ETL V is coming...

Recommended Posts

I always love this event every year. Hopefully I will be getting the rest of my Skitaii to add into this. Since I couldn't wait with my knights.

And no ETL is complete without Dread! Welcome back! :)

Initially, I was thinking I might sit out this ETL, but then I got to looking at what I have on-hand, and what's on order, and there yet may be at least one pledge in me.

  • 20 Electro-Priests (well, 5 have already gotten the beginnings of painting, but didn't like where they were going, so it's a purple bath for them)
  • 1 Kastelan Robots box
  • 4 Castellax Battle-Automata (CA Kastelans)
  • Wargame Exclusive Female Mechanicum Inquisitor, and HiTech Salvo IX and Tech Master Baltazar (CA Datasmiths)
  • A mix of unassembled, unpainted Knights (though those may wait)

Now I've just gotta weigh ETL painting with painting for another couple games...

Can someone explain to a forum noob what ETL is?

Seems like some sort of painting challenge where you vow to paint a set amount in a set time.

The downside is, I've just painted 1500 points of admech from mid February to now, so Don't have much more painting left in me for a while!

Simple version: It's an inter-forum painting competition (Age of Darkness vs. Chaos vs. ...). Individual members of each forum vow to complete X points of models (in legal units) over the three month period (mid-May to mid-August). You're limited on the points you can vow at a time, but you can have up to five vows over the competition period. Any incomplete vows at the close of the competition count against your forums total, and the forum with the highest weighted total points wins.

Not-so-simple version: here's last years main ETL thread with the full rules.

Good effort Carlson!

@ Notts: the ETL is indeed a painting event along the lines Carlson said. You can pledge to paint any number of legal units capped at 3,000pts per vow and you have up to 5 vows. Obviously these are the maximum limits but most people do significantly less (the average vow last year was 600pts) so don't be intimidated.

You also get to choose a faction, which you cannot change during the event. You can only pledge units that can legally be used by your chosen faction. Then the cumulative points of all the participants of each faction are added up and the faction with the most points wins the title of Primus Inter Pares, i.e. ETL champions for the year.

If you complete your vows you'll receive the prestigious Custos Fidei badge no matter how well your faction does. If you fail to complete your second or indeed any subsequent vow then all the previously completed points get nullified and count for nothing. So be extra careful when you up the stakes.

Having said all the above, please take a look at last year's rules (link in Carlson's post above) and feel free to ask any questions. :)

Welcome Notts! For the past 4 years this has been the one comp I look forward to the most. It helps get the lead out of my butt and work on one army or another. This year I started my imperial knight and skitarii army. I was so excited by the models I couldn't wait so have most painted already. However I got another box of the collect skitarii sets and have the renegades box in route, which allow me to be in this prestigious event. Putting a completely painted army on the table is a nice thing even tho I still field a lot of plastic and primed ones in games, this army happens to be that one I've waited for the longest. This comp is fun and quite simple to do and the bragging rights are good to have too. So get ready and pledge away for Mars and all mechanical builders through the imperium. We shall prevail, sorry my Grey Knight brethern.

Right then, one more day until the ETL starts. I assume that, of course, the servants of the Omnissiah have been busy in preparation. The Machine God expects and demands such efficiency. Last year with the blessings of a new codex the scions of Mars did well, but there's that elephant in the room of a 58.4% completion rate.

I'm sure it doesn't need saying that this was insufficient, the Omnissiah must be appeased with suitable work. I am confident that His Guard will retain the crown of "best in IFOR" with our reliable output. Think I'm wrong? Well, you better prove it then msn-wink.gif
