My Inquistitional Strike 77th Strike Force assaulted a heretical force of Imperial Fists led by Captains Genericus(chapter master warlord with the eye from Vigilus) and Lysander who landed to capture a relic important to the Inquisition. Scouting forces in a pair of Tauroxes moved up while Lord Commissar Uselessa got out to observe the field for command and control(he started in cover on the home objective.

--We played open war from end to end with the center 24" open. Objectives were center and one on each end and owning one the previous turn made it worth 3 vp, not that it matters since as a twist we pulled the comet/VIP ejection pod card where on turn 3 a new objective appears either in the center or in the center of a quarter and holding it on turn 5 equals an auto win. We allowed the Fist player to use the new abilities of the IF except the strats. Wow this was an eye opening game for how nasty IF can be. He also used the Seige Cohort which we aren't sure is still a legal formation since apparently you can get 2 relics that turn characters into LTs. --

The Avenger swept over the scouting teams engaging Eliminators hiding in ruins while VTOL aircraft pulled over the ridge and with a whoosh of rocket pods and brrrrrrt! of gatling cannons the advance eliminator squads of the heretical Imperial Fists disappeared in a red splash on the walls of the ruins they took cover in. ---I moved just enough to get the two eliminator squads in the center of the board into range and opened fire with everything.

From across the long ruined outpost, the sound of a storm of bolter fire rang out, tracers like lasers screamed up at the swift moving Avenger shredding it in a ball of fire--6 dakka centurions backed up by a captain chapter master with the eye buffed by a chaplain with the  exploding 6s, +1 to hit hitting the plane on 3s rerolling misses, mortally wounding on 5+s and wounding on 4s rerolling 1s oh and +1 damage per wound that gets through . Yeah the avenger didn't last long despite making an impressive number of saves. -- Further fire from a twin heavy bolter contemptor destroyed one of the forward Tauroxes killing one of the scions inside and a barely in range contemptor. inflicted 11 wounds on a vulture. Meanwhile a thunderfire killed 3 scions from the squad that emergency disembarked from the Taurox.

The strike force felt it had a bead on the enemy and pushed the throttle forward, everything moving up at max or almost maximum velocity. The scions did a grav chute insertion dropping all the embarked squads off in close range of the enemy with a full scion squad loaded to bear with plasma with an officer behind his castle. (in retrospect I should have split them into two 5 man two plasma squads. Unfortunately the squad landing behind the central castle of the enemy drifted too close and the yellow marines shot them as the drifted down wiping the entire squad. The lieutenant  managed to scramble into cover out of sight from the twin contemptors and 6 dakka centurions.  The western Valkyrie's door gunners  spotted the thunderfire cannon and waved the gunship over and laced the position with fire leaving a red armored techmarine lying face down in the dirt. Orders were yelled by the officers and the two weapons squads(command squads) leveled their melta guns at a nearby squad of Aggressors killing 5 of the 6, the last one feeling like discretion was the better part of valor and running away.

On the otherside of the field two scion squads loaded up with plasmaguns unloaded into the centurions killing 3 with ease. A further centurion fell to assorted fire from the two vultures and taurox. The grenade launcher toting scion squad killed two of the bolter wielding scouts hiding in ruins in almost the center of the field.

The counter strike by the Imperial fists was as nasty as could be expected. The Centurions and contemptors rained fire on the unprotected scions killing all the plasma scions leaving their LT standing in the open while on the other side, one melta gunner squad was scoured off the field while the other was left with one guy and his captain. Meanwhile the undamaged vulture was knocked out of the sky by krak and flak missiles and the damaged one was plinked to death by a terminator squad that landed in a really bad location. Lysander himself appeared not far from the Taurox and tried to charge but a well aimed volley from the vehicle kept him suppressed and out of close combat.

