This game has been so much fun just in the Beta. Looking forward to many many more hours playing this. There is no better feeling in the world than catching a Xenos/Traitor ship between two broadsides.

Except maybe pushing a cruiser into a plasma bomb with your Firestorm tongue.png Wish I had screencapped that...

Anyone else have a save issue? Had to step away shortly after I played the campaign earlier and had to redo the escort mission to Bladen. Failed it twice in a row now which sucks because I beat it the first time.... wallbash.gif

I bought it couple days ago and I wish they had a very-easy mode. The escort (and intercept) mission, and the keep the data mission both seem impossible. That and when I tried the dirty space elves the sheer amount of micro-management required was insane.

For the escort mission, put the transports on the far side of the map in a column. Then immediately start using the all ahead full maneuver. Put your other ships just on the side of them, so you can use them to intercept the enemy. Since the enemy can only come from one side, it makes it a lot easier. When I started doing that, I never lost.

For the Intel one, wait until you can warp out before you teleport or steal it. Try to get a ship with full shields to be the one that takes it. If the best time to steal it happens to be before you can use warp, as soon as you get it use the micro warp jump and burn your boost to get away as fast as possible, and warp as soon as you can.

But whatever you do, do NOT steal the Intel if you have more than 10 seconds before you can warp out. And if you are defending, just keep your ship away.

You mean you can win the escort mission? Teach me your secrets!

I tried multiplayer. Couldn't even kill an escort but had my 2 cruisers and escort slaughtered.

Have not tried Multi yet. That's next on my list after I get a little more comfortable at the helm.

I love it but I suck. I struggle on easy. Seems brutally difficult. The AI Flat out ignoring you for objectives is a pain too.

I even lost my first Cruiser the first time I used it! Damn Ork Kroozer just slapped it silly.

Yeah the Ork's tenacity to just zoom right through your ships (literally....) towards your transports is both accurate and disheartening, especially in the sluggishly slow Imp Navy ships

I have yet to beat Eldar in skirmish...those Holofields are ridiculous. I think Stasis bombs might help but they dodge my bombs with such grace it's ridiculous...

That's what I had been doing. Took 3 more times and I finally won it again. I think I got incredibly lucky the first match as their Line ships were all stacked on the far side of the map and didn't get to do much. The two subsequent matches they seemed to be right in the thick of my transports from the start. Filthy greenskins....

I can see where "Taunt" would be a useful upgrade to have.

Also I think I picked the worst Cruiser.... (Tyrant). For whatever reason the Plasma Macro's seemed appealing at the time and I was anxious to get into a scrap.... Except that the Tyrant is slow (ok they are all slow) and the Plasma Macro's, while having 12k range, don't match up well with your other Macro's, and being side mounted means your spending a lot of the time turning your very slow ship to get a firing solution. AND Plasma does less damage than normal Macros! wallbash.gif Really want to scrap this junker and look at my other options.

Always ALWAYs read the stats thoroughly gents.

From chatting to people who beta'd extensively:

Dauntless = win, only mk1 (lance one) just set it to frontal engage as the lance does cruiser broadside damage

Dominator = most macrocannons & nova is just win

Gothic = lances are great v chaos & imperial rebels, not so much eldar

Battle Cruisers = Mars or bust, basically.

Emperor = apparently the only bs worth getting

I use the Tyrant, too. Honestly, my build (I don't remember the battleship name) for fleets on skirmish is like this:

One battleship: retribution (the one with all the cannons)

One battlecruiser (the one with all the cannons) (overlord?)

One gothic cruiser or tyrant depending on damage states, preferably gothic.

Three firestorm frigates.

I always put the firestorm frigates at forward facing, and put all of my capital ships at 6km (or less).

All cap ships have micro jump and shield recharge boost.

My escorts all have extended augury upgrades, so I send them out ahead.

I generally try to micro jump my ships so that I can unleash a full barrage of torpedoes right into their ships, then do a turn maneuver to quickly broadside them, or all ahead full to ram them, then turn to broadside right after that.

I don't do MP, but I haven't lost a skirmish.

Also, I never use the nova cannons

I win 4/5 of my escort missions using a simple tactic, destroy his fleet first.

I put all my ships one side my fleet near them, I hit  him hard before he gets there (ramming/boarding actions). I take out his main ship, you'll find if someone looses their bigger ships they tend to panic and warp out. I've got video of the tactics somewhere, I will try and dig them out.

I think that, both to my liking and to my annoyance, the AI can be a bit OP, especially during the campaign.  That being said, your forces can also lay the utter smack down on most of the engagements if you set them up correctly.  I'm probably 50/50 on escort missions, but I only do them when required.  Even so, I place one column of transports on each edge of the board with my escorts split and then book it across the board.  Usually the AI has concentrated their force to one side and I can squeak past.  I'd much rather slug it out in a cruiser clash.

On the data mission, if I'm defending, I simply place my flagship in a corner and have it head to the other corner on my side of the map.  The rest of the ships screen and the 3 minutes is about what it takes from one end to the other of your deployment zone.  I keep my "All Ahead Full" in reserve and also have micro-jump.  I haven't lost one of those yet.

There are two things that I find myself disliking:

1.  The zoom out isn't big enough.  If I have to micromanage as much as Armada requires, then I need to be able to see everything that is going on.  A more expansive view wouldn't keep me stuck in the immediacy of one skirmish amongst many during a battle.

2.  The Orks are silly.  I'm sure they balance out somewhat in skirmish mode, but it's impossible to keep them at distance during the campaign and I've had numerous missions where I shouldn't have lost ships, but the strategy is just charge and ram and only the Eldar are actually fast enough to evade.

I am truly loving the game, however.

I was an early adopter and logged 53 hours in the game so far. I love it, but I may have burned out on it early. Still, It's a jolly fun game! A few niggles bug me, but overall i'm having a blast.

They really need to fix one thing however... If you manage to deal the finishing blow on a vessel and it manages to warp out, then it counts as getting away. It should be a burning, blasted wreck as it is torn apart by the warp! I lost the assassination mission against the eldar because of this! I bloody killed the ship and yet I still lost! (also I won the game where I had to defend the inquisitor from chaos because of this bug. I still have the Hand of Darkness, so what now abadon?!)
