The magnetized Moritat looks interesting, keen to see how he turns out. As for your Dark Heresy character, can you raise his extended arm further upwards? If so you could make it that he's carrying a flaming torch or if you lower it and add some suitable bits, you could have him carry an ordinary electric torch. What does a sage arm himself with? Either way you've got some cool looking conversions going on :)

Yay! Page 2.

Thanks for the comment Soric. Interesting in a good way, I hope? :p

Those are both pretty solid ideas. I'll have to see if I have any suitable torches, or perhaps give him a glowstick of some variety, and try out some OSL.

If I'm going RAW, I believe he will have a simple las pistol, but to be honest, these characters are more a "for fun" project than a strict WYSIWYG type deal.

Any guesses what the mysterious helmet is going to be used for? I think it's pretty easy, but then again questions are always easy when you know the answer. :p

Ahh he's one of those "little side projects", I find myself doing that more often and it they usually branches out into something bigger.

Parts wise, you could use a spare scope from the Tactical Marine to make the torch, but a glow stick isn't a bad idea. Alternatively if you were up for it, you could take one of the lantern parts from the BT sprue to make him carry a lantern, then you'd still be able to practice your OSL.

There's a few ideas that I can think of to use for the helmet, but I guess a Mechanicum Allied detachment?

Thanks for the comments guys.

Flint, a Death Guard moritat is an option, but I'm currently toying with the idea of White Scars. Don't see many of them about. Thoughts?

Soric, yeah, who doesn't love a good side project? You're full of good ideas. A lantern might be an option, and could give the feeling that he's more at home in a dingy library than in a nasty combat situation. I shall ponder these things further.

Sorry to disappoint but it's not an Ad Mech dude.

Feel free to keep guessing guys.

Congrats Obscura, and Psycho. It is indeed going to be an Arbite helm. Expect Dredd references in the near-to-mid future. :p

Reminding you of Hyaenidae's stuff is always good. I'm still leaning towards Vth legion, but maybe you lot can persuade me.

Power stake is certainly another option. I'll sleep on it.

So I got some sprues in the post today.

That's a Cadian command squad, and the guts of a squad of Cadians. Bitz for the Bitz God and all that.

I've started work on a ganger/scum type. I wanted to avoid the cliche of dual pistols, despite the fact that it's pretty cool.

Just in the process of cleaning the bitz. I'm hoping to get him built tonight. Photos should follow in the next day or two.

Hey all. A bit of a nostalgic update today.

This is an Escher heavy I converted a few years back. She's a bit rough around the edges, but I was really proud of her. I'm still quite partial to this conversion. I might try and finish her, when I get the time.

The greenstuff needs touching up, but I think it's doable. I was quite happy with how the base came out. I really like the leaky pipe. I think I might give her a different head.

So what do people think?

Finally, here's a teaser for the Scum I'm working on.

C&C is always appreciated.

Evening all.

Just a quick update on the Scum I'm working on.

http://i.imgur.com/tW1GsJal.jpg

I thought that instead of going down the cliched dual pistol route, I'd give him an old battered laslock. The gun itself is still WIP. I'm planning on adding a lasgun barrel to the end of it.

I'm not sure if I'll stick with this head. I like that it looks disheveled and that the hair is blowing the same way as the coat, but as it stands, the head won't sit at the angle I want it to. It is looking upwards too much.  A possible alternative is the Helion head with the tube running into his nose. Or maybe one of the bare heads from the command squad sprue.

For painting, I'm considering doing a limited pallet, with only a few browns, yellow, skin, metal, black and white. A limited pallet is quite new to me, so I'd appreciate any advice.

Cheers.

Thanks Andrew. It's not the head per se that I don't like, it's the angle that it sits at. I feel he looks up to the sky a bit too much. The blutack may be masking the problem by not letting the head sit flush in the neck socket. I'll try a few other heads, and see what people think. Noah isn't a terrible name choice, by the way. It might stick.

As an aside, what do you all think of the laslock idea? I like the trigger mechanism as he's holding a rope in his offhand, which he pulls to prime the gun to fire, I like the dichotomy of an advanced laser weapon, which uses a rope to help make it work. It seems very 40k.

Thanks for looking.

Evening all.

Just a minor update tonight.

