2500 pts Salamanders (Covenant of Fire)

Hi guys,

After a loooong time of lurking I've decided to bite the bullet (and have jumped on the Heresy Train). This is my first attempt at a very fluffy Salamanders list, and comments and feedback would be very much appreciated smile.png.

So, the plan is for Vulkan, the Praetor and the Firedrakes to hop in the Spartan and deal with vehicles, TEQs and other deathstars. The tactical squads and the heavy support squad hold objectives, deal with any MEQs and provide supporting fire. The Deredeos make pew pew sounds, and deal with flyers and vehicles.

Additionally, the list is nearly 200 pts short. Is there anything that would be good for filling in these points, or should I add another Tactical Squad?

A couple of pointers for you:

- I wouldn't take a Praetor as your HQ, as you're paying for Master of the Legion on him and Vulkan. A Terminator Chaplain will give Vulkan and the Firedrakes some much-needed hitting accuracy. The Firedrakes will then need to be taken as an Elites choice.

- "The Covenant of Fire" has a restriction that means you can't have more Heavy Support & Fast Attack than Troops. You have 2 Troops and 3 Heavy Support.

- Tacticals in Rhinos are a good, safe option. Throwing a vexilla on them is vital though, even for Salamanders. Artificer armour is also well worth putting on the Sergeant, so he can tank wounds for the squad.

- Deredeos would benefit from Aiolos missile launchers more than armoured ceramite.

- take a look at Promethium Relay Pipes for the HSS. They're a decent option for Sallies!

Yeah use the 200 points to slap on another tactical squad.#the only thing that worries me is that you have poured over half your points into what is essentially a huge deathstar. while this makes them a very killy unit i would look out due to the fact that the new vidicator squadrons with both the lasers and the cannons seem to be very popular right now (at least in my meta) and they may wreck that unit of firedrakes and possibly even kill vulkan and the preator if you are not careful with them

CoF doesn't work well with Vulkan imo. He's best when podded in solo. You'll only ever have one Spartan realistically and it becomes such a target. The best way to COF is to invest heavily in meltas. You have one and a meh invulnerable on vehicles.

Otherwise list is solid and the other points are good. Ailos missiles are too good to pass on.

Thanks for the pointers. What would you recommend to fill up the troops section? I'm debating between another Tac squad and a 5 man Tactical support squad with flamers or meltas. Also, would you replace the heavy support squad for a Tac support squad? blink.png I've swapped the AC for the Ailos for both Deredeos, and added vexilas + Artificer armour for the Sergeant.

Thanks for the advice! Currently debating how to get MOAR MELTAS biggrin.png
