So, with DoW3 round the corner (HYPE). Ahem. I've decided to start another project. Ultimately there is seemingly next to nothing on the Blood Ravens in general, apart from speculation and that whole chaos incident they had. This thread will start with the remnants of the 5th company after the chapter schism, tested and tried in the fires of war between brothers. At some point I may even delve into 'The Fated', the previous 5th company who disappeared into the warp. We'll see. Currently going for a very mixed equipment sorta look, to represent the resorting to mixes of armour and weaponary, and they're all tooled up to the nines with pistols, blades, 'nades and pouches.

Without further ado, the first 5 built members of 5th company - who due to such tragic times have had to resort to using chapter relics and older pattern equipment in the aftermath of the bitter wars - both on Kaurava with the loss of 5 whole companies, and the heresy of the chapter master Kyras and the subsequent inter-chapter war.

I never thought I'd see a Raptor help on a Loyalist...Or perhaps "Loyalist"...msn-wink.gif

They look great, and I can't wait to see them painted up!

Well, lets just say not all of the 5th stayed true to their oaths... But for that marine, just wanted to see how it went. Found out the Raptor heads really add a large 'chaos' vibe.

If I went back to marines, BR would very likely be the ones is chose. Do the chapter proud brother.

Of course, brother. Feel they deserve some love around here

Thanks bro! He was probably the most fun to make, I do love me some mkVIII armour, especially with the head. Think it works quite well on heavy support guys.

The did with the sword does it for me, truly wonderful, though I could see him be a librarian, Don't know why though.

Oh ho ho...you've sparked my creativity there. Not every psychic marine ended a librarian...

So, had time to try a few red schemes, and narrowed it down to two choices really. Much duller red, or a shinier brighter red. Here's a pic with them for comparison, would appreciate any thoughts you have. Preference?

Also managed to finish the 6th member of Persion squad. And finally, depending on whether or not he goes to another legion, there might be the first Terminator veteran (most of his armament is a 'gift' from the blood angels, for assistance)

Nice Blood Ravens. I'm curious as to why you didn't put equipment on the back of their waist though.

And Tyberos' body is awesome with a shield and a hammer, isn't he? laugh.png

This is my first time really putting equipment on marines (kudos for the idea, btw, stole it somewhat off seeing yours), so I've just been going for front and side of waist so far. A few might also get a knife/equip pouches/grenades as well, I'll go over everyone once I've built all 10.

And damn, there goes shield and hammer :lol: Still, he looks cool with hammer and claw, but in that figuration he's going to be a heresy terminator...no blood raven armour for him.

And please, do keep the storm shield. It's your model, of course, but I feel it looks better than the chainclaw. If you feel you're stealing someone's thunder with a similar pose or kitbashing, well, you can still ask for permission with a PM. I wouldn't do that myself, but that's because I'm a bloody magpie who swoops down on kitbashes I like to copy them without remorse. tongue.png

And kudos for making that awful World Eater helmet look good. laugh.png

If you feel you're stealing someone's thunder with a similar pose or kitbashing, well, you can still ask for permission with a PM. Hah :lol: I'm still deciding on the SS/Hammer, because even though the blood magpies (are you sure you wouldn't fit in? ;) ) steal everything, A full BA shield with iconography might be a step too far. I'll see how it looks later. Shhhhhh, Captain never needs to know... o_o

It does look a lot better on a terminator than a marine. Luckily it wasn't the Easter Bunny edition :P

Yeah, you might need the regular storm shield for that guy. Such a shame there's no Blood Ravens etched brass, it would have worked wonder on one of the smaller storm shields (like on my own Tyberos World Eater conversion).

On one hand, I hope they don't get rid of all their gifts, but on the other hand it was getting out of line. When you have Custodes armour, Grey Knights armour, Custodes bolters, and bloody Forgebreaker (because primarch weapons are all the rage (how even do you steal something from Pertuarbo?!)), you know your gene-seed is causing a small amount of Kleptomania.

Kinda want to see the Talon of Horus pop up in their collection in DoW III now... tongue.png

I think i read somewhere (possibly a HH story) something that suggested that Blood Ravens might actually be a thousand sons successor. The red pre-heresy colour scheme and a loyalist thousand son who's squad symbol was a raven? Also ties in nicely with the BR propensity for large amounts of psychic recruits and a large percentage of librarians when compared to other loyalist chapters.

Any which way, always glad to see someone bringing the ravens to life on the battlefield smile.png

Dull red. Glossy red looks like he's just covered in blood and they're already stealing enough from others.

Definitely the dull red. Dunno why, but a more dull red seems to suit the Blood Ravens a lot better than a vibrant red.

So, what you're all trying to say, is I should go with bright red? msn-wink.gif Dull red seems to have won hands down. Though I have made a slight alteration of a slighly bright drybrush to bring the shade up a tad, works better in person and will complement the details nicer than the odd dull red there was previously. Depending on how the Sgt comes out, I'll see about dropping the red down a bit more.

Progress on painting, but right now focused on exams, so painting progress is slow...

But I have done a bit more modeling, so I present Company Champion Theus, The Dawn. As a side note, there will be two company champions, the Dawn and the Dusk. I'll explain this and the fluff behind Theus when he's painted smile.png

The red pre-heresy colour scheme and a loyalist thousand son who's squad symbol was a raven? Also ties in nicely with the BR propensity for large amounts of psychic recruits and a large percentage of librarians when compared to other loyalist chapters.

Thanks smile.png Hopefully I live up to expectations. Between the HH symbol, psyker amount, colours, and the fact a HH TS character from the Corvidae (family to which ravens belong) was named Arvida - similar to Vidya, the first chapter master guy. There will certainly be a fair amount of psykers, and I decided since no-one else was going to be starting them, I might as well pounce on the opportunity.

On second thought, might switch out the champions left arm to holding a weapon ,as pointing makes him too similar to the Sgt.