Then out of the sky a ball of fire crashed near the scion's commissar. "ALL UNITS, THIS IS DRAGON SIX, FRAGO! A LIFE POD FROM THE WARSPITE HOLDING ADMIRAL KASPEROV HAS LANDED IN YOUR AO! ABANDON CURRENT MISSION AND RECOVER THE POD AT ALL COSTS!"

From a passing Valkyrie flying above the field in support another scion squad dropped from the sky onto the roof of a building near the downed pod and its plasma guns took up positions to fire at Lysander. The scions squad with grenade launchers fell back towards the new objective and got Lysander in their sights. The captain fell back inside a building out of sight out of any Imperial Fist gunners and his remaining melta gunner tried to keep up. The LT from earlier sprinted to the Valkyrie and barely made it in the door as it lifted off and still in hover mode moved as fast as it could to try and reach safety and pick up survivors. The far corner Valkyrie flew across the board to do a strafing run on Lysander.  All the preparation was for naught as the grenadiers opened fire on Lysander and multiple krak grenades penetrated the captains ancient terminator exploding in the soft gooey insides. (whoever said grenade launcher scions were useless obviously never used them). With the yellow captain killed the Valkyries opened fire on the scouts and terminators killing two of each.

The return fire from the Fists was as bad as expected and both Valkyries were shot from the sky but it was all over as the scion squad inside the taurox jumped out and grabbed the survivors and other gunships quickly landed to recover the remaining storm troopers.

--the fists had no way of getting across the board to get to the point. I was actually ahead on regular points at that time as well although that would change if the game continued. I had lost all of my major firepower having only 6 guys from the grenade squad, a ten man volleygun squad and a 5 man plasma squad. plus all 4 HQs and a melta gunner. He had two twin heavy bolter contemptors, 3 cataphractii terminators, 2 dakka centurions, a chaptermaster, chaplain, and a 5 man tac squad on his objective. I would have had line breaker.

The new Imperial Fists are no joke. They can spam the cheapest ranged weapon marines have and be devastating with them and have more numbers than other marine armies. Shooting at vehicles each contemptor had 12 strength 5 heavy bolters at -2 ap and 2 damage, plus cyclone missiles for an additional 2 str8 -3 AP  d6+1 damage. Even scouts can put out decent damage. Range is their biggest weakness but still. The 6 centurions in siege cohort with normal support will take out a knight very easily.

My Squat army got a proxy Primarch (Roboute Guilliman), converted from an Orruk Megaboss :) .

My Squat army has basic troops and equipment from the Astra Millitarum codex with an allied contingent of high echelon leaders and specialists from the Space Marine codex... and I felt that a Primarch would be cool... and the rule of cool wins :) .

Seeing as it's not (strictly) Astra Millitarum, here's a link, rather than an image:

Today I started kitbashing left over Cadian bits with my Bretonnians to start a regiment of Feudal World 'Not Krieg' Guardsmen, to keep me going until I get the start of my WWII themed Cadian army later on this week.

Oh I managed to slice my hand open as well :tu: God I love converting

Are those turrets, or hulls?

It's the full tank... like a STUG but with crew capacity :) .

The basic Taurox doesn't have to have a turret and, instead, can mount the auto-cannons at the rear of the hull, in a fixed position (shooting directly across the doorways).

Here's an earlier image (before some of the details were added):

Well got my butt beat at a local GT this weekend

Opponents were good value though, met some new people and had some fun games

I also won a set of Warcry, which as fun as it looks I'm likely never to play. So instead of going through the effort to sell it I managed to exachange for some Aeronautica Imperialis minis :D

Took some pics will post at some point...

Slowly cleaning up my cadians I had stripped. I really feel like I need to apologize to my early opponents. Oh the mold lines and leftover flash that I just painted right over, its criminal.

We did requisition 6 armored containers and assorted barrels and crates that come with them. Fun fact a deathstrike missile will fit in an armored container.

Today my Armageddon 234th Mechanised secured a great victory against a very strong Tau force. The enemy army consisted of 3 massive and unholy warmachines, designated Riptides by the Cog boys, 3 smaller battle suit commanders and a swarm of flying discs known as drones.

