The Sanguine Blades have a rich background in honorable duels. I am certain he would never initiate an attack without making Knol Grann without the normal introductions and salute.

"Sergeant Grann, it is an honor to do battle with a Blood Owl. Our chapter share a similar past in that we are both recovering from the loses of war. I hope in crossing blades the bonds of blood between our chapters may grow stronger."

Though considering Sergeant Grann is a specialist in infiltration, it seems, I'm not sure if I could expect the same courtesy....

In a twist of fate, Kholl Grann of the Blood Owls, whom arrived at the arena first, is the first to fight. Perhaps he was ambushed by Fayyad of the Sanguine Blades?

Gauss and bolter fire filled the air as Brutus and his brothers lie in wait.

As the drop pod landed, the deathmarks appeared... right on time.

"Now!" Brutus commanded.

The squad of veterans flew from the ruins and smashed into the necron scum.

In seconds the deathmarks were no more than piles of scrap metal.

Though Brutus was too slow to land a killing blow, he still savored orchestrating such a crushing assault, as any son of Sangunius should.

"Triarch Stalker incoming." Brutus voxed to his squad.

It was too late, the gauss cannon went through Folco's armour without remorse. It will pay.

As the rest of the squad's power swords bounced off the necron armor, Capt. Macer dropped down, seemingly out of nowhere, and slashed with his shining relic blade, landing a devastating blow.

Brutus saw his opening and followed up, thrusting forwards while punching the necron monstrosity with all his might. It staggered backwards away from the Revenants.

"We are leaving now." stated Capt. Macer

"Sir, the battle." Brutus remarked

"Victory is secured. You have a different battle to fight." Capt. Macer said calmly

"Sir?" Brutus questioned

"Baal awaits, the Feast of Blades calls you."

+++++

Brutus is coming in to this with a lot of pent up frustration from that battle... (he was also given a secondary mission of trying to strengthen the bonds between all our chapters so that when the day comes we can unite!) but that's a secret...

Fayyad knows Blood Lance and Blood Boil – potentially powerful in this arena!

Kholl Grann Takes the initiative with a natural 6, while Fayyad is wrong footed on a 1!

Dropping lightly to his feet from his tree top location, Grann unholstered his combat shotgun as he fell, unloading both barrels in Fayyad’s direction! Fayyad ducked out of the way, but the veteran sergeant had fought a thousand foes in his life, and easily predicted the psykers movements, hitting him with both shots! Knowing a bead was drawn, Fayyad saw no sense in evading, and calmly swatted the shells from the air in front of him.

Grann Laughed and straightend, eyeing the librarian with a glint in his eye.

“Well met, old friend. I had to make sure your powers were working, I want this to be a fair fight”

Fayyad grinned back, ferally, planted the staff of Gillian firmly onto the rock, the sound echoing in the stone arena.

“You might be wearing reconnaissance armour, but I don’t need my powers to hear that beard rustle, Kholl. Obviously your combat blade has dulled?”

“Perhaps, perhaps”, Kholl returned “But I use this these days” he said, raising his power fist, and activating it with a thought. Arcs of lightning danced between the knuckles. “Care to try it for yourself? Prepare for combat.” Fayyad widened his stance in preparation for Kholl’s inevitable fast strike…

Now draw! Kholl lunged toward Fayyad as Fayyad drew his pistol. Kholl’s charge stalled as Fayyad drew a bead and hit him squarely in the shoulder pad. “My turn” Fayyad intoned as he strode forward, his eyes glowing with witch light, his ornate staff doing the same…an outstretched hand…and Kholl felt the temperature rise…SNAKE EYES, Kholl is made of sterner stuff than that. Enraged at losing the fast knock out, Fayyad sent a red lance of energy towards Grann, who, still shaking off the effects of Blood Boil, couldn’t dodge in time…the beam of light punched through Kholl's Primary heart. Sergeant Grann dropped to one knee, his eyes widening, and spitting a wad of congealed matter, he lowered his head and opened his mouth “I submit, the honour is yours this day”.

+++Fayyad Wins+++

Wow, those psychic powers turned out to be really powerful, it was almost over for Grann, until he got the double one on blood boil. Unfortunately, all those rerolls still couldn’t stop blood lance from being cast with the power of Gallians staff, nor rerolls for his camo cloak or being a rugged veteran.

Well done to Fayyad, who progresses to the next round, while Kholl Grann gets a trip to the Sanguinary Priests.

Willing his Larraman cells to clot, Kholl dragged himself to his feet once more. He locked eyes with Fayyad, spat out another mouthful of blood, and flashed a blood-stained grin.

"Well fought, brother. Now, you wouldn't happen to have a cloth I could borrow? I appear to have a hole."

Fayyad stepped forward towards Kholl, the witch light slowly fading from his eyes, and produced a white sterile cloth from his belt satchel. Handing it to Knoll he said, as the last of the witch light faded from his eyes, "I believe I may have gone a bit overboard. I hope you take it as an honor that I doubt I could best you if I held back."

So quick question about the rules here. Does Fayyad have those powers for the rest of the tournament, or does he re-roll every fight?

Good question. My first thought was to let him keep them, but if the other fights descend into Librarians blood boiling everyone, I might reroll per round. That said, it balances out the the storm shields with re-rolls, since it allows no saves of any kind

Man, that double one on the blood boil test for Grann...pure NOPE! That guy's tough.

Hopefully my writing did your characters justice, also.

Something tells me a dual grav pistol wielding captain would have wiped the floor in this.

They might not have done so well vs Kholl Grann with his 4+ save, but it is a good option. Same applied to a combi plasma/combi grav. 2 - 3 re-rolls to help with wounds and you're golden - next year?

I have to say when I was looking at the entrants I didn't particularly like my chances. Kitting away and Blood Boiling people might be the only way to make it through some of the 2+/3++ participants.

Of course it did! Wonderful writing. Gives me something to aspire to in my own attempts at writing.

Thanks all!

If anyone's wondering, Charlo's fight scene will be something like this

From his throne in the stands Lord Dante's eyebrows were raised in surprise, an exceedingly rare thing for a man who'd lived 1100 years, as he watched Sergeant Darrtoriel continue beating the now unconcious Chaplain Darr'knight with the icepick he'd conjured from seemingly nowhere. Apparently he'd not liked the good Chaplain's musical number.

"Hmm, perhaps this year will be more interesting than I thought."

"Well met brother-captain Gallan. May our father Sanguinius guide our hands and favor the best." Without further ado Cassius now stands ready for combat, his stolid blue lenses seeking his foe.
