[WiP] Swebat - Veteran/Modern Guard Army

So I've recently returned to the hobby again after a lay-off for a few years due to work, I decided to catch up with the 40k community once again (barely know anyone who collects and paints nowadays). So here's my contribution!

 

A somewhat veteran/modern inspired Imperial Guard army, mostly for time-killing with modeling and painting. Hopefully for a game or two at a relatives place in a near future.

 

I haven't touched a brush for years, so I'm gathering my determination to start painting as soon as the weather allows basecoating outside.

This is the planned camouflage, most of my paints have been thrown in the garbage, so if you have got any ideas what to use from the Vallejo and GW range I'd gladly appreciate it!

 

Here's the current army list, I haven't been able to read up on the changes properly, but it's a start.

I'm not sure how viable it is in its current state, but I hope it will be somewhat semi-competitive at least.

 

Any ideas or tips would be very appreciated! Also suggestions for units that would be a great complement.

Upcoming Company Command Squad, bluetacked heads, haven't really decided what to use yet. Prefer the "Kasrkin" heads for special weapons and vehicle crews. Waiting for a bitz package to arrive, so we'll see how it ends up. Haven't decided how to equip them either. A head for the Telion model is still a mystery!

#1 Veteran Squad - Show off what kind of camouflage I'm planning to do, the painted models need a bit of freshen up.

Rest is WIP at the moment. The radio operator might get a remake.

#2 Veteran Squad - First model is my Harker "count-as", I've remodeled him a bit and he needs a new backpack. The painted ones needs a bit of freshen up as well and added camouflage. Rest is WIP and awaiting clean up & basecoating.

The rest of my army is a Valkyrie and a Tauros currently under build.

I've also got an old fragile Valkyrie from FW, but not sure what I'll do with it, might just let it rest as an old relic.

Welcome back! Your models look great so there's much for us to look forward to :) Don't worry about painting, it's not something you really forget. Just got to familiarise yourself and get back to the endless drive to improve ;) I don't know the Vallejo colours, but those look like Abaddon Black (well, obviously), Camo Green maybe as the lighter green. Loren Green the medium green, though perhaps a little lighter. The darker green looks just like Castellan Green :)

 

It might be a bit early to think about army lists, but Stormies generally do better as smaller squads to strike hard and be less of an issue should you lose them. Veterans are like Stormies with their BS4 so you want to maximise this with upgrades like melta and plasma usually. Plenty of time to sort these details out though so I'm looking forward to watching your army come together :D

You have some great conversions there,you really catch that modern look and feel! I think my favorite is the vox-and-auspex guy from the command squad. Looking forward to seeing it painted.

 

I'm interested in a certain thing: Where do those MOLLE-platecarrier-style torsos come from? Are those parts from some FW line or do they come from a non-GW manufacturer?

 

As a quick note on your list, your stormtroopers squad in the elite section can only have two special weapons, not three.

I think those torsos are from mad robot minis.
