Five years with the Harlanite Interior Guard and three years of indentured service in the Penitent 134th have hardened him to the vagaries of combat and left their marks on both his body and soul. Lean and rangy in stature, Nolan Reeve nevertheless has retained the physical attractiveness that was a major part of his success as a criminal.
Nolan Reeve possesses a certain rakish charm and pleasant demeanour at odds with his status as a Penal Legionnaire but entirely in line with his past as a confidence trickster and black marketeer. However, this smiling façade covers hidden depths and after three years in a Penal Legion, Reeve is no longer sickened or surprised by the violence and degradation of life in the 41st Millenium.
Rank/Position: Penal Legionnaire serving with the Penitent 134th
A petty thief, smuggler and confidence trickster born and living on Harlan's World, Nolan Reeve was forcibly 'recruited' to the Imperial Guard during a tithed Founding and found himself enlisted with the Harlanite Interior Guard. Not relishing the prospect of a short but brutal experience on the frontlines, Reeve bent his considerable charm and talents towards ensuring that he would never be posted to a frontline combat unit and instead could profit from the various underground and illicit trading rings that are a natural part of life in the glorious Imperial Guard.
Five years of faked and coerced medical certificates, fabricated paperwork, favours, blackmail, manipulation of Administratum staff and dockets, outright lies and a profitable run in blackmarket trading ensured that Nolan Reeve avoided any frontline combat whatsoever while also accruing a sizable fortune in Imperial crowns and credits. When he was eventually caught by Administratum data-scourges and the Commissariat, it was joked that his standard issue lasrifle had never actually been fired in anger and still bore the trigger stud seal.
Standing trial at a military tribunal, the presiding Commissar-Judge decreed that in an act of karmic justice, the man who had so diligently avoided combat would not be executed but would be exposed to the most immediate horrors of combat in the form of transfer to a Penal Legion. There, it was hoped, Nolan Reeve would learn that duty was a serious weight to carry.
Three years of service in the Penal Legion known as the Penitent 134th has hardened Reeve into a competent killer and removed the boyish and jocular charm that he once possessed. Instead, Nolan Reeve is now as charming as a serpent, and as dangerous as one in the right circumstances.
Nolan Reeve has never had any previous direct contact with the Inquisition.
The indentured of Reeve's Penal Regiment are issued with a sole sidearm that they are expected to carry at all times, with ammunition being supplied as and when they are deployed. Additional arms such as lasrifles or autoguns are provided if stocks or mission circumstances allow. The standard issue sidearm is the Arrum 9 series combination laspistol, commonly referred to as the Jackal. The Arrum 9 utilises a cylindrical breech-loaded charge pack for main offensive use and a single-shot hard-round chamber that can use specialist ammunition. These hard-round types were usually issued to fit a mission parameter and could range from incendiary to armour piercing to flechette.
As might be expected of a Penal Legionnaire, Nolan Reeve also possesses a number of handmade blades and is skilled in the preparation and use of improvised weapons. Basic Imperial Guard training has also made him proficient with las and auto rifles.
Nolan Reeve currently only possesses his Penal Legion fatigues
Nolan Reeve currently only possesses his Jackal and a number of homemade blades. However, he is skilled at acquiring whatever he needs within a short amount of time.
An Ork tooth – a trophy from Reeve’s first deployment with the Penitent 134th against the xenos menace of the Grashkal Tribe. The Orkoid beast in question was responsible for nineteen deaths in Reeve’s unit before it was eventually brought down.
Marked deck of cards – a typical tool of the conman and trickster, this deck of playing cards has been marked so that Reeve is able to manipulate and control seemingly simple games of chance.
