I'd always assumed the same so it was a surprise to me.  I'd forgotten the promise to be honest.

 

She says she actually enjoyed it and may have another go some day.

 

But back to painting this evening :)

So in a moment of "divine" sleep deprivation (aka caffeine induced zombiesm) I may or may not have painted two right lascannons for my test model instead of a left and a right one! cool.png

Either that or I was listening to Beyonce, which is a terrifying thought in and of itself...so I'm going with sleep deprivation. With that in mind, please forgive the missing secondary cannon for the test model in this WIP post...as you can see the intended cannons compatriot is waiting for another chassis to be completed. There isn't a huge amount to do with Tarantulas, so I really focused on trying to keep the components matching with my other vehicles paint schemes.

So keep that in mind if you're wondering my mad hatter esque reason for making the dark red plates on the top with the instruments and generator components being painted as they are (see the "Rust Scorpions" link in my signature and look at the back of the Leman Russ Incinerators and/or Dracosans, etc.). If the scheme seems odd, please keep in mind there is close to 4,000 points of matching Solaris Auxilia to back it up!

I did experiment with making the lascannons appear to be mid-firing by using a Khorne Red > Wild Rider Red > Screaming Bell > Bloodletter Glaze since the the actual cannons have a very convenient indentation that precludes drilling in them. It's hard to make out the metallic in the shots due to the way the photo tent lights can wash things out at times but it gives a nice little glint with a warm red, which I hope looks like the Lascannon is literally mid-firing.

Anyways, here is my WIP update, I hope to be done tonight quite frankly but I will need to see how things go this afternoon before promising that.

@ Audemus: Yeap, sleep depravation it is. Can't bear to think the alternative. Those Tarantulas look awesome and as long as they are not fuchsia with little turquoise elephants painted on it, I have not questions on your chosen scheme. They look awesome mate!

Wow, I feel weird saying, but that is one hell of a boot paint job.  I'd be nervous as hell putting that much work into something prior to finishing the other layers on the model, I have a bad habit of accidentally having a bit of paint on my thumb and bumping into completed areas so I literally paint the entire layer all at once when I'm working on assembly line to allow for easier cover up.  Bravo though, I can't wait to see the finished model!

That's actually one of the reasons I've started using this approach when I'm not doing assembly line jobs, i used to do that all the time. Now I find I'm much more aware of stray paint on my hands before I touch anything.

 

I just hope I get the rest done with enough time to consider additional vows.

I don't know if it's just the lighting, but it does look a lot more green than your previous pics of it. Any chance of a glimpse under different light?
