Vairocanum's Projects (9/28/2020 Dark Mechanicus Cultist)

Recommended Posts

Hey BnC, I took a break from warhammer a little over 4 years ago because of university. However school has been getting a little stressful recently so I decided to dive back into my old hobby to de-stress. For now this blog will mainly have random conversions as I can't afford to buy the new codexes, rulebooks and models till I'm done with school. But my favorite part of warhammer has always been converting so it's not a problem :biggrin.:

So here are my first models in a few years, a company champion (chapter undecided), and an tweaked version of my old true-scale chaos marine. C&C is appreciated!

Also, does anyone have good bits site recommendations if I'm located in Canada? or are there any good UK sites that aren't too expensive shipping overseas?

Ain't nothing wrong with random, codex free conversions. I like the company champion, although the flow of his body indicates he's about to chop down someone a fair bit taller than him. Nothing wrong with that; it's not like the galaxy isn't filled with tall targets, but I think it's worth bearing in mind when kitbashing "what is the model doing".

The true scale is just threatening as all hell. If the crack of the eagle was under his foot, you could imagine him just crunching it as he strides forward.

Really like the posing of the champion! The axe looks a bit to sturdy and short in my opinion. Also instead of trying to blend the parts of the shaft together (and then ending up with a wobbly shaft) you might be more successful when you cut it up and add a middle section with a smaller diameter. I never did such a thing before, but it would look better imho. Middle section of the shaft could also be build up from several short cylindrical parts hold in line by pins and connected by small blobs of greenstuff.

@Captain Mike: Thanks for the c&c! I guess I can imagine the pose as him surveying the fortress they are about to siege, maybe locking eyes with the enemy champion? But you're definitely right about the flow of the body and taller enemies. And as for the broken aquila, i originally tried cutting one up into smaller pieces but couldn't get it to look the way i wanted it to so i ended up leaving this one broken in larger pieces.

@okonomiyakimarine: Thanks, I'm glad you like it! Personally I'm a fan of "hand and a half" weapons, so they can be used dual or single handed which is why its shorter. And I originally had the whole middle shaft covered in greenstuff but it was wobbly like you said so i ended up taking it off. I'll probably re-do the middle shaft once i can get some clay shapers. Also in regards to replacing the middle shaft altogether, I rather dislike working with metal so if possible i usually try not to cut them into too many pieces, but if it doesn't go well with the clay shapers then I'll use a rod to replace the middle shaft.

@psnmario: Thanks for the input and glad to be back :happy.:

So I've decided to make a champion for each of the chaos gods, starting with a sorceror of Tzeentch. I originally got the dark angels veteran body for a librarian conversion but never ended up using it so now I've re-purposed it for chaos  C&C is appreciated!

@Andvarr A: Thanks! I never took pictures when building it but I can give a quick rundown of what I did. For the legs I only filled in the thighs and calves with greenstuff. For the arms i shaved down the top of the arm so that the shoulder pads fit closer to the torso. For the torso i used the front chestplate of a terminator and the back chestplate of a regular chaos marine. I used some plasticard in between the torso and legs to make it a little higher and filled it in with green stuff and added the cables. Then finally i used greenstuff to elongate the front and back torso. Feel free to ask questions if you want more detail on something.

So this week I finished this Champion of Slaanesh. I've always liked Adrian Smith's bare torso Slaanesh marine so I decided to give it a try myself. C&C is appreciated!

Finished the Champion of Khorne this week. I saw Damon Drescher's freeblade knight with an Oni mask while looking in Athrawes Lightning Bearer's thread and really liked the way it looked so I attempted it on a smaller scale. And I've always thought bloodcrusher like legs would be a cool mutation for Khorne and this is what I ended up with. C&C is appreciated!

Damn...i prefer to be blasted away by a plasma cannon if I can avoid meeting him on the battlefield.

Nice work

@MikhalLeNoir: Thanks! I'm glad you like him. Btw your Primarch Raktra is amazing, I'd love to try making something as imposing as he is someday.

