Pyroclast91's Forge = Salamanders Primaris and Death Guard

Recommended Posts

WELCOME to my forge this is where i will compile whatever randomocity happens to be inhabiting my desk. Once upon a time many moons ago i finally decided to make that brave step from lurker to Frater, seems like it was only days ago but now i look back in the short time ive been on this site ive accomplished more in my hobby life than in the entire decade ive been working on these wonderful little pastic space men. And this is where i attempt to keep track of it all perhaps eventually i will learn how to do the fancy things some frater do where they put links in this cover page to all of there glorious projects but until then ill just have to try to remember to update this page on a semi regular basis ( note "try" and "remember") Anywho for the next seven months ill be working on my army for the Tale of Twenty Hobbiests. A project im extremely excited about as this will be my first fully painted army!!!! Now i just have to re-learn how to play once its all finished :dry.: . But im also excited because im exploring a different side of my favorite legion The Salamanders without becoming just another Red Marked Im going to write, build, convert, and paint them to show the legions darker sons those who strayed from the promethean creed for one reason or another. WARNING i never got a grade above a C in English class i make no clames at being a profesional writer in fact i know it needs a lot of work and is now the soul reason i regret not paying more attention in those afformentioned English classes keep that in mind when reading my fluff that its written around a 3rd grade level

But if you dont mind my inability to propperly punctuate and my struggles with spelling then carry on as usual or just skip to the pics whatever floats your boat.

Hello my fellow plastic and resin crack addicts. I've been trolling the pages here for quite some time. In fact it's where I've gotten a lot of my best ideas, inspiration, and techniques. What with the ETL V going on I've decided it's high time I enter the fray and start contributing to the community that's already given me so much. So on to the good part. This Year for the ETL I'm hoping to bring glory to my beloved SALAMANDERS. For my first vow I wanted to stay on the small side and not bite off more than I can chew. Since having to be an adult five days a week really gets in the way of my modeling. I'm starting with my first veteran tactical squad the only one from my BAC box that will be modeled as such. They will be known as the Helkytes a squad consisting of Istvaan survivors. They're led by a young Veteran Seargeant by the name of Daario Naharis (yes I'm a game of thrones fan as well) who is equipped with a MC power axe and a combi flamer as well as artificer armor wrought by his own hands and a volkite serpenta. Since the squad has been able to re-equip and re-supply the squad is equipped with vexilla, nuncio-vox, and two meltas, and melta bombs and supposing my math is accurate that comes out to 365 pts. Once they are completed they will be joined by the rest of my Istvaan survivors some of whom will be from the iron tenth and some will be sons of deliverance. Anywho that's enough rambling for now it's time for pictures which I will try to post regularly as progress is made any C&C is always appreciated

Looks awesome to me! Welcome to the B&C, the Horus Heresy, and the XVIIIth legion (the best one)!!! Vulkan lives. Awesome to have you, I joined the B&C this past winter and have been inspired like never before in my hobby work. Hope it does the same for you. Look forward to seeing your work come together!!

So I think it's time to put the glue and clippers down for the night the Helkytes are what I would call %85 assembled just a few more details, shoulder pads, and backpacks. Then the sculpting begins well it already sorta started on Daarios armor with the top half of a drake head that I'll probably tear off and redo about 6 times http://s33.postimg.org/b5dxa1vin/20160605_200518.jpg

And yes that is a power maul no I have no idea where I got it but I figured the marine with the "come at me bro" pose should probably have it

Daario Naharis is my Veteran sergeant for the veteran squad I'm currently building. They will be known as the Helkytes and here's my first stab at there fluff apologies in advance for my poor punctuation skills

Being ever the pragmatic sons of Vulkan upon returning to Nocturn it was decided that many of the old legions squads platoons and entire companies in some instances would have to be broken down and reformed thanks to the massive casualties the legion sustained. The few remaining veteran squads were broken down and spread throughout the legion to act as leaders for the incoming recruits. The surviving line troops were advanced to veteran status in most cases. One of these squads is the Helkytes led by a young but seasoned Astartes by the name of Daario Naharis and made up of freshly promoted veterans from throughout the legion. Every member of the Helkytes is a survivor from Istvaan and all bear the scars of betrayal like badges of honour. The Helkytes are specialists in outflanking maneuvers a skill each member perfected on the black sands of Istvaan.