First of all, FW delivered the replacement for my Dracosan track segment, which is nice. I finish my exams next week, so I'll try to get the resin cleaned up for the start of ETL

I also bought some 50mm resin bases for my Ogryn. They're huge models. I'm not too sure how to include them in any army lists outside of Zone Mortalis. They really suffer from a lack of (non LoW) assault vehicle. Has anyone had any success running them either with or without a Stormlord?

I hope to get some more substantial updates in the next few weeks, but for now, revision calls. :sad.:

Morning kids. How is everyone doing?

Another quick update, where I spectacularly fail to keep my focus on one project, and instead start another. :whistling:

Chatting to a friend has rekindled my interest in Blood Angels, or more specifically, the Angels Encarmine - a little known 2nd Founding Chapter. You know the ones. They're essentially Blood Angels, but with white Death Company. :tongue.:

Their symbol is a winged blood drop, but with bat wings instead of angel wings. I wanted to make use of that imagery in my model.

As usual, the head is from that lovely lot I picked up from EdT, so credit to him for the helmet wings. As you can see, it's very WIP at the minute. I'm planning on doing a model that can either be used in 40k as a Captain or as a 30k Blood Angels Praetor, who likely goes on to found the Angels Encarmine. He'll probably end up rocking a Mk IV jump pack. Might use Astorath's, but it'll need a bit of filing.

I'm planning to give him a sword of some type as that carries over well for both 30k and 40k. As you might have guessed by my avatar, I'm quite fond of a good roundshield, so he will of course have one, which will have the AE heraldry on it. A very rough WIP is shown below.

What do people think?

Cheers.

Thanks for the kind words guys, they help keep me going. :)

@Stercus Glad you like the shield. It still needs cleaned up, and some GS to cover the joints in the wing bones. Or I could leave the bones as they are, to tie in with the bones on the body. What do you think?

@Thrillhouse I really appreciate that you think that my stuff looks cohesive. I was actually a bit worried that the bone detailing on the legs would make the chest look plain, but it seems ok so far. I'm going to at least try to reclaim the arms from the leftover finecast half of Astorath, which should bring the bone detailing to the upper half of the model.

I'm considering trying to locate a tyranid gargoyle for the wings to attach to the jump pack, so if anyone has any spare gargoyles, drop me a PM.

For the ETL, I've got a few things in the pipe work. Realistically I'll vow my moritat on his own to start with, then add some more 30k stuff once he's done. For one, I have an old Leman Russ that I want to reclaim, but it'll take some tlc.

I should hopefully have some kind of updates for you all in the coming week.

That's definitely a possibility Thrillhouse. As a bonus, I could replace the DE wings with the wings from the SG, so I'd still have 5 scourges.

Thanks Stercus. I'll leave them for now. I can always change them later, if I change my mind.

Thanks guys.

Well, those mould lines may have taken a few months longer than expected, but I successfully painted one dude. :cool.: That mould line on the plasma pistol would NOT come off. The sculpt wasn't amazing. :furious:

It was one of my first attempts at painting white, and after getting fed up with doing six or so smooth layers of watered down white, I decided to weather him to bits instead.

It was also one of my first attempts at freehanding. With the weathering, I think it turned out ok.

So. New year, new thangs.

This is a WIP proof of concept for a truescale Chaos project I have on the back burner. If it ever gets off the ground, it'll probably be just for fun, though it may eventually become a Chosen kill team. Please excuse the princess Leia style buns. Everything is still held together with blutack.

http://i.imgur.com/G8C6qDZ.jpg?1

For a little bit of fun, can you guys guess which Chaos Chapter or Legion he's from?

http://i.imgur.com/V1IHydq.jpg?1

Here you can see him with a model from earlier in the plog. I plan to convert a few serfs / slaves to add a little bit of character to the models and to emphasize the scale difference.

He will be getting the GS treatment to make his legs look more like power armour, perhaps some more mutations and I'm toying with trying to make a custom shoulder pad with his Legion / Chapter symbol on it to make him a little more unique.

C+C Welcome.

So I'm still kicking, more or less.

I realised that I hadn't shared the finished pictures of my Angels Encarmine Praetor, which I put together for the Great Baalish Bake-off.

He still needs a name, so feel free to chip in with suggestions. Either that, or I go with Batty McBatFace. :teehee:

I've also put in a small bitz order to make the first of my Black Turbans to accompany my truescale Chaos Marine. I've also ordered some of GW's new sculpted plastic bases, so if you've had any experiences with them, please let me know.