The battle was extreamly bloody, but xenos tech could contend not with venerable Leman Russes. Yarrick himself slew an enemy commander in melee, ripping open the armour with his power klaw and burning out the cowardly xenos inside with one look from his bale eye.

My Imperial Guard have won two victories over the Tau in as many weeks, and I am eager to get a third!

I started the process of painting my newly stripped guard force from back in 4th.

Would like some community input on the colour scheme. I want grey fatigues with tan armour as the base. The parts I’m undecided on are the webbing and weapon,

I’m currently leaning towards a light brown leather for the webbing, but may also paint one up in a drab green as well to see how it looks.

For the weapon, I want it to draw the eye without being garish and still keep a sense of tactical realism. My thoughts so far have been either, Tan, Drab/Standard Cadian Green, Tan/Grey Camo, Red (either a dark Khorne type red or a bright blood angles red) or the most outlandish black with bright blue highlights.

I plan to paint up a sample for each one but would still like everyone’s opinion on what they think works, might work, has worked.

If I can work out a way to add photos from my phone il add some of what I have so far.

4th Ed models so are we talking metal or plastic cadians?

Scheme sounds good the tan for the serving should go well

Personally I'm a fan of black or red rifles :D

There's also the painter tool you van use on B&C too. Just goto the painter link in the header.

Can we expect your own wip thread shortly?

As for posting pics this link might help

I have a metal command squad but the rest is plastic, I also have a new start collecting box from last Christmas that I have built, and the apocalypse box set, plus an extra heavy weapons team or two, and another command squad. The apocalypse box is still sat un built but it’s on the to do list haha.

I’ve used the tool but there’s no weapon in the image just the guardsman so it doesn’t help my problem...

I’ve never been very good at WIP threads, my last one I did for my car I left neglected. But I may give it another try.

I’ve tried the gallery but all the pictures from my phone are too big. So il have to wait until I’m at work and can use my laptop.

You'll likely have the same problem with the image size being too big on the pc too

Image sizes are limited to 2mb each on B&C (quicker to load and no reason for images to be any larger for a screen). Most smartphones these days take pictures at least that size.

Best way to deal with it is to down load an image resizer app. That's what I use and generally make my pictures max 1024 wide if not 800.

Feel free to PM me with any other questions :tu:

Hopefully this should work. So this is the basic uniform scheme I’m going for, I still need to shade the armour but once I’ve picked the weapon colour il sort that. 3rd picture the light isn’t that great but all the metal work is base coloured, And the stock and boots are base blacked.

Now I’ve figured this out il paint up the rest of the test pieces and you guys can see what they look like and give your opinions.

Need to come up with a colour for the helmet, chest and weapon icons too.

It's a good colour scheme, and will lend itself well to tanks too if you wish :tu: For the icons I reckon white would work nicely, break the colours up a bit :) Weapon could be black (almost always a good fit) or taking the tan. Alternatively it's a good spot for a third colour if you feel like it.

Yeah I think a grey and tan camo pattern on the tanks will look ace. I have 1 trooper painted up with a tan lasgun already and it looks pretty good, I’m just wondering of a way to make it stand out a bit more and I would like a spot colour of some sort to break it up a bit. Which is why I was thinking of red or green, maybe a black with some bright blue highlights. But I don’t want it to break the “tactical realism” Edited by Squike

So painted up a group of test pieces, highlighting and washes aren’t done but it gives you an idea of the scheme.

Which one do you think works the best? I really like the black and blue but know that it doesn’t work at all for this guard scheme/feel, and if I want that I need to start my self some necrons or tau haha.

The current non highlighted weapon colours would get some appropriate highlights eventually.

I know my current preferences but am looking for you honest feedback as to what works and looks convincing, and would also work for other guard weaponry/equipment, (heavy weapons, box, grenades launchers and such.)
