Nevermore.. a Raven Guard (Horus Heresy) painting log

Recommended Posts

Choosing the Army

like quite a few of my fellow B&Cers I have had a copy of Calth giving me the stink eye for quite a few months waiting for me to settle on which legion I was going to plonk with.. Over my 26 years in the hobby I have actually collected 16/18 of the founding Chapters, leaving the Raven Guard and Imperial Fists that I had never touched.

The Fists seemed the most sensible as two boxsets of Calth with some breachers would have made a great little Phall style army, but then I saw the dark Furies..

Choosing the Theme

All my armies currently are on a neutral earth tone base and base rim, with slight variations to the top (cityfight style/urban/warzone etc) but for this army I wanted a classic urban/destroyed city base, and I decided to go with a Black rim to make the models really pop. I went with the “cork style” bases..

These would be painted in a bluey/grey colour scheme, the models would have slight damage and dust on them but not too heavy as it would take away from the Black Armour..

Nice work dude! The camo cloak and plasma pistol both look great. The one criticism that I have is that the bases don't really live up to the excellent paint job on the legionaries. I think they'd really benefit from some sand on top of the cork and maybe an additional drybrush with a lighter colour.

I'm looking forward to seeing some more :tu:

Camo cloak is spot on. Makes for a great visual cue to the Cameleoline option RG characters gets in 30k. Now for the eternal question on RG WIP thread: what's your recipe for black?

Oh one thing I failed to mention is im not a fan of the white armour/helmets on vets etc so most off my guys will be pure black, only exception might be the Deliverers if I paint any up (but may keep both squads back for another force)
