Your efforts are greatly appreciated. And having it drip fed in is actually nice - it's added suspense and made the whole thing last longer.

As for the winner, I think we all know who it is already - In fact right now he's sat in the champions throne, feet up and boots off, practicing air guitar on his power axe.

Captain (90) Bolt Pistol (Free) Iron Halo (Free) Power Axe (15) Jump Pack (15) Artificer Armour (20) 1 Reroll (15)

++BEGIN++

Zendrenael screamed into the air as Chaplain Darr’Knight shot towards him on his newly patched together bike. Zendrenael knew how tough an opponent the Knight would be, so would take no chances. His bolt pistol coughing rounds top wards the black armoured warrior, Zendrenael threw his power axe at Darr’knight, the chaplain’s eyes widening behind his skull visage helm as the energised blade whirled through the air, it’s deadly arc shearing through his arm before embedding itself in his pauldron.

The pain mingled with the smell of cooking flesh and scorched ceramite only served to fuel the chaplains rage, however, and he crashed his bike into the descending Zendrenael, knocking the captain off balance. Even with one arm down, the chaplain was still a force of nature, and things looked grim for the unarmed captain as Darr’Knight’s powerfist rained blows down upon him, each threatening to overload the ancient circuitry of his iron halo. On his back beneath the onslaught of the chaplain, Zendrenael looked up and found purchase, his arms grasping the shaft of his axe still trapped in the chaplains shoulderpad. With a primal roar, Zendrenael grabbed his weapon and activated his pack, tearing the blade free from the chaplain in a welt of blood, Darr’Knight was cowed by the pain his head descending, his helm was caught by Zendrenael’s rising knee, and his world went black.

Darr'knight regained consciousness and rose to his feet, the heavy clunk of black ceramite lethargically ascending. He removed the now dented skullen visage, an unexpected flowing golden mane instantly draped over his torn shoulders, the tips becoming stuck and caked in the red fluids that were previously inside him. He looked upon the opponent that had bested him without the slight off-red filter of his lenses for the first time.

"I see why you are captain of our prime chapter's 8th company, Zandreneal."

His voice was slurred, no doubt an effect of the healing cocktail of drugs now being pumped into his system by med servitors, as they tended to his wounded limb.

"It was a fierce bout, your speed with that executioner's weapon is what won you the day - befitting of an assault captain. You humble the Sanguine Vision with such a display."

He started to make his way to the side lines, taking place among the other spectators - a role he was now reduced to. Turning, he addressed Zandreneal once more, jokingly.

"Having beaten me I suppose you have to win this thing now! I suggest you do so quick too, so that we can muster a force to relieve my chapter master before it's too late!"

Zendrenael could not help but smile as his opponent exited the arena. Darr'Knight had shown both skill and vigour, and come closer to besting him than the Captain would normally admit. Moreover he had shown a sense of humour normally unseen in Chaplains of the Adeptus Astartes, a trait that Zendrenael could appreciate. In fact the last time he had enjoyed an encounter with a Chaplain this much was months ago when he and his battle brother Daenor had engaged in a night of endulgence that ended with the pair swapping tips on battle cries aimed at upsetting the World Eaters (and their mothers)...

But this bout was now in the past, and if the Captain of the 8th was to progress to the final of the tournament he would need to focus on his next opponent the Librarian Slantien. Truth be told Zendrenael had never had much time for books, nor those who buried their noses in them, but he had seen enough of the psyker to know that he would need to be at his best to beat his kin. This would take weeks of practice and meditation, a carefully prepared battle plan, and the blessings of the exhalted Angel himself... Or he could just slip some Titan class laxatives into his opponents sarcophagus feed line and wing it. Either or.

Lazare calmly stares at the empty arena in anticipation of another test of his might and faith..  He blinks for a moment as he realizes all Chaplains in the tournament have now been knocked out, leaving him the last bearer of the torch of zeal.  He shifts his weight slightly, and closes his eyes in prayer to the Emperor, filled with renewed determination.

++ROUND 3, FIGHT 1++

Captain Gallan: Storm Bolter, Thunderhammer, Storm Shield, Artificier Armor

Captain Lazare of the 5th Company: Terminator Armor, Iron Halo, Storm Bolter, Power Sword, 2 Re-Rolls.

++BEGIN++

Thundering into the ring Lazare took Gallan by surprise. The Lamanter, taken aback by the Blood Angels agility even in Terminator Armour, couldn’t activate his jump pack before the red armoured giant was upon him, blazing sword arcing with actinic energy leaving after images on his retina. He moved quickly, blocking the deadliest strikes with the haft of his thunder hammer, but the weapon was large and heavy, and couldn’t be everywhere at once. Gallan’s armour rang with hammer blows from Lazares sword, forcing him back, back towards the arena walls, where he would be broken by the Angel.

Not today. Gallan was fighting for his chapter, to bring honour to those who Lament. He offered an oath to the Emperor and dropped his guard, letting the hammer swing down to the side. Lazare’s blade deflected of Gallans plastron, glancing over his shoulder to impale his jump pack. The momentum of gravity on the swinging hammer was augmented by Gallan’s gene wrought strength and ceramite-sheathed muscle fibres, and he brought the hammer round in a wide arc to crush Lazare’s leg. The red armoured captain crumpled, his blade falling from his grasp.

These fights were getting harder. Gallan should prepare for the next.

Roll by Roll account

Roll for Initiative: Gallan 10, Lazare 10. Reroll Gallan 8, Lazare 11.

Lazare moves forward 6”, shoots storm bolter, 2 hits, 2 wounds, 2 saves. Rolls to charge. DOUBLE 6! Lazare charges in!

