The Dark Apostle watched his leader with barely contained disgust. Whilst he would admit that he had attained great power, it had not been used as he had promised, merely as a means to gain the favour of the Changer of the Way. That fully two thirds of the Chapter had either fallen in the Betrayal or to become one of the Changed was in no small part of the ill fortune of the Bahltimyr Reavers. No, the worst was that Rai Lurweiss seemed bent on spending what little resources they had left in a fruitless effort to bring their fate back to something worth salvaging. Most of the remaining cogent Marines were of one mind - revenge against the Steel Wings , those hated Sons of the Gorgon.

"You have something on your mind Hr'Boor."

It wasn't a question. The Lord always knew what he was thinking. Before the turn, very few exhibited any psychic talent, but in His case, that was something else to be worried about. The former Chaplain considered himself to be loyal, even after everything, but recently, he wondered if he had any chance of being able to convince Lurweiss of his folly.

"Nothing. My Lord." He remembered himself. Lurweiss knew. He
knew. And it amused him.

"Whatever worries you on this ocassion will no doubt be put to rest soon enough." Hr'Boor didn't not trust the abomination that stood next to Lurweiss. She was clothed in a ragged dark red shroud, mechadendrites idly moving, almost hypnotically.

A brief burst of data cant came from with in, before she remembered herself.

"I forget that you aren't one with the Machine, Lord." Her voice was human for the most part, insouciant and silky. It instantly made Hr'Boor uneasy. It was the voice of someone not to be trusted.

She
had recently slaughtered most of her Cabal for the chance to join the Warband.

"The terms are most agreeable, Lord." she sighed in another data burst.

"Then it is settled. You will find a way of halting the affliction that greives us. In return, we will assist you in finding more artefacts."

Hr'Boor made his excuses and left. He could not bear to hear any more. He needed to find an edge to challenge Lurweiss.

The fate of the sons of Bahltimyr depended upon it.

After more than a few years away, I've finally decided to come back around to this. It won't be my primary project, rather a slow burner to keep me sane after painting metal models! laugh.png

I did have a WIP topic in the Forge, but as I'm effectively starting again, I thought it best if I leave that one to slumber in the depths. I don't have any fresh models yet, the ones I painted in ETL III (I think) will be stripped and redone. I was never happy with the colour scheme, nor the actual painting standard. I know I can do far better.

For completeness, here are pictures from that time:

Mirosa

I'm not too keen on the currently Warpsmith, so, after seen Subtle Discords' topic on his Dark Mechanicum, I though I'd do my own counts-as:

She's still waiting for paint, so I'll have to dust her off first! laugh.png

Group shot of Rai Lurweiss, Cultists and Helbrute:

By the dark Gods, these look terrible now! sad.png

I do have other models (including a FC Dark Apostle, which decided to be very brittle and snap all over sad.png ), but I don't have any pictures, so I'll take ones as I get around to them.

Anyway, here's a brief outline of their history, what makes them tick, etc:

The Ravens of Bahltimyr were a Chapter created in the Twenty-first "Cursed" Founding, using Raven Guard geneseed. Used as a test to try to finally be rid of the instabilities of that gene strain, the Ravens of Bahltimyr were immediately rejected by the Raven Guard and were considered "Not to be sons of Corax". Indeed, there was an official edict that strictly banned them from ever approaching Deliverance and nearby systems. Hearing of this rejection, the Chapter decided to set out to prove to their kin that they were worthy of their respect. Over the years, the mind set of the Chapter was that of cold isolation and deep mistrust of any Chapter they came across, which made co-operative missions unviable as they would work alone and deliberately block any transmissions from other loyal parties.

This was to be their undoing, as one such mission with the Steel Wings resulted in heavy bombardment by the latter as the former did not receive any warning of a last ditch attempt to destroy a summoned Bloodthirster nearby. The Steel Wings scoured the site, but no survivors were found. The truth was, the ground had collapsed underneath them, burying the entire Chapter under countless tonnes of rubble. Around half of the Chapter perished then, but to compound the damage wrought, the Chapter Master forswore the Imperium and the Master of Mankind after weeks of prayer and receiving no answer. None save that of Tzeentch. The Dark God of Change allowed them to escape, but it was soon apparent that changes in some of the survivors were not beneficial at all. They became ravenous monsters, devouring all in their path. Hr'Boor the former senior Chaplain was able to retain some form of control over them, but the grasp is tenuous at best.

The Warband managed to gather enough fighting strength by subverting an Imperial Guard regiment and an alliance with a Dark Magos who claims to specialise in mutation, but is not to be trusted at all.

Revenge is at the for most of their collective minds.

Here is a preliminary list I have for 1.5K as a start. Eventually, Mirosa, Hr'Boor, the cultist group, the Learnéd (who I'll get too soon msn-wink.gif ) and other units will be added in. My approach to list making is that it should tie in with the fluff and that it has units I like (be that in terms of appearance, or again the fluff). I realise that many will find this to be of no use, but it's what I'm working with smile.png

The list has Lurweiss in Terminator armour, but I already have in Warp Talon Power Armour, so I'll have to make another list to reflect that. I think the first units I'll get will be more cultists. They're cheap from a monetary point of view and the older ones had the worst colour scheme of the ones I'd painted. Not sure when i'll be getting them, hopefully at the end of the month.

After so much piety, it's good to do a little Heresy again! happy.png

I feel your pain on the Dark Apostle, the face on mine crumbled away as I drybrushed it. :/

Soooooo will you be entering ETL with these? msn-wink.gif

Noooo, I'm with the Sisters this year tongue.png I do have to admit that I did have a lot of fun when I ran with Chaos for ETL. You never know, I might go back this way next year.

In any case, I've been tinkering with the first list to reflect that Lurweiss will also be using PA and a jump pack:

Might as well join the winning team this year, be a part of Chaos owning three years running. Plenty of time to join lesser factions in the coming years.

Thats a lot of cultists for such a small army.

Do the Terminators and Possessed next! Deffo my fave units in the dex even if ppl say they are bad.

Thanks for the offer, but I have 1.5K (or so) of Sisters to paint and I want to be able to actually field them painted! ETL will help me through that.

Two of the three units are fluffy for the 'Reavers. The Cultists are there as a meat shield/en masse "throw a weight of bodies at the enemy" because three quarters of the Marines are either dead or now one of the Changed (and their numbers are slowly rising. Tzeentch does have a sense of humour after all msn-wink.gif ). Imagine a Raven Guard equivalent of the Wulfen (but worse), that is always hyper aggressive, and have a hunger that can never, ever be sated (they will eat anything organic and have tried eating anything that isn't as well). I'll be using the Possessed for them, although I did want to convert the models so that they look suitable. I haven't got a clue where to start at the moment.

As for the Terminators, well, I have a few ideas. Something that ties into the real life inspiration their name came from msn-wink.gif
