Hello all.

I’ve tried a few themed plogs in the past, but they tended to run out of momentum fairly quickly as my attention span and amount of free time invariably plummeted. To that end I’ve decided to have one big modelling and (Emperor forbid) painting log. Expect sporadic updates and long silences.

But enough words. You want to see models. I’ve recently invested in a small SA army, which I’m hoping to get painted over the ETL. Unfortunately that means that I have to wait until May until I can get any meaningful painting done on them.

However my bitsbox provided a solution. This is my WIP test model for my SA scheme, and the model will potentially be used in a Dark Heresy campaign I’m planning if it ever gets off the ground. Name and background pending. Feel free to make suggestions. For now, she is simply known as Goggles.

For those who are interested, the body is from the valkyrie kit, and the head came from a job-lot of heads I bought from EdT. It had a lot of interesting heads, including a good number of unique female heads, so expect to see a few more cropping up in the coming days and weeks. I'm not sure who makes the heads originally, but they're nice sculpts.

As this will be a test model and won’t be part of a larger army, I thought I’d try making a custom base for her. I finally got to use some of the brass etch I’ve had kicking about for years. It’s still WIP, but coming together nicely.

C&C welcome.

Cheers Dosjetka! Good to know where the heads are from. :)

To be honest, "Goggles" was a spur of the moment thing when I realized I needed a name for the photos. Who knows, it may stick.

Thanks for the kind words. Revision is taking up a lot of my time at the minute, but I'll keep you updated with any progress.

Well, since you asked so nicely Aeternas. :tongue.:

Here's a picture of my share of a recent forgeworld order. It's two dracosans, with Goggles pulling scale duty. Turns out that a dracosan is more or less a solid hunk (in both senses of the word :wub.: ) of resin. Those things are HEAVY.

One of the tracks got miscast, so they're sending me a new track unit. The miscast is probably repairable, which would leave me with an extra track section. Not too sure what to do with it. :huh.: Maybe terrain of some kind?

I've also got twenty choom veletaris, and some ogryn. The ogryn turned out to be recasts, which was annoying. :furious:  Ah well.

Anywho, I have to go. You know, stuff... thangs. :cool.:

Another day, another update.

I managed to get a little more paint on Goggles last night. I'll put up pictures when she's a bit further along.

For now, here are some WIPs of my concept for a Lord (Lady?) Marshal for my SA.

Still at the concept stage atm. The eventual plan is to magnetize the arms for different loadouts. I'm planning on replacing the plasma pistol with one of the older style plasma pistols from the plastic heresy kit. Obviously there's a long way to go, such as removing the 'nid icon etc, but what do people think of the general concept?

I like the idea of having visually different armour to represent artificer, but it still looking void capable.

C+C welcome.

The Lady's looking pretty cool atm. Dunno if she could do with some scarification on her face (or an eyepatch?) as well as some bling like epaulets or thread.

With your mention of articifer armour, as an idea you could make a model to represent her personal smithy to accompany her into battle alongside a command section at some point.

Thanks for the comments guys.

@Dosjetka

I really like the look of the Dracosan. It's a brute of a tank.

@Flint

Thanks. Any suggestions for hair colour? I'm undecided at the minute.

@Soric

I have a few different heads I could try. If I remember, I'll throw up pictures with a few different options. Personally I like the head she has now.

A personal smithy sounds like an interesting modelling opportunity. I'll mull it over. For the command section, I'm planning on converting a squad of veletaris so it's a full 10 man squad with two grenade launchers. It's a good bit cheaper than getting the official squad, and it will have the weapons loadout I want. It'll also be unique to me and my army, which is something I'm striving towards with this army.

Eventually I want to have a fully painted army with resin bases, a few unique conversions and a unique colour scheme painted up to a quality that I'm proud of. It'll probably take a good while, but I'm determined to finish it. Feel free to give me a prod if you see my motivation is lacking. :tongue.: ETL will hopefully help with that.

Come on Flint. Ginger AND glasses? Do you WANT the other acolytes to pick on her? :p

I hadn't actually considered that as a potential hair colour. I'll probably give it a go. Thanks for the suggestion, and for the +1 Andrew. (Is it cool to call you Andrew?)

Afternoon all.

Another small update for you today. First off, here are the alternate heads I promised.

I’m still a fan of the original head, but what do you guys think?

I got a little more work done on Goggles, namely I gave the yellow another coat, painted the wrists yellow, the shoulder pad blue and painted one hand. I don’t like the current skin colour, so I’ll repaint it.

Finally, here are the resin bases I’m planning to use for my infantry. I got them in an eBay lot, so I’m not actually sure who sells them. Since I’ll be hoping to be using them in the ETL, I imagine I’ll need to strip them again, which is a bit of a shame.

Thanks for stopping by.

Good morning.

I haven't managed to do much hobby stuff in the last few days. Revision is taking a large chunk of my day, though I did finish the first Eisenhorn book, and am a good way through the second.

That said, I didn't come empty handed. Here is a Moritat I've built earlier. :tongue.:

The head, for me, really makes this model. Once again, it came from the joblot i got from EdT. I wanted to convey that being a Moritat is not good for your health.

Don't worry, I'll clean up the mouldlines I missed.

I don't know what legion to paint him for. Part of me likes the idea of doing him for one of the "pretty" legions like the IIIrd, the IXth or even the XIIIth, for the juxtaposition. Then again, I might stick to cliche and go something like Iron Hand or Death Guard. Thoughts?

Remember kids. Hold your gun sideways. All the cool people do it. :cool.:

Finally the obligatory "magnetic" shot. He will eventually have the choice of a magnetised backpack or jump pack, but I haven't got round to it yet.

C+C always welcome.

Thanks for the kind words Obscura. It's good to see you posting again. To be honest, my momentum has been flagging a bit. Uni stuff has been pretty brutal recently. I've been meaning to wash the dracosans for a good few days now, but it just never happened.

That said, I'll try to keep this log on track. I'll see if I can get a few more photos up later. The moritat now has a magnetised jump pack, and I'll show you the humble beginnings of a few more Dark Heresy characters, and who knows, if you're all very good, you might even see a slight Primarch conversion. :ph34r.:

Believe me, I totally understand the momentum and lag, just keep on chipping away at it, even if it's a gluing on an arm, laying down a preliminary layer of sculpting putty or reorganizing your work space. It all adds up in the end.

How did you do your Jump Pack conversion? I drilled in two holes into the body and back pieces ( Jump pack and standard power supply ), securing them with cut down pieces of paperclip so the JP's and Backpacks wouldn't move around/rotate off during movement. It created a stable platform, but definitely took a lot of planning.

I don't want to be good, good is dumb.

The jump pack was pretty easy, Obscura. I just filled the indent with greenstuff and glued in a magnet. The pack can rotate, but the magnets are strong enough that it's not a huge problem.

Here are some early WIPs for a sage character for Dark Heresy. I'm not too sure what to do with his outstretched arm. Any ideas?

Finally, a bit of a mystery. Any ideas what this is going to become?

P.S. Sorry about the blurriness. The zoom isn't amazing.

Thanks for stopping by, Atrophus. I appreciate the kind words. I suppose the next question is loyalist or traitor EC?

To everyone else, feel free to suggest a legion for my moritat. I'd like the community's input.
