martyrdom of Dvol, Sister Fokaina removed her armor and took up the penitential cloth and eviscerator of the Repentia.  Over the next decade, Sister Fokaina would charge headlong into battle time and again with the other repentant sisters of the Order, seeking absolution in service and martyrdom, but while her sisters often fell with each headlong charge into a vast mob or squadron of Orkish walkers, Sister Fokaina again and again survived the battle unscathed.  On the tenth anniversary of taking the Oath of the Penitent, Sister Fokaina was granted absolution after slaying the Warboss Snrub, and allowed to take up her armor and bolter once again.  She served for in a Exousia squadron before eventually becoming a Mistress of the Order’s repentia, leading into death and absolution those who were once as she was.

Canoness Preceptor Sophronia Airetoktoni - The current canoness preceptor of the Order, Sophronia gained great renown within the Order during a witch hunt on Anvil 206 after tracking down a rogue psyker in the ash wastes between Horn 27 Hive and Step 03 Hive.  She would later take command of a small mission that had been sent to aid the White Consuls in reclaiming GS/PC45 from a prisoner revolt and chaos incursion, and led her Sisters in the frontal assault on the heretics' central compound.  She would be named the Canoness Preceptor of the Order after her predecessor, Canoness Eudoxia, died while combating feral Orks on Stralitsa IV.  Sophronia would later avenge her predecessor, slaying the Orkish warboss in single combat.

I, Servant of Dante, REMEMBRANCER of the Order of the Glorious Reprisal, in the name of the EMPEROR, make this oath of moment to submit a complete history of my ORDER and it's honored HISTORY.

Yeah, I'm not the Canoness. And maybe I shouldn't technically call myself a remembrancer, but I love that name.

The Brotherhood of Angels and the E Tenebrae Lux

With the introduction of this year’s ETL, now is the time to considering taking your new chapter out to join the ranks of your other armies or add to its own ranks. It is the hope that you’ll consider entering into the ETL and paint up a single model, character, squad or army in the colors of your Brotherhood of the Angels submission. No painted models are required for submission into the BotA and the competition will end with the ending of new entrants into the ETL. Should you choose to paint up something for the ETL based on your BotA article, please edit the post and include the photo of the completed unit — whenever that may be.
