I plan on trying out both formations. But I think the terminators would be harder to deal with since really the only way to take them out is mass shooting or some kind of death star assault unit. And if you can guarantee that you don't scatter with teleport homers they should be able to get in and kill something and at least make up some of their points. I don't think even an entire Tau gunline could take out 3 full squads of terminators, especially if you're getting the first strike and thinning their numbers.

 

I'm thinking the dreadnoughts aren't going to be as reliable since they could potentially drop in and die turn 1 without killing anything if your opponent rolls well. I think it's happened to all of us with the dreads/meltacide squads.

It's been a little less than a year since I've visited this army list. I had some success last edition with my concepts of this army. I am still wanting to hold firm on it.

The idea of this list stems from our discussions about heavy flamers and how we have better options for them.

Here is my first list I feel happy about for this edition. While I would need to remain cautious about the future of war gear, I believe the extra heavy flamers can simply become sternguard later on.

If I could find a way to include an Ancient I really think I'd want to. Doubling the ability to shoot after death and then res attempt with the priest sounds like a great combo.

While it is imperium forged rather than Blood Angel Forged, I foresee this only as until CA or our codex drops from looking at the grey knights treatment.

The difference with this list is the Flyers take the front lines with speed and counter ravens and other flyers.The razorbacks move up the board, cargoing the heavy flamer squads, which are guarded by the strong fire power from the whirl winds and devastators encircling Seth and the priest, also having Seth to counter assault any deepstrike that may attempt the alpha strike.

I usually play a hack and slash army so I don't have much experience with a shooty list, but would Dante, a Captain or a Primaris Lt work better then Seth or the Priest. You get the extra re-rolls and the are not completely worthless in combat. Just a thought.

Possibly. There's almost no CQC in my meta. If I get assaulted then I have the option to bounce out and shoot the melee units to bits.

It isn't so much about out shooting the opponent as it is having good mid to long range and decent resiliency. The Storm hawks almost always deal heavy blows to both counter air and hordes/T7.

The obnoxious Monolith Spam is a bit of a problem, but I usually do enough damage to the Necron Spiders that the hordes have a long walk.

The Tau are still a problem, but the whirl winds really help, (except if someone brings a taunar) and you don't want to deep strike into those bloody flamer suits.

I have a strong match up against most of the nids, but smite spam is still a problem.

I feel like I have just enough T7 to force my opponents' target priority. I'll play around with it as this list isn't set in stone.

You can't stack Artisan of War on the Hammer of Baal unfortunately as it is a relic and the trait seems a bit wasted on a Stormbolter.

If you drop the relic and just take a regular TH, that will save you a CP since you already have the Standard of Sacrifice as your free Relic.

Alternatively keep the Hammer of Baal and change your warlord trait to Gift of Foresight and give him Death Visions of Sanguinius. Now your Warlord gets 5 attacks, hitting on 2s and rerolling 1s. He also has a 2+/4++/5+++ save rerolling 1s on the FNP. Not quite as fast as Captain Smashypants but considerably more durable.

Yeah, I knew that. It was a miss click on Battle Scribe and I didn't catch it.

Basically this was to take Karlean, I would give him Gift of foresight, or make the Sanguinor the Warlord.

I'm glad you guys like it. Like I said, I think it has some legs. The only thing I've thought about tweaking on this list is making the Spearhead detachment a <Flesh Tearers> keyword instead, and switching mephiston with Gabriel Seth so the devastators and possibly razorbacks can re-roll misses. I'm glad you guys like it. Like I said, I think it has some legs. The only thing I've thought about tweaking on this list is making the Spearhead detachment a <Flesh Tearers> keyword instead, and switching mephiston with Gabriel Seth so the devastators and possibly razorbacks can re-roll misses. As well as being a counter charge unit to protect the back field. I don't like that idea as far as fluff goes, because Seth needs to be in the thick of it. But the tactic feels right.


Mephy is such a beast though, and the 3+ from the devastators is fine imo.

I really like these lists. Of course any list could be tweaked but this is very close to the kind of list I am building.

It's a bit of a shame but we are probably more mono build than ever.

Scouts should carry troops but I am not convinced they need a heavy weapon (even though I have HBs on mine).

Like the idea of lascannon devs, 2+ BS and 2 rounds of shooting is great and no -1 to hit from moving like scouts.

Bikes. Too often overlooked in BA lists and absolutely awesome.

I just love SG now too. If you have a few ASM squads and a decent DC presence on the enemies inline SG can really pick their line apart.

I've tried liking DC this edition, and they have just been rubbish for me. They are an expensive target that goes down quick. 6++ is worthless. I've moved most of my lists away from them.

Let's not forget about cluster mines also for Scout Bikers. 

Heavy Bolters have really been ace for me. I could drop them for 20 points freed up into something else if need be. If I did do that I would just put storm bolters on everything else.

Looks like a solid list - but do you get the extra 3 CP for battleforged if you only have 1 detachment? The three Preds offer tremendous firepower, I like it. Only thing I could see is that you’re a bit short on actual assault troops with the SG being the only, if very durable, option in that regard. Did you manage to try it out yet?

Yes you get the additional 3CP for being battle forged.

I have not tried it out yet. I plan on taking it for a spin soon though.

My thought process is the guard are more durable than DC and hold a sizable foot print. Having the Sanguinor as war lord gives them that extra attack they desperately need, followed by full re-rolls being close to the war lord.

There is also the element of having a strong castle, and a midfield presence. I'm curious to see how only the one big SG unit will perform. If I'm unhappy with the results I'll move some stuff around.

Oh yeah, checked that. 14 CP is very good indeed.

I was struggling to put a brigade together for BA because all the extra choices from HS and Assault units sort of screwed me over in the elites department, and I don’t want to spend 90€ on scout bikes :(
Nicely done though!

Oh and you *could* obviously swap the intercessors for more scouts to get points for the Sang Priest, 102 points for swapping those if I’m not mistaken.

I could take the storm bolters off the preds, and swords off the sergeants which is 18 points combined. Substituting the lieutenant would give me the 85ish points I need for a jump pack priest.

The regular space marine bikers are a good option too. Melta, grav, or plasma are all solid options. Bikers are > Assault marines with the same load out by 2 fold in my opinion.