Veteran sergeant Daario Naharis " The Helkyte" showed great promise from the time he was a young boy. Growing up on the Aridian plane he came from a band of nomadic traders and spent much of his youth hunting and scavenging to survive. It was during his 10th year that young Daario first caught the attention of Lord Chaplain Nomus Rhy'tan. While on a training exercise out in the canyons of the Aridian plane Rhy'tan watched as Daario protected his sisters and his mother from a gang of scavengers that had set upon there camp the Lord Chaplain was heading to intervene but by the time he crested the last hill before the camp Daario stood with the body's of two of his attackers at his feet. The third was nowhere to be seen. Rhy'tan told Daario he had great promise and that he could one day be a great warrior and that Rhy'tan wanted to teach him the way. Daario accepted under the condition his family be given a place to live in one of the seven sanctuary cities, Rhy'tan found the youths loyalty and his drive to protect the innocent inspiring and agreed to his terms. After that Daario started his new life amongst the salamanders spending what little free time he had between training helping the chapter serfs and listening to his master's sermons about the promethean creed. Daario was a fast learner and never one to back down from a challenge. He was always eager to learn from anyone who would teach him he was intrigued by the countless different styles of fighting and ways of making war, he was determined to master them all. Shortly after his induction into the scout companies Daario quickly made a name for himself not only in the field but in the practice cages where soon he was undefeated amongst the scout companies and was even beating some of the more veteran battle brothers it was in one such duel that several veteran fire drakes commented "that lad fights like a bloody helkyte" and the nickname stuck. With Daario's thirst for knowledge when his mentor Nomus Rhy'tan offered him the chance to learn from the sons of Corax he jumped at the opportunity. To Daario It was a great honour to be seconded to there brother legion one he accepted graciously. Daario learned much from his new brothers in the Raven Guard there way of making war was different from any he'd learned before, the idea of blending with the shadows and striking when your enemy is unaware of your presence fascinated him and he took too it well. After several years of campaigning with the Raven Guard the orders had come for his secondment to end so he could return to his legion with the knowledge he'd gained. The fleets of both the Raven Guard and Salamanders were to muster alongside the Iron Hands in the Istvaan system.

And finally the current incarnation of my contemptor that may also end up being re-sculpted cuz I mucked up the armor plates and I'm just not super happy with the Dragon head it looks too cartoony I think

I can't really explain how amazing this is and I would very much like to worship the ground upon which its creator walks. Anybody know who that might be I would kill for some tips from my new idol any who..... With my new found inspiration and shame in the big ugly blob of Dragon face currently inhabiting my dread I believe it's time to get back top the drawing board speaking of drawing boards maybe I should actually draw up a plan first. Any ideas? Input? Or tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated I wanna do something similar but I'm nowhere near that skilled with gs so I guess we'll see how it turns out also if anybody has any ideas for combining a shield like that^^^^^^ with a multi melta I'm trying to figure out how to go about that???

The other is going to be my take on Artellus Numeon (praetor with MC paragon blade "Draukoros" and either a combi weapon or volkite I still can't decide he'll also have the mantle and the zeroth conductor shield which should make him pretty stout on the table top)

As you can see still very in the beginning stages C&C always appreciated

I tried sculpting skulls just like that a hundred times when I was a kid, and I could never figure out what exactly I was doing wrong back then.  I stumbled across the answer years after the fact, well after I gave up trying. :P

The septum (the divider in the nasal cavity) is very, very thin, to the point that you won't really see it on such a scale.  So having the nasal cavity as two separate slits will always look a bit off.  It's more like a thin, upside-down butterfly, or a spade with a blunted tip.

If you decide to make that change, you'll probably also find that the eye sockets are suddenly unusually large and/or far apart.  It's a relativistic/proportional kinda thing.  You've basically got an extra strip of material running down the center of the face, and when you collapse it to bring the nasal cavity together, everything else has to get moved towards the center a bit for the proportions to stay intact.

@firepower- you have a very good point there I've been drawing skulls for a very long time so it's hard to get out of the habit of making those nasal cavities so pronounced I'm gonna peel it off and take a stab at it your way

What works best for you for drawing on gs without it making indentations I just finished another attempt and it's so shameful I don't think I'm even gonna post it but by damned I'll get it eventually

I didn't mean drawing on the GS, I meant just drawing on paper, to get an idea of it.

http://hyperallergic.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/facial-proportions.png

It's an old but reliable way of learning to draw faces, and applies to the skeletal structure beneath, which applies to any face related art stuff.  Yeah, guess I could've been a bit better at phrasing that sentence :pinch:

And maybe master of signal? I could really use some input on this since I actually don't have the books myself and so I'm not sure which I can /can't use or what will be most useful
