I'm not sold on David's Ultra's.... but I'll patiently wait for the formal release. I did enjoy the BaC novels, but less so the Word Bearer's side from David. Still both were enjoyable and I imagine it was a bit difficult to co-ordinate such an effort. I admit I might just be bitter because that's it for Ultra's and Abnett.... Saul Invictus Posted May 28, 2016 Share Posted May 28, 2016 I've only read the first chapter, it's my current 'lunch break in work if I manage to get a few minutes' book, but it struck me straight away as a Primarch reference, especially knowing that one of the missing two was found early on, and this being close to Terra. I will get this as soon as it's out but I pre-ordered most of the 'special' release novels and had mixed feelings about it. This one I'll just wait on the normal edition... heck I might just get digital. I mean my book cases are extremely full of Horus Heresy hardbacks and.... Arthur C. Clarke... lol. Legatus Posted August 30, 2016 Share Posted August 30, 2016 I have had a chance to look into it, only through the first chapter so far. Unfortunately things are not that promising. Consul Gallan as called "Gallon" tjhroughout the entire chapter. A Character already mentioned the "Osiris" incident, referencing the shameful "exemplary battle" from the Forgeworld's Ultramarines treatment in 'Tempest', and all the Ultramarines constantly speak of "theoreticals" and "practicals" (thanks a lot, Dan Abnett), which is really annoying and comes off more like a weird character quirk than anything sensible. There is also too much playful banter between the Ultramarines for my taste. But perhaps it will get better as the book progresses. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Most of the Terrans where in the Destroyer Companies and I would say they were very insular, they didn't fit in and very much liked being Destroyers. Guilliman wanted to integrate them into Ultramars way of thinking and gave them a Captain to try and integrate them more. But Guilliman from what I remember was not a big fan of Destroyers, a means to an end he just didn't like to use, which is a trait you see in Angels of Caliban. The vibe I got was that there was animosity towards the Chapter because of their role, not their origin, as some of them were from Ultramar.