Gallan Overwatch 2 hits, 1 wound, saves.

Lazare attacks before Gallan, 4 power sword attacks, 4 hits with rerolls, 2 wounds using the last reroll, 2 saves.

Gallan attacks back, 2 hits, 2 wounds, 2 and a 6 on the invulnerable saves. Lazare is down.

Gallan Wins.

It was always going to be uphill for Lazare only having ap3 against artificer armour...and Lazare with that hammer.

I do think Lazare made a good showing of himself, stealing the charge and all. That was probably the most unlikely thing to have happened this contest so far.

Lazare retreats with a limp after briefly, but sincerely, congratulating the other contestant for a swift and deserved win.  His body aches from the punishment he endured, but his mind is finally at peace.  For the first time since the tournament began, he finds humility in defeat, and a sense of purpose beyond a wanting for offices he once coveted.  Lazare leans lightly on the huge power sword that has served him well in many combats, with the faintest hint of a smile on his face, a rarity few have been witness to.

++SEMI FINAL FIGHT 2++

Slantien: Mastery level 2 librarian in TDA with a force axe and a storm shield and 2 rerolls. Rolling on biomancy.

Captain Zedrenael of the Blood Angels 8th Company: Captain (90) Bolt Pistol (Free) Iron Halo (Free) Power Axe (15) Jump Pack (15) Artificer Armour (20) 1 Reroll (15)

++BEGIN++

Battle worn but still eager to shed blood, Zendrenael entered the ring, jump pack cycling through initiation routines, in preparation for the bout. Rolling his shoulder, he eyed his opponent approaching the ring, the heavy tread of Slantien’s terminator armour announcing his presence before he could be seen. The librarian entered the arena, the wind picking up in empathy. Something was wrong, the wind buffeting Zendrenael was not physical, but aetheric, and was tugging at his very soul, calling him to submit to Slantien’s will, collapse into darkness.

Zendrenael looked up and felt bile rise in his throat, the librarian was hard to focus on, a blurred shape at the edge of his vision, he could not focus. He needed to end this now. Roaring forwards on twin pillars of flame, he hefted his axe and charged at the librarian roaring his detestation of the witch powers.

Slantien spread his arms and tilted his head back, his mouth making no sound, but his inner voice roaring. The motion was serene to those without the gift, but those with the the gift of the second sight saw columns of witch flame erupting from around Slantien. His fellow librarians involuntarily stepped back in awe at this power that Slantien must have barely been keeping in check. The maelstrom of psychic fire grew, surrounding the librarian, making the pennants and banners in the arena flutter, then stream, the blow from the walls. Slantien opened his screaming eyes and set his baleful gaze upon Zendrenael. The Captains jump pack imploded instantly, it’s fuel cells igniting, blasting Zendrenael to the ground, on his knees.

Gritting his teeth, Zendrenael tried to stand. His armour was blacked and scorched from the detonation of his jump pack, but he would not submit. His armour servos whined in protest as he tried to rise against the pressure pushing him to the ground. He tasted blood in his mouth. Cracks spider webbed through the ancient rock of the arena floor emenating from Zendrenael’s feet.

As if in slow motion, he saw Slantien bring his axe in front of him, holding it aloft like a holy icon. A thrust forward of his arm, and Zendrenael was blasted across the arena like paper in a storm.

As he heard the crash of the captain hitting the ground, Slantien closed his third eye, shutting his senses off from the sea of souls. That was enough. He turned, and awaited his next opponent.

Roll By Roll

Roll for initiative: Slantien 7, Zendrenael 8.

Zendrenael goes first, activates jump pack and moves 12” forwards. Fires bolt pistol, hits, wounds, saved. Charges and rolls a 5, failed!

Slantien’s turn. Slantien moves 6” closer, rolls a 4 for warp charge. Casts force on a 4. Zendrenael fails to deny on 4 dice with reroll. Tries to cast enfeeble on 3 dice, passes. Tries to cast warp speed. Passes. Ouch.

Slantien rolls to charge, passes on a 9. Overwatch from Zendrenael hits, doesn’t wound. Simultaneous combat. Slantien rolls first with 6A due to charging and warp speed: 3 hits after using 2 rerolls. S6 vs T3 with axe, red thirst and enfeeble, generates 3 wounds, ignoring Zendrenaels 2+ save. 2 failed iron halo saves and Zendrenael is gone. Very gone.

Attacks back: Zendrenael 4 attacks, 1 hit, wounds on a 4 (S4 with axe and enfeeble vs T4) Saved by Slantien’s Storm Shield.

Slantien Wins.

Well it seems that the Captain of the 8th may finally have been taught a lesson in manners. Congratulations to the Victor - Well fought!

There was nothing but a haze of brown in front of his eyes as Zendrenaels world came back into focus. Disorientated it took him a moment to realise that he was face down in the dust, and not upright in a sand storm. The Captain pushed his palms against the ground and gingerly raised himself to his knees. He new instantly that his ribs had been shattered, and that the blood in his mouth his own and not his opponents. What exactly had happened, and how, was a blur in his mind... but what he was sure of was that he had just been bested by a warrior far mightier than himself.

"Well fought scholar" he spat as soon as his lungs would let him. "It seems in this case the pen may truly be mightier than the sword... or rather the tome mightier than the power axe".

With that the Captain heaved himself to his feet, turned away from his opponent, and bowed to the assembled Chapter Masters. The thought crossed his mind to flip the psyker the finger behind his back as he did so, but for the first time in his life he hesitated - Perhaps it was time for the good Captain to actually become a good Captain.
