Chmur's Consecrators - UPDATE! FINALLY.

Time to necro my thread. So, after finding some players in area that were into AoS and seeing that the ruleset of AoS was far more simpler to pick-up and go (I seriously couldn't be arsed to remember all those X vs Y tables etc and gazillion rules for everything) I have abbandoned WH40K for AoS.

With the coming of 8th edition I have been excitedly expecting since it's announcement, I am diving back into it at full speed. Easy rules, nicer settings and already worked out fluff - count me in. I have only 1 game of 8th under my belt so far but I have to say, it's all I dreamed it a to be and more. And a bit less in some aspects, but definitely THE game I was waiting for.

So, after reporting to the Reclusiam to get some nice pennance for my absence, I am going to start posting some of the things that I am building now; currently converting the characters of Dark Imperium to fit into my narrative of Consecrators.

The general story is (while timeline is absurdly off to manage induction into Inner Circle after Primaris were released), that instead of blindly replacing 4th company with Primaris company, Azrael decided to shuffle things a bit in Dark Angel chapter, pull some elements of 6-9th companies and some elements from successors to fully flesh out Dark Angels at full strength for the new shiny crusade. This as well meant that the received Primaris Marines were re-shuffled along the Dark Angel companies and successors, to be initiated into the fighting structure. Here I am taking the approach that Guiliman didn't spew out combat ready marines ready to be fighting in their ranks etc, but rather a half-finished goods, Marines pretty much at the stage of their scout training, not really having yet forged hard loyalties to anyone.

(While some decided to see the issue with Primaris Marines to be outsiders and having issues implementing them, I have decided to take the approach that, in the end, they are no different to new recruits - yes, their training and starting indoctrination does not come for our own 10th companies but from the Smurf doctrine, but in the end, they fight as elements of the First and they will learn our way. And their advancement would be same as advancement of any other Marine through our IC ranks)

After several feats of strength and proving their worth in battle, some Primaris Marines were already inducted into the Inner Circle and lead the newly created 6th Strike company of (my) Consecrators.

In regards to the specific equipment of Primaris Marines (those released so far in Dark Imperium), I am building this Company in the spirit of "Deathwing" - a heavy strike company of force notch higher than your regular Marine, only without the heavy Deathwing indoctrination of every member - but once again taking artistic liberty here - with the way Consecrators work the idea is simple - either they quickly follow the doctrines, or Exterminatus happens and only the strong survive.

With that out of the way and open for discussion, I am presenting you the first works done on Kedrial, Company Master of 6th Strike Company, Consecrators.

There is a bit of conversion done in the head area, where I replaced the neck-brace and of course chosen hooded head. The idea is then to tape off the already painted area and have it, when finished, sort of "glow" out of the black armour.

I have attached multiple DA iconography on him, including swords with keys/feathers and the incense thingy on his backpack.

I am toying a little bit with the idea of painting all my Primaris "non-consecrator" shoulders in red, to make them somehow stand out.

Company Master Kedrial - Company Master of 6th Strike Company of Consecrators chapter. 6th Strike Company has been founded after final rite of passage of newly inducted Primaris Marines during Carthusia campaign, in which the new elements of Primaris Marines, under the command of Kedrial managed to secure hold of ancient 1st Legion banner. The combined elements of Primaris Inceptors, Intercessors, Agressors and Devastators proved so effective that Grand Master Nakir supported the official creation of 6th company.

Currently on the bench:

Since characters are good this edition and even the command squad special characters can be taken without the rest of the squad, I need to put together and paint my Apothecaries, Standard bearers and named characters. I have started some mock-ups yesterday evening and would like to ask for feedback/suggestions:

Venerable Brother Rael, "The Unforgiven Hammer and Anvil" "Bearer of Sigils", Ancient of 1st Company, Consecrators

http://i.imgur.com/P4NfQpA.jpg

My idea behind Brother Rael is really a "thou shall not pass" character. He will have hands magnetized to allow for CC support (as pictured) or to have a classic SB + PF combo. I have idea about magnetizing the banner after he is finished, but I am not entirely sure how yet. Any ideas are welcome.

I am as well a little bit worried that I overdid the scar on his head a bit too much. But meh.

Assasiel, Master of Repentance, Reclusiam of Consecrators Chapter

The idea of converting Prospero chaplain into Asmodai counts-as has been in my head for a while and while I am definitely going to remake him later down the road (with more bits hoarded and dremel skills increased), I will fully finish this one as Asmodai is beast in this edition and therefore there is the drive to finalize him. I will need to train a fair bit of my greenstuff skills and I fully expect to fail on the robes and cape the first time around, but that is fine.

I am very pleased with his pose, I managed (and hope to keep) to pose him a very dynamic way, only thing missing, given his temper is a shout bubble of "OH NO YOU DIDN'T" as he charges sideways on newly emerged threat.

I would like to ask about suggestions to model Blades of Reason. Every other bling even on the Crozius I am ready to improve and have bits ready for, but the Blades of Reason idea eludes me.

So you're running your own named HQ's in a "counts as" capacity then? I wondered how other successors were going to approach the "can't use DA named HQ's with successor chapters" (which is right, I'd never expect Azrael to be leading my GotC). More nice work btw!

