Once dry, I did a Drybrush of Skarsnik Green, then a light Drybrush of Nurgling Green. DuskRaider Posted September 11, 2016 Author Share Posted September 11, 2016 Update time... I've been plugging away at the red redo for the Despoilers. A little half of them now have their crimson. As you can see, the first batch has had their black and base silver trim added. Also, the first five Cataphractii Terminators are pretty much done, although I just noticed the studs on their pteurges aren't picked out so I'll do that once this update is complete. And that fellow with the skeleton puppet on his back, I cant help but laugh. I can just imagine it screaming "Come at me bro!!" When it comes to special weapons, I can't go past meltas. I've got Heavy Flamer, Reaper Autocannon, or Plasma Blaster to choose from... all of the Terminators will be armed with twin-Lightning Claws except the Special Weapons dudes, which will have Chain Fists. I don't have any experience with 30k but I can tell you the 40k equivalent of the Reaper is disappointing, especially against power-armored foes, who tend to shrug it off. I'm thinking more of range since Lightning Claws have a range of uhh... in you're face. I may just say screw it and go Plasma Blasters. @Rangman: Thanks! I'm pretty happy with them myself... I was a bit iffy with the gold masks, but they turned out nice. Regal, yet menacing. @JBlevins: the body is from the FW Khorne Herald. It's such a cool bit that I had no choice but to use it. Here's the five Cataphractii Terminators I'm working on to round out the squad. As your can see, three of the five are armed with twin Lightning Claws while the other two have Chain Fists and Plasma Blasters. This will bring the squad to eight twin Lightning Claw armed Cataphractii. Will they be effective? *shrug* This force is themed around the idea of fanatics. These are the guys that Lorgar sent to their certain doom because they were such nutjobs that had become a liability. The core of the army is Despoilers, so I figured why not take that idea, but do it with the Terminators as well? These guys give the World Eaters a run for their money in terms of psycopathy. I went easy on the trophies and such... unfortunately, I have no cool back banners to use to have them match the other five, but I may add candles or something to the top of the armour instead. Four of the five helms are FW Chaos Berserker heads shaved down. I ran out of Justaerin helms, but I wanted them to still look unique... honestly, it makes me want to redo the others the same way, haha. Here's the pics, enjoy! I was reminded a few days ago that I still have my Dark Vengeance Dreadnoughts to paint as the Crimson Faithful. One is already assembled and primed as the stock model from the box and I had another lying around still on the frame, so I decided to try customizing it a little bit. While I like the Multi-Melta, I'm more a fan of Plasma Cannons... especially because most of the folks I game with run a variant of the Pride of the Legion RoW and that blast template really causes headaches for Terminators. I had ordered bits from the HelBrute kit earlier to attempt making a third Mhara Gal out of a Chaos Decimator (don't bother it's WAY too big). So along with hacking up the Plasma Cannon to use, I also swapped the head out. I was thinking of trying to cut the casque and replace that as well, but it's molded in there pretty good and I didn't want to ruin the model. I added proper claws using bits I had lying around from an old Chaos Spawn kit, then placed some candles on top and a few meat hooks and viola! DuskRaider Posted September 24, 2016 Author Share Posted September 24, 2016 The Faithful Gather... Here's a worthy update... 24 of the 40 Despoilers are now completed. I'm not going to lie, it felt a bit daunting doing this many at once, but in the end it was worth it. This would be the backbone of the army, although now that it's grown to the size it is, I feel the desire to expand the Despoiler Squads to 20 each... maybe with the Prospero box. I'm currently working on the remaining 16 right now, along with any of the Heavy / Special Weapons Astartes in grey AND one of two Castriferrum Dreadnoughts all at once. Hopefully in the next month or so, I'll be able to post a fully completed (to this point) Word Bearers army. So here we go...