So this week I've completed my Champion of Nurgle. Lots more detail on this guy since nurgle is what I'm more used to converting. I really wanted to give him a gas mask looking helmet and this is what i came up with. Thanks for looking and C&C is appreciated.

Thx, although he is not my primarch. I follow the light and if i create something darker in my free time so it is only a coincedence^^

The 4 togheter look ace. My fav is mr. 3 eyes. I love that helmet and am still figuring out how to come up with an explanation why a wardem of light would wear something like that

Thanks MikhalLeNoir! Haha I see, Raktra is still an awesome conversion though! And maybe you could use the helmet in a sort of special ops squad (like for night vision)? Although it might be harder to sneak around with that fantastic gold armor. :tongue.:

Those are some pretty excellent chaos champions! I am especially fond of the Khornate guy -- no surprise there...

Thanks KrautScientist! I'm glad the champion gets a stamp of approval from a favored of Khorne like you :biggrin.:

Really nice conversions there, buddy - especially considering that you've been out of the hobby for 4 years. Keep it up!

Thanks Augustus b'Raass! I think now I'm more patient and more willing to rip apart a model and rebuild it if i don't think its done right. Your true-scale night lords squad is actually one of the things I saw that made me want to get back into the hobby. :smile.:

Finished this Iron Father this week. I've always wanted to use the techpriest enginseers legs in a space marines conversion but only just got around to it. I've also made a "Gundam Marine" for fun. I've been wanting to make this ever since the plastic grey knights were released, as i've always thought the back pack looked like beam sabers. C&C is appreciated.

Was digging through some old sprues and found some deathwatch shoulder pads I had forgotten about. Only found 9 shoulder pads, so I guess I'll try and get a terminator for the last member. Probably will convert some deathwatch every now and then instead of knocking out the whole 10 man squad in succession. Here is the first member of the deathwatch kill team (the mold line on the pistol is gone now, just didn't retake the picture). C&C is appreciated!

I recently re-built an old model that I had made a few years ago. It started out as a Vampire Lord Krell model (I believe the model is just known as a wight king now), but after seeing it again I decided i wanted to make some extensive changes. Originally the model was just Krell with chaos marine arms and greenstuffed power armor legs. But I had made the legs too thin for a marine and the arms were posed sort of unnaturally so I took apart most of the model and left only the head and body. My friend was nice enough to supply me with the plastic raptor legs in exchange for some coffee. This is what I ended up with, C&C is appreciated.

Very nice! He definitely reads as a Night Lord! I do think the (model's) left foot does look pretty precariously balanced atop that fallen Marine, though, due to the way the feet are attached to the Raptor legs. I think I'd either reattach the foot at a slightly more solid looking angle or give the champ a jump pack, so he looks like he's just landing on his fallen prey.

Thanks for the suggestions! I originally wanted to give him one of those old raptor jump packs with the arched vents but none of my friends had one and I couldn't find any online. I couldn't figure out how to convert a regular marine jump pack to have the arched vents so I converted a sanguinary guard jump pack to look more chaos but didn't like the way it looked on this model. I ended up settling for the converted backpack on the left, at least until I can get my hands on one of the old jump packs.

He looks perfectly sociopathic enough to be a son of Kurze :smile.:

*cough* remember to drill the gun barrel *cough*

Thanks a lot! Thanks for the reminder on the gun barrel, unfortunately I have my pin vise but don't know where the extra drill bits are so I can't drill it yet. Also I might have to borrow some of your brilliant ideas for a nurgle character project I plan on doing in the future

I liked the jump pack I made originally for the Night Lords Champion so much that I made an entire model so I could use the jump pack :tongue.:. I felt regular sized lightning claws would look too bulky so I converted a smaller pair for this Chaos Raptor Lord and I'm pretty happy with how the whole model turned out. I tried to pose him as he prepared to rush towards his next prey (legs are hard to pose :wacko.:). C&C is appreciated