That is how I read the rule - I cannot use Azrael to lead my force. But I don't see anything prohibiting Nakir as counts-as. Fluff-wise, I am creating my own command echelon of counts-as. As I do not do pick-up games, I do not expect any resistance from opponent or any dick behaviour. If there would be, or if I go to tournament, I will simply say I am playing DA and that's that.

I have actually participated in many discussions on this topic and today even blogged about this. But counts-as units have always been eligible and accepted. I really believe the current humbuq is really only because of the wording.

In the end, apply Wheaton's rule and move along.

Closing a weekend home alone, I managed to move my force to bit more of completion state. I started on Friday evening putting together all models from DI.

Saturday I spent working on the characters and other WIP projects I still have. I managed to knock-out first Apothecary with 2nd queved, magnetize the Deathwing Ancient, finalize my Librarian with Force Axe, try some greenstuffing on Chaplain on bike and try putting robes and cape on Asmodai counts-as. And building the Lieutenants for Covenant of Caliban.

Sunday up till now was fully dedicated to The Paladin Challenge.

Brief photos below - more information on the blog on Tuesday.

Tiguel's armour is beautiful! That winged head makes everything 10x more epic.

Cheers. Had that head lying around for long time as I wasn't partially fond of the looks for classical power armour. Then I was looking for head for Tiguel and it was either this or DV Chapter master head - after few try-outs decided for this one. Then I saw the reliquary and decided that is something that needs to be attached and the fluff idea slowly crept into my head... It wasn't until I downloaded the pics and looked at them that I realized the plan turned out even better with Gaephas' skull glaring at Tiguel's enemies through the wings on the helmet.

The champion looks awesome, like everyone else has above has said, a cool background for him too.

The chaplain is cool too a good mix of parts.

Thanks DR, praise for Consecrators from you is highly valued. Chaplain Tavi has background fluff forming, the Deathwatch shoulder was just too cool to pass up.

Man, that's some creepy fluff for the skull on his pack. Enjoyable, but creepy :laugh.:

Much appreciated. The ending feels a bit rushed, doesn't really convey the point that it should. I need to change it so that it's clear the skull is there to remind himself about his failures that day. Since, if anything, we from the 1st legion are excellent at self-righteous self-flagelling :)

Excellent work mate!  I particularly like the conversion (and name actually :smile.: ) for the First Company Champion.

The names are becoming harder and harder. The project is actually to build a completel 3rd Company and most of the 1st and some of the 1st and 2nd (definitely complete command echelon) with Grand Master Nakir, Reclusiam and Librarium. I have the whole structure planned out in excel sheet, now filling it up with existing units, and I will share this in due time - however, the main issue I am encountering right now is getting names for the figs. While the final aim is to have everyone accounted for and named, the idea is to have cool names that I find some attachment to for the main characters. But, it seems they are running out to not become repetitive.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, since I had no time to properly hobby this week (loads of work) I had time to draft up the concept of Consecrators chapter as I want to build it, over long period of time. Of course first units on the roster are units that I need to play with and want to have on the table, but the final idea is to complete 1st through 3rd Company, 6th Company and then the additional units like Grand Master Nakir, various Dreadnought units including Chaplain and Librarian Dreadnoughts... really just to play with it.

I am posting the rosters here for feedback and... to remind myself there is bigger purpose behind what I am doing :D

That is a lot of people. I wish you the best to fill those roster right up! Just curious, how much of your goal do you have already? You have a sizable force of infantry already.

And I see you haven't posted in the Armoury yet, place your work in our vaults man! :biggrin.:

Not much, actually... since most of the models I have are in DA colours with DA livery. For example, I have only half of tact squad in Consecrators colours etc. But I managed to get some boxes of terminators in, BaC and BoP boxes are coming in soon along with flyers, so they will come. The "first leg" goal is to fill at least half of DW roster and RW roster. 3rd Company shouldn't be too hard with Calth and Prospero boxes tbh, Devastators I would need regardless... But yeah, this will be heaps of fun in years to come :biggrin.:

However I found such roster - even in case I'd never completed it - helps me with keeping track of the names and I will know what squad numbers etc I want to put on them.

Oh, the Heresy boxes will get you started alright, 60 tacticals, 11 terminators, a Chaplain and a dread are overall a solid way to fill out most of your roster. Just pray to the Emperor for some patience to wrestle through all that. I had a burn-out after B@C, I have barely touched Prospero yet.

This is really a "lifetime" project. Currently pretty much on standby with "paint-to-play" to wait for what Primaris and Codex DA will bring. So I will keep painting the "fluff army" meawnwhile and chuck in between the "gaming" portion of the army. I have lots of other hobbies to pursue along WH40K, so I believe I will be alright, albeit there will come week(s) where I won't simply touch Consecrators for sure.

Not dead! Just really busy summer, playing a bit, putting together Imperium boxes and generally procrastinating. However, as the deadline for vows is coming in close and I am fresh after my vacation, it's time to put together a bit more plastic before I pick up the airbrush and start on the painting line. Newcomers to the drawer, to be completed before end of October (tournament)

And my Chessex Manufacturing order just came through customs today...
